Sarah Palin tries to lure Bristol's huge 'DWTS' audience to her far less popular TLC reality series

By Lisa de Moraes

[This blog post has been updated]

Sarah Palin hopes to lure her daughter Bristol's 20 million viewers to her own, far less popular, reality TV series this coming Sunday:

"Ah yes...Bristol-the-diva! Silly critics! See her diva-ish-ness Sunday,'Sarah Palin's Alaska' 2 learn truth, before assuming. Thanks & enjoy!" Sarah Palin tweeted Thursday afternoon.

While Sarah Palin's new TLC reality series attracted TLC's biggest series-debut audience ever, that amounted to only 5 million viewers -- a tiny crowd compared to the 20-million-ish who have been watching this season of ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" on which her daughter has made it all the way to the finals. Because, no matter what people might say about cable TV taking over the universe, there' s still nothing like a broadcast network for reaching a gigantic number of people.

Meanwhile, the executive producer of "Dancing With the Stars" has emphatically denied that it's possible for someone to cast more than the allotted number of votes for any particular dance team by creating bogus e-mail accounts.

Chatter about the credibility of the "Dancing" voting system grew very loud this week when commenters on conservative Web sites claimed they had been able to cast up to 300 votes for daughter-of-famous-politician Bristol Palin using fake e-mail addresses.

Tuesday night, show host Tom Bergeron announced that pop singer Brandy Norwood, one of the season's strongest performers, got the hook while Bristol survived to the final round of competition next week.

Brandy had received more points from the judges last week, while Bristol once again had wound up with the fewest points from the judges, as she had the past several weeks. This meant that, once again, public voting for Sarah Palin's daughter had kept her in the competition.

And here's are clips from the upcoming episode of "Sarah Palin's Alaska":

This whole thing is dizzying.

Voting 300 times?

Well, that's how the Conservatives are. Anything others do is a sin, anything they do is a direct communication with God.

It is not lying or cheating that is bad. It is lying and cheating without strong conviction that is bad.

Be vigilant for voter fraud if Sarah Palin decides to give up the Cash Cow and run for presidency.

If this digital mullet wrapper put as much space into critiquing Obozzo and his non stop sting of f-ups as they do analyzing some kid dancing on TV, they would actually be doing something worthwhile.

Oh but that's right, her last name happens to be Palin so let's do everything humanly possible to smear her.

Wow! Two articles about the Palin family on the front page of the Post website!

What a pathetic rag this is. The last issue before it goes out of business will have a picture of Lady Sarah on the front page.

She's more fun to look at than Alice Rivlin, Hillary Clinton, or Lisa Murkowski, that's for sure. At least she washes her hair before she gets her picture taken.

so, if this is true, what this producer is saying, then how did brandy get off, and bristol is still on? he needs to check his shows, and the judges scores before saying anything. its obviously people texting. this is why you do not put a politician or someone related to a politician on an entertainment show. all your going to have is democrats or republicans who dont care how good or bad their doing in the show, but since their in the party, their going to win.

How "nice" of Mean Girl de Moraes to give the show's point of view AFTER she herself claimed that there was cheating -- without ANY EVIDENCE at all.

Is there no end to this bee-yitch's hatred of Bristol? She needs to see a shrink about her issues.

The ABC producer is being dishonest. You can vote using a bogus email address. Palin fans are creating multiple accounts and voting for Palin.

If you can vote with bogus email addresses, then why don't the supporters of Jennifer Gray or Kyle do it?

The same people who are complaining about this are the same ones who call in hundreds of times on American Idol for their FAVORITE "singer".

The hosts tell you to vote for your favorite, not necessarily the best dancer of that show.

This is an entertainment show. There is really nothing entertaining about watching someone clomp around the floor, calling it dancing, and then have them persevere over others who are honestly dancing. If you will notice the last few weeks she has had on long dresses which hide her footwork. The picture that is being shown this week of her holding up the skirt on both sides with her legs showing--no way has this ever happened in her dancing (clomping). If she tried to hold up her skirt and dance at the same time, she'd fall flat on her face. Kyle on the other hand has danced his heart out and entertained everyone every minute he is on the floor. He's what the show is about and he is the one who should win. However, you can't get through to vote for him.

She is really not a great dancer. Better yes, but her partner has to haul her around the floor most every dance. I do not think anyone else has a chance of winning, but they will all remember how much fun they had. And just seeing Jennifer dance again, and Kyle's smile has been worth watching this show. I don't usually watch it, and I never vote. So whatever...

C'mon people. Everyone knows the people voting for Bristol are really voting to support $arah. They probably don't even watch the show. They just vote the way the Tea Party tells them to vote.

