Perriello Wins House Seat

Anita Kumar

The State Board of Elections certified Virginia's Nov. 4 election results, which includes a win for Democrat Tom Perriello over Rep. Virgil H. Goode Jr., a longtime incumbent in southern Virginia.

Goode has not conceded the close race and has 10 days to ask for a recount. Calls to his spokesman were not immediately returned.

"The citizens of the fifth district have spoken, every vote has been counted and certified, and they have elected Tom Perriello to be their new representative in Washington to bring the change and economic recovery they need,'' said Jessica Barba, a Perriello spokeswoman..

I am glad the certified xenophobe is on his way out!

Virgil Goode was a disgrace to the United States and to the Commonwealth of Virginia. His departure from Congress--and, it is to be hoped, from public life--is wonderful news.

At last we in the Fifth District have an intelligent and decent man to represent our interests and to serve in the national legislature. I can only hope that, as the district gets to know him better, it will respond by giving him the long tenure that he deserves and that the district needs.

I do not live in the 5th district, but I'm happy to report that I voted a straight democractic ticket. I felt the need to send a strong message to the NEOCONS. ENOUGH ALREADY! I will monitor the democracts very closely. If they do not perform. They too will be voted out .GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Goode is the idiot who refused to shake hands with Keith Ellison, a black congressman elected to represent Minnesota and the first Muslim elected to Congress. Goode was blathering on about terrorism and what not. I'm happy for Goode that he will be spared the ordeal of sharing the congressional chamber with a Muslim.

While all you Charlottesville socialists are busy whooping it up and drinking Goode's blood, remember this: Perriello no more represents the majority of the Fifth District than does Ron Dellums. He rode into office on Obama's $600,000,000 war chest and a raft of student and absentee registrations. Four years from now, after the people realize that Obama and his congressional allies aren't water walkers, and that the middle class has again been seduced and abandoned, the money will dry up, and Perriello will be out on his ear. Enjoy it while you can.

Virgil had a long and often successful career. While I believe the time had come for his departure, lets work on making the 5th a more transparent and united community and move it forward. Unfortunately there are not enough resources available to bicker our way into the future. C-Ville sees itself in rural terms but really has no clue what the southside is really all about (the good and the bad). The 5th district can not afford to be like Northern Virginia v. the rest of Virginia. I believe Tom understands this and wish him well!

Another member of the 'hate and division' party bites the dust. Good riddance. The disaster brought on by the Republicans and their insane, ideological and religious based, policies has just begun to unfold. It will take years to fix the mess they made of America.

Say Goode riddance to Virgil's southern fried xenophobia which clogged the arteries of the heart of Virginia. It'll be so refreshing to have Tom Perriello's positive representation for VA-05.
