Frederick Launches Campaign for GOP Chair

The Potomac News reported today that Del. Jeffrey M. Frederick (R-Prince William) will run for chairman of the Republican Party of Virginia.
Frederick, 32, and his wife, Amy, have been considering the move for several weeks. In a conversation last week, Frederick said the party needs young leadership who can bolster its finances, organizational skills and outreach efforts.
Frederick is also Hispanic, which could help change the face of the party as it seeks to stem recent losses in increasingly diverse Northern Virginia.
The GOP central committee will gather in May to elect a chairman for a full term. It's unclear whether the current chairman, John H. Hager, plans to seek reelection.

It's about time! This is a breath of fresh air. Jeff has proven many times that he knows how to win elections, and that's exactly what the RPV needs. I like the idea of a "rebirth", and I can think of no one better who can lead the way.

No way! "Knows how to win elections"?? Winning Dumfries and Montclair as an arrogant ultraconservative does not equate to political skill. I'm a proud Republican, but Frederick grates me. The GOP in Virginia would be severely weakened if he were to win the chair.

Perhaps Jeff should be chair of my dysfunctional party. It would only be on condition that he leave the House, where he has already sat too long to do any good.

He's Hispanic? So The Race will get out the vote for him, right?

I've met Jeff, and while I disagree with him on some politics (I'm a Democrat), he is definitely not arrogant. That's why I voted for him in the last election. It seems to me that those who say he is arrogant don't really know him. I was impressed with him when I first met him (when I didn't vote for him that time), and he has continued to impress me with his straight talk and honest demeanor.

I'd say give Frederick a chance -- if he's a conservative who can win in Northern Virginia. That's the challenge these days.