Posted by: lddoyle2002 | November 19, 2010 2:42 PM | Report abuse

Some questions: What are ABC's official rules/guidelines on who they decide a "star" is. Or are there any guidelines? Is it fair to legitimate "stars" to have a Bristol Palin even start the show if she isn't "star" material? I have the entire transcript of Bristol/Willow's homophobic rant as it was on Facebook. I wonder why Facebook doesn't censure these two girls and I wonder why "Dancing with the Stars" isn't telling Bristol she is off the show as of now. Surely she signed a contract with DWTS and it must include some kind of moral/ethical requirements. I thought bullying and homophobic sneers and comments can be illegal. Why isn't California looking into this? People in other places go to jail for this behavior.

Posted by: Lilarose | November 19, 2010 2:56 PM | Report abuse

I don't watch it - only did once for one season and lo that was enough. Nevertheless, the credibility of the show tanked before it began when they brought in Palin as a "star". Getting knocked up as a teen is now "star" material? Sadly, this ABC/Disney venture is helping to screw it all up along with MTV's wreck "Teen Mom". The world's wrapped up in a bow going underground...

Why is Dancing with the Stars lying about this? Why don't they try it and see instead saying it isn't possible? Last week before the voting, the bloggers were all telling others how to get additional votes for Bristol by voting on the internet. I tried it just to see--and got Bristol 30 extra votes in less than 10 minutes. If I could do it--anyone can.

One poster asked why voters for the other contestants weren't doing it if it was so easy? Basically because it is dishonest and unethical. Palin voters and supporters are told how to do it and the address and hours for voting. It would be impossible for Bristol and Sarah not to know that this is going on. Just go to the websites that discuss voting for Bristol. It is encouraged by their Facebook and Twitter accounts and by the Palin supporters (ie Bruce family in Wasilla.) Just like Sarah would say there is no ethical question with her using Bristol's Dancing with the Stars fans and telling them to watch her own show to increase her low ratings. Or like Bristol saying the night of the voting that Brandy and Maks didn't like her--kinds of encouraging the voters not to vote for them. These Palins and all their publicity agents know exactly what they are doing--don't believe that Bristol and Willow didn't know that their Facebook homophobic comments would be made public. Apologies don't erase their hatred.

The issue here is the Producer's and voter's integrity.
When a person named DuJan who encourages others to cheat all night by voting for the cause of the party...then that is fraud while the producer claims that the other parties can do it to, then this is the shame of America.
This is corrupted characters that are part of the society now.
So in conclusion if this is the same people that flocks to Sarah Palin and she instigates this to gain power, then this is the kind of character who wants to run the country.
For the professional dancer, Mark Ballas...do you really get excited knowing that there is fraud, are you that desperate to get another trophy?
Improved dancer, yes...but to win because some people can use fake emails? What other things have they then faked? DWTS should no longer continue with their show.
This show is tainted and corrupted because of politics.
Let us see who is the bigger person who bows out?
Opportunity is good but now by fraud, lie or dishonesty such as DuJan who is not bothered by her corruption... her way of life is cheating and that is all that matters with this kind of characters.
They can party with dishonesty. I hope she is not raising children who will go on the way they were raised.

http://www.stltoday.com/entertainment/article_a9dabd72-f371-11df-8052-00127992bc8b.html

"In an interview with the Associated Press, "Dancing" executive producer Conrad Green acknowledged that using fake e-mails was possible, but he said security checks are in place to detect abnormal activity.

Still, he doubted many people were doing it - and said that, anyway, fans of any dancer could do the same. "I don't think there's any reason to believe our voting system is unfair," Green said after Tuesday's show. "If someone really wants to sign up for a million e-mail addresses ... well, so be it. But they could be doing that for Jennifer, they could be doing that for Kyle, they could be doing that for anyone."

I've been watching DWTS since it started, and there have ALWAYS been people who stayed on the show longer than their dancing should take them and people who have been voted off prematurely. Does anybody think that the winner Emmit Smith, who is a good dancer, was better than Mario Lopez? Should Marie Osmond have come in third? Should Donny Osmond have won?
Bristol Palin is unique in that she has never danced OR performed publicly, making her the first real amateur on the show. Her dancing has improved to the point where she scored "9's" last week, which is very good.
So get over it! I've been splitting my votes between Jennifer and Bristol, but since people are continuing to be so mean to anybody named Palin, I think I'll give her all my votes, regardless of how she dances.

Think about it. The Barbi who bailed on her governorship and claims to be a mama grizzly and opted for TV money over/with politics now wants her daughter's fans to vote her into the second most powerful office* on the planet.

