Federal Workers Union Endorses Deeds

From The Washington Post's Federal Eye blog:

The American Federation of Government Employees has endorsed Democrat R. Creigh Deeds for Virginia governor, providing the state senator with a reliable stable of political foot soldiers in his race against Republican Robert F. McDonnell. The federal workers union -- the nation's largest -- represents 30,000 members in the Old Dominion, concentrated mostly in the voter-rich Northern Virginia region.

"Senator Deeds has proven himself to be a friend of Virginia's working families", AFGE national vice presidents Joe Flynn and Dwight Bowman said in a statement. "Whether it has been fighting to create good jobs or writing some of the toughest legislation to keep our families and our environment safe and secure, Senator Deeds has shown that he can build the consensus necessary to keep Virginia moving forward."

Matching words with actions, the union promises a significant voter mobilization effort as election day nears.

"We do not endorse unless we also put our folks' feet on the street," said AFGE Political Director Bob Nicklas.
