Feder's Fund-Raising Prowess
Judy Feder, a Democrat who raised more than $1.5 million in her race to unseat U.S. Rep. Frank R. Wolf (R-Va.) last year, has already raised a whopping $335,000 for her rematch in November 2008, her campaign has announced.
It's an impressive sum for so early in the game, but it's obviously no guarantee. Feder, dean of Georgetown University's Public Policy Institute, lost solidly to Wolf last year.
The 14-term incumbent, who has a loyal constituency in the 10th District-- a Republican-leaning district that includes parts of Loudoun, Prince William and Fairfax counties -- not only got 57 percent of the vote. He also held on to his position despite his support for President Bush and the war in Iraq, and a national mood that favored Democrats.
Feder is banking that she will be able to leverage her newfound name recognition and ride the tide of anger against Republicans to victory next fall, in an election that will coincide with the presidential election.