* Note: President of the United States was the most powerful person in the world until the Republican Party began a campaign in 1981 to export every job they could find to Asia, including the most powerful one. Now that our economy is second tier and falling fast the GOP has decided to accelerate the process.

Find something to do that might just improve your mind and turn off the flipping TV.........read a book, you might learn something besides how to bash everything in sight!

It's all about money and power and this dangerous demagogue who consists of sound-bites without sense and rhetoric without reason is making millions. Sheep are blindly following a pied piper and grifter who is laughing all the way to the bank.

America, can you hear the laughter -- it's not just Palin laughing -- it's the entire world laughing at America.

If this is what America has come to, we are surely doomed.

God help us all.

So much hatred! Bristol is the MOST Improved non-dancer. Let's leave it at that. Stop injecting politics, Sarah, Tea Party, cheating, etc. People always bring up cheating when they don't like someone who has moved up, like at DWTS or American Idol. I don't see a lot of hatred in some other shows like, SYTYCD. These people even threaten to NOT watch the show anymore. Go ahead & change the channel! Actually the producers of these shows are smiling when controversies and blogs give their show more free plug! How do you know that those saying they voted 300 times are Not Bristol haters? I can just throw in false accusations about Bristol and people who hate her will take it as TRUTH!

Dancing With The Stars, until this season, has always been my favorite show. I watched the first show this season, and when I saw Bristol Palin was one of the "Stars", totally lost interest. I did not watch another show since then, and from what this article states, it has all been rigged.... by the Tea Partiers. I am so glad I did not waste my time watching, and promise that I will NEVER watch again!

It is true that I am just sick to death of Sarah Palin, but to see that the show chose someone who isn't even close to being a "star", but someone who gained fame through her MOTHER, then because she had sex before marriage and got pregnant and had a child! I could not forget how she and Sarah Palin tried to literally cover up that baby-bump during the election process!

Bristol AND her Mother are total frauds, and I am afraid that just as in the DWTS show, crazy, uninformed people will vote for a person, Sarah Palin, who is TOTALLY incompetent and stupid, to become our president. They just have this "I'll show YOU" attitude, and plan on rigging the election should Palin run, just as they did on DWTS.

DWTS has allowed itself to become political.

The Palin Family: Todd, Tweet, Track, Tripp, Trigg, Twit, Twerp, Thick and Twig.

You figure it out! There were two other fitting "T" names that I thought of but didn't dare type them in!

I see this liberal skank Moraes just can't hold back her bile... I guess when you are a liberal, it is a genetic thing - no amount of medication can help.

Liberals... weren't they the ones who told all of us for all of these years how accepting, open-minded and loving of all people they were - "it takes a village" - wasn't that the propaganda we were fed for decades?

Now we see them stripped of that propaganda and lo and behold... the liberals are the real haters, the racists and race baiters, the violent ones in our society. They have no tolerance for anyone who does not kiss their liberal mantra. And what do we get? We get hate... mindless, unending hate. Every day another liberal hater emerges. Its like maggots multiplying.

Moraes, thank you for being just one more liberal hater now exposed to all of America. I can see you now, bent over, nose uplifted and sniffing, as you join in the liberal (or should I say, Progressive) circle butt kissing.

Never in my life have I seen such hate-filled people as you journolistas and your followers, gosh, it's like you all are pigs wallowing in hate. I feel sorry for you, you must have no worth at all to your life.

I find fault with the Dancing with the Stars management for inviting Bristol to be on the show the first place....after all, let's remember that this is Dancing with the Stars, and you are not a star if your only claim to fame is being someone's daughter. I don't buy the "trying so hard" or "come so far" accolades - everyone is trying hard and everyone that's made it to the final rounds has come so far. I've been a huge fan of Dancing with the Stars, but probably won't watch again, especially if Bristol takes home the mirror ball. The playing field was level when it was stars competing against stars - this season has veered off into something else with a political edge in difficult times. Too bad.

This article is asinine. S Plain's reality show set some of the highest ratings ever for a cable / reality show. Compare apples to apples dofus. You would call her a loser even if she rated higher than the final MASH episode. The reaching that goes on by the left lib media to take shots at Palin is amazing.

Wow, such haters; never seen anything like it.

And for all those so shocked that Bristol had sex outside of marriage, how do you think the editor of the WashPost Religion section got HER job and HER husband?

FGs, grow up.

Palins Alaska had over 5 Million viewers. Its a huge hit so its not suffering in any way. As far as " luring" people to her show thats just common sense business. Dancing with the STARS walked us through backstage to lure us to Skating with the Stars. Its business. Just business. This author needs to find another industry to write about.
