McDonnell to announce Robinson education secretary

Gov.-elect Bob McDonnell is expected to name a nationally known educator and advocate for school choice and charter schools his education secretary tomorrow, sources tell us.
Gerard Robinson is president of the Washington-based Black Alliance for Education Options, which works to increase access to charter and private education for black families.
Robinson did not return a call for comment this afternoon.
McDonnell pledged to expand charter schools in Virginia during his campaign against Democrat Creigh Deeds, and he expects to make education one of his priorities during his first session.
McDonnell has scheduled a news conference for 10 a.m. tomorrow at the state Capitol to announce Robinson and other appointments. He is not expected to announce his final secretary -- health and human resources.
