Friday Photo: Beach Blanket Bird

Sometimes the beach is just the beach... Except when someone brings their pet bird to the shore with them. Today's Friday Photo winner, Meralis Plaza-Toledo, snapped this photo on a visit to Puerto Rico this summer. She writes:

"I took this picture at the end of August on a beach in the southwest corner of Puerto Rico. My visit to the island was a short one to visit a relative who was sick, but going to Puerto Rico without visiting the beach is simply sad. I don't need to submerge in the quiet waters, I just need to stay under a palm tree and see the beautiful horizon and enjoy all the contrasts: the sky, the water, the people the sounds...

"While I was doing that I took this picture. The boy was in the water with his brother and as soon as he noticed the guy with the macaw, the boy came out of the water (see the water drops) captivated by the colorful bird. I guess we are more used to bringing other pets to the beach.

"Now that I no longer live in Puerto Rico I really missed my Island and its unique culture and I think this picture portray that uniqueness of Puerto Rico, a tropical paradise."

Now it's your turn. Have a photo you'd like to share? Here's how:
