It Came From the Chat: Honeymoons

On yesterday's Travel Chat, we had many more questions than usual about honeymoon destinations, from Aruba to Spain. Here are some tips readers doled out to the soon-to-be-wed:
Silver Spring MD: For the potential honeymoon in Aruba -- the Renaissance hotel has a private beach that is fabulous. A small boat drives into the lobby of the hotel (!) and takes you out. One side is adults only, the other side is kid-friendly and has a restaurant. There is a constant breeze, and the beach is populated with flamingos. You can even get a massage out at the end of the dock, overlooking the water!
Off the beaten path, Puerto Rico: Several years ago I was on a field trip to Puerto Rico. I don't know who found this place or how, but we stayed in this FANTASTIC little beach-access inn. I'm calling it an inn for lack of a better word -- really a collection of homes and apartments, each decorated differently and with different accommodations, right on the water on the dry side of the island (near Guanica). It was called Mary Lee's by the Sea and to me would be the perfect place for a very casual, informal wedding or a super relaxing honeymoon. They had kayaks and snorkeling gear and access to a small mangrove island, so there was lots of outdoorsy stuff to do. My favorite stop in a trip that took us all over the island, from fancy resorts to little bed-and-breakfasts.
Fairfax, VA: Belize honeymooners -- go to the BEACH!!!!! The jungle lodges in Belize, from what I experienced, are REALLY rustic, and the road system across the country is rather tortuous (in the mountains) and many smaller roads are unpaved. Our ecotours averaged a 1.5 drive on BUMPY roads each way -- not how I would want to spend large portions of my honeymoon!
Spanish wedding: The Spanish wedding couple might look at the parador system, which is the government-owned hotels. They're generally restored historic buildings (castles, convents, etc.), and are really cool!
Anyone have other honeymoon tips?

My new hubby and I are taking a delayed honeymoon in mid May. We had wanted to go to Italy, but the airfare is so expensive. Is there somewhere cheaper we could go that's still in Europe?
He likes art, I like ruins and churches. We both love food.

For the more adventurous couple, my husband and I hitchhiked our way through the former Yugoslavia and down to Greece and Turkey. The trip was amazing and allowed us to sink in to the various cultures of the countries we visited. If thumbing it isn't your thing, however, I would highly recommend Turkey: affordable, hospitable and offers just about everything you are looking for from history to luxury to culture.
