Sobbin' Women

Everyone weeps buckets during chicks' night in "American Idol" Dedication Week.

Haley Scarnato tears up when judge Simon Cowell says she's vulnerable after singing "Queen of the Night."

Gina Glocksen gets weepy in her I Love My Boyfriend tape -- something about being rejected last year but her boyfriend made her audition this year.

Alaina Alexander's mom cries when she hears her daughter dedicate her song, "I'm not Ready to Make Nice," to her. Then Alaina appears on the verge of tears when judge Randy Jackson calls her performance "a mess," Paula Abdul calls it pitchy, and Simon says it's like Randy trying to run a one hundred meter race -- "in the middle you lost it."

Jordin Sparks starts crying, listening to herself in a taped bit in which she dedicates her song to her little brother. Her dad, in the audience, bawls too.

"I think the dedications are probably getting to you," Simon tells Jordin.

They're getting to me too -- in a sickening, soppy way.

And yet, Dedication Week has not been without its happy moments. Like when Antonella Barba drives Simon to near tears, saying she'll listen to Paula's more positive review of her thin performance because "Simon was wrong about Jennifer Hudson."

"We put Jennifer Hudson" on "American Idol!" Simon protests, meaning the three judges.

"The American audience voted her out! I didn't kick Jennifer Hudson out!" he continues, in a bit of a panic.

"If the audience disagrees with me about you, you'll be here next week."
