McDonnell announces three Cabinet secretaries

Anita Kumar

Welcome back, everyone. We had some technical difficulties this morning with our blogs, but we're back now. So on with the show...

Gov.-elect Bob McDonnell announced his choices for secretaries of technology and natural resources as well as assistant to the governor for commonwealth preparedness at a news conference this morning at the state Capitol.

After considering current and former legislators to be his technology chief, McDonnell (R) instead selected Jim Duffey, a longtime executive at Electronic Data Systems Corp. and former Vice-Chairman of the Northern Virginia Technology Council.

McDonnell also appointed Doug Domenech as secretary of natural resources and former delegate Terrie Suit as assistant to the governor for commonwealth preparedness.

The role of technology secretary has taken on added importance since Virginia has been mired in a troubled $2 billion computer upgrade.

McDonnell has two Cabinet secretaries left to name -- health and human resources and education before he is sworn into office Jan. 16.
