Republicans Rally for Herrity

Anita Kumar

The Republican Party of Virginia sent out an urgent email alert encouraging supporters to help the GOP win tomorrow's special election for Fairfax County board chairman.

"Tomorrow Republicans can make history and help push back against the pro-Obama Democrats who are attempting to take control of Virginia,'' according to the email. "But we need YOU to take action NOW!"

Republican Supervisor Pat S. Herrity (Springfield) will face Democrat Sharon S. Bulova (Braddock), the vice chairman of the Board of Supervisors, and two independents in tomorrow's election. They are competing to replace Democrat Gerald E. Connolly, who won a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in November.

"Virginia Democrats...have been very clear, if they lose this election, it will put a BIG damper on their plans to build on the Obama momentum and take back the Virginia House in next November's elections,'' according to the email.

I don't understand why anyone would rally for someone who sued the county and is running on the basis of nothing other than his father's name.

I don't understand why anyone would vote for Sharon Bulova who is responsible for the $650 Million deficit in Fairfax County. She is head of the budget committee!

Sorry alan8228, your logic is flawed. Try coming up with an original thought instead of parroting what you have read on Pat Herrity’s website. Ms. Bulova is not responsible for the Fairfax County Government deficit. The $650 M shortfall is primarily due to the County’s inability to intake adequate levels of tax income due to falling property values. Is Sharon Bulova or anyone on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors responsible for the present real estate crisis? NO - get real. Look to the past 8 years of wink-n-nod deregulation for that culpability.
As Chair of the Board’s Budget Committee, Ms. Bulova has done a stand up job managing the funds that the County has collected through real estate taxes. Fairfax County has some of the best-rated schools, parks, social services and business communities and environmental protection laws in the nation. Let’s keep our quality of life high in Fairfax County and not elect another republican ostrich which their head stuck in the past.

Agreed, if anything Pat Herrity's party is responsible for the 650 million dollar deficit. Maybe if he didn't sue the county and make the county pay for his petty lawsuit it would be a little smaller.

Herrity's biggest accomplishment is that his dad held the position. We've had great success with leaders like that.

It is impossible to blame the budget shortfall on the government in Washington. The Board of Supervisors with Ms Bulova presiding over the budget should have gotten a wif of what was coming as house values started to fall and foreclosures shot up. When nearly 60% of your budget comes from Real Estate tax, they should have started writing down the budget in 2007 instead of attempting to buy foreclosed properties in 2008 and possibly cutting team sports at schools. Now the government is faced with a reduction of 15% in all departments, that means real people will lose jobs and services will be cut.

Wink wink pot and kettle trick by Democrats in regards to Bulova/Connolly's budget nightmare mess. Last time i looked it was pegged at 650 million far outstripping any local Virginia jurisdiction per citizen at that. Quality of life? If you like traffic congestion, high crime, low benefits in regards to illegals stealing them and they do in sanctuary and illegal supportive areas. Then again they won't care until their wages sink so low and the quality of life is like Rio. Quaint. LOL

myc19, your arguments are laughable and blindsided by obvious liberal ideology.

"Look to the past 8 years of wink-n-nod deregulation for that culpability. "

Are you forgetting about the Community Reinvestment Act which forced mortgage companies to give mortgages to people with insufficient credit and capital? You lack the intelligence in your answer to understand anything about the economy. Oversimplifying the problem by blaming "deregulation" is not a coherent argument. Please, get your facts straight.

Bulova and Connolly were behind spending hundreds of millions of dollars on government owned housing and an unnecessary school administration building.

"The $650 M shortfall is primarily due to the County’s inability to intake adequate levels of tax income due to falling property values."

They pushed to raise real estate taxes and still came up with this huge deficit. They doubled real estate taxes and your argument is that they didn't raise it enough? If that's the case, wouldn't that be the fault of the budget committee chairman and the chairman of the board? Do you even know what you're trying to argue?

Bulova is no better than Tim Kaine who pushed a budget based on a massive 6.6% increase in revenue. In reality revenue decreased by about 3%!

Democrat’s math never adds up! Just ask Pelosi and her 500 million jobs lost every month!
