Kaine Ramps Up Fundraising for '09

With the federal election over, Gov. Timothy M. Kaine (D) is stepping up his efforts to raise money for his state political action committee, Moving Virginia Forward.
Since late October, Kaine has collected $115,000 from eight individuals or organizations.
Kaine collected $25,000 from Robert Smith, a Northern Virginia real estate developer. The Virginia Democratic Party also transferred $25,000 to the PAC immediately after the election. Genworth Financial , an insurance and financial services company with offices in Richmond, gave Kaine $15,000.
Kaine collected $10,000 each from two law firms, Richmond-based LeClair Ryan and Newport News-based Consumer Litigation Associates. Silver Honaker Development Co. LLC of Fredericksburg also gave $10,000, as did Suzann Matthews of McLean and Google CEO Eric Schmidt.
Kaine cannot seek a consecutive term, but his political director, Charlie Kelly, said the governor is gearing up to help Democrats in 2009.
"We have important House races and all statewide races are up so there is a lot to get prepared for," said Kelly, noting Kaine also has two fundraisers scheduled for next month.
