Tom and Jeannemarie go to Big Apple

Anita Kumar

After state Sen. Jeannemarie Devolites Davis lost her election and after U.S. Rep. Tom Davis decided against running for U.S. Senate, the couple took three much-needed vacations.

The most recent one was a trip to New York City, where they visited with New York Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg.

Tom and Jeannemarie were fascinated to learn Bloomberg actually sits in a cubicle, alongside his staffers.

Bloomberg, a former businessman, was mimicking the open style of Wall Street's trading floor when he invented his mayoral work space five years ago. (It's the same "bullpen" style D.C. Mayor Adrian M. Fenty borrowed from him).

After their lesson in good management, the pair talked to Bloomberg about guns.

Last month, Bloomberg traveled to Fairfax to endorse Jeannemarie in her tough campaign against Democrat J. Chapman "Chap" Petersen. Bloomberg has said illegal sales of handguns in Virginia have put weapons in the hands of criminals in New York.

He argues that tougher gun laws, including measures supported by her, are needed to slow violent crime in the nation's cities.

Laughing, Tom said Bloomberg "just loves Jeannemarie.''
