Friday Photo: Big Cat Nap
What is it about an afternoon nap that feels so luxurious? The lioness in this picture, sent to us by Liz Griffith of Falls Church, looks so relaxed, with her legs dangling from the tree branch, that we couldn't resist choosing it for this week's Friday Photo. Plus, Griffith's explanation makes for a nice plug for our annual photo contest (details below). Here's what Griffith writes about this photo:

"Last year's Washington Post Travel Photo contest included a picture of a lion in a tree in Tanzania. The look on the lion's face and his rotund belly made him look like the wizard of Oz lion and I have had the picture at the desk every since. This year in May my husband and I took a trip to Tanzania and my one dream was to see my own lion in a tree. To my great delight on the third day of our Safari in the Seronera section of the Serengeti National Park we spotted our first (there would be two more in the coming days) lion in a tree. Unlike the picture in The Post, my lion was a lioness and while she didn't look quite so "full," she certainly looked content. My dream had come true!"
Now it's your turn. Some guidelines for our Friday Photo contest:
1. Email ONE photo per week to us travel@washpost.com. Put "Friday Photo" in the subject field, and include your name, address and phone number.
2. Write a paragraph like the one above explaining what's going on in the picture, when you took it and why it's significant to you.
3. Photos should be from a recent trip, voyage, getaway . . whatever you want to call it. But try to keep it within the last month or two or three.
4. Winners will receive a Travel totebag; allow four to six weeks for delivery. Winning entries are subject to editing. Employees of The Post and their immediate families are not eligible. No purchase necessary.
To enter Travel's Ninth Annual Photo Contest, send us your photos by July 25, and follow these rules:
