Let The Games Begin

Tim Craig

It's that time of year.

Virginia Democratic officials say someone is handing out fliers in Hampton Roads that mislead Democrats and Independents into thinking the election is Wednesday, Nov. 5.

The election is actually on Tuesday, Nov. 4.

The flier, which includes numerous misspelled words, appears as if it is written on official State Board of Elections stationary.

"For Immediate Release," it states. "Due to the larger than expected voter turnout in this year's electorial process (the word electoral is misspelled), an emergency session of the General Assembly has adopted the following emergency regulations to ease the load on local electorial precincts and ensure the a fair electorial process."

It continues, "All Republican party supporters and independent voters supporting Republican candidates shall vote on November 4th as pecribed by law. All Democratic party supporters and independent voters supporting Democratic candidates shall vote on November 5th as adopted by emergency regulation of the Virginia General Assembly."

Virginia Democrats say they had to battle similar misinformation campaign from GOP supporters in 2005 and 2006, but some Republicans suspect Democrats are actually behind the efforts in order to generate stories about potential voter suppression.

Either way, expect a lot of this over the next week.

These stories are about as common as the annual "check your kids candy for razor blades" articles that appear every year. I don't know who is dumber: voters that fall for it or the people that think it will work.

Far more insidious is the practice of distributing phony voter guides from respected groups or groups with respectable sounding names that recommend enough red herrings in some races to make the counter-intuitive picks in critical races seem plausible.

Dirty tricks are only limited by the imagination.

Given that the Democratic/Obama effort in getting out the vote on Nov. 4 will be unprecedented, it would appear that this attempt at voter supression would fail. It is somewhat comedic though.

"some Republicans suspect Democrats are actually behind the efforts in order to generate stories about potential voter suppression."

Sure they do. Because stories of voter suppression are just the thing to help get out the vote in a state where you're ahead, right?

Wrong! Part of the reason the GOP *does* voter suppression is because beyond its direct effect, if word gets around that people are being hassled at the polls, some less committed voters will decide not to bother.

We have one party in this country that believes elections are about determining the will of the people, and one that believes they're about winning by any means necessary. It's disgraceful.

What astounds me is the folks who are complaining that the Ffx. Registrar is FOLLOWING the law when it comes to absentee votes from service memebers. Arent't these the same folks (Republicans) who try to suppress the vote by making so many hoops for voters to jump through? Hoist with their own petard, no?

The misspelled words would seem to finger Republicans who tend to have computers where the CAP LOCK key is stuck and the spell check permanently disabled.

Let's all review how this year, not decades ago. OBAMA REFUSED TO DISAVOW Rev. Wright and his BLACK LIBERATION THEOLOGY TEACHINGS.

What is worse is that Obama exposed his children to the HATE OF BLACK LIBERATION THEOLOGY FOR YEARS.

EXPOSED HIS CHILDREN TO THAT RACIST HATE UNTIL IT BECAME POLITICALLY IMPOSSIBLE FOR OBAMA TO CONTINUE TO BRING HIS CHILDREN TO THE RACIST CHURCH !

IF A WHITE candidate had a similar church, the Washignton Post would be railing against that candidate.

The bias is great, the racism is unbelievable. The media has given Obama so many passes.

Then they have to go and get some FALSE CHARGES FROM DECADES AGO.

Investigate Obama and his democratic friends in Chicago.

Investigate his friend REZKO who has been indicted and whose story much of America does not know.

Investigate all the connections between Michele Obama and Farrakhan.

BE SERIOUS MEDIA.

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING DRINKING THE KOOL-AID OF THE OBAMA CAMPAIGN TALKING POINTS AS IF IT WERE TRUTH.

This kind of election fraud drives me nuts. It's not a game, these people need to be found out and prosecuted with speed and severe penalties.

You're complaining about spelling in a post which uses 'stationary' instead of 'stationery.'
