Voters Warned to Check on Polling Place

A small number of the hundreds of thousands of campaign brochures left on front doors across the state this morning by Democratic volunteers encouraging people to vote directed them to the wrong polling places.

The door hangers, which encouraged people to vote for Sen. Barack Obama for president and former governor Mark R. Warner for U.S. Senate, includes a printed address for the precints for each particular house.

Jared Leopold, a spokesman for the Virginia Democratic Party, said a small number of locations were wrong in some cases across the state, including a portion of the City of Richmond. Democratic volunteers plan to leave updated door hangers on the houses where they made mistakes.

State election officials said today they received reports from several locations across the state that automated calls are also providing incorrect polling place locations.

They warn voters to double check the information by contacting their local registrar's office or visiting the State Board of Elections website at

I do wonder about this, and how this can affect the election. I got TWO phone calls today telling me to go vote at a certain polling place, but it was the wrong one! My voter registration card has a different one! When I talked to one of the volunteers who called with the wrong polling place, she had my phone number linked to some other address in Manassas! This is crazy! I donated to the Democratic AND Obama campaigns, got my bumper stickers in the mail, etc. so I know they must have my correct address somewhere!
Man, I hope people don't listen to those calls or flyers...otherwise a bunch of Democrats will be going to the wrong polling places and I'd hate to think what that might do to the election results for Virginia.
