Flatbed Funny

ABC's new "Carpoolers" is a comedy about a group of guys who carpool to work. Naturally the actors are going to spend a certain amount of time in a car in this series. And one TV critic wondered whether they would have to "do a lot more with your face because you can't really act with your body" during scenes in which they were confined to car seats.

Jerry O'Connell -- one of the "Carpoolers" -- explained to critics the basics of shooting scenes inside cars: "Usually what happens... is you get on a flatbed truck and the cameras are outside the truck and usually the director has a walkie-talkie and they're like, 'Alright, we're going to do the same scene again, but do it...' and they give you directions through the walkie-talkie."

But O'Connell said he learned when he took the job that car scenes would instead be shot using green screens because he was told by executive producers Anthony and Joe Russo, "Nobody can be funny on a flatbed truck."

"And they were right," O'Connell added.

sorry, missed your online chat today - someone asked about Purple Legal Pads - those are, of course, Husky colors, so you can get them from the UW Bookstore or thru UW Alumni here in Seattle.

Go Dawgs!

As to the 10 pounds - the sad thing for me is, when I meet the TV actors and actresses in person, the ones that look curvy on TV are bone thin, and the ones who look thin are so emaciated I worry about them breaking if a gust of wind comes by.

why would anyone want to watch a show about carpooling?

Now, a group that takes the monorail to work, I could see that ...

Verno was much funnier when he was fat. Sincerely.

To Will: You just think the monorail concept's funny because you think it would continually get stuck mid-trip, just like it does in the Jet City. The Viaduct or nothing!

And, way off the subject: Thank God Ryan Seacrest and celebutards will adorn the Super Bowl -- I couldn't imagine how else the world's greatest sporting event would draw viewers. I wonder what megastars like Zach Braff and Carrie Underwood have to say about this year's winners, the New England Patriots!
