McDonnell claims '19 point' win over Deeds -- contrary to vote count

Anita Kumar

No one disputes that Republican Bob McDonnell beat Democrat Creigh Deeds in the governor's race -- by a lot. 17.36 percent to be exact.

But soon after he won, McDonnell began announcing that he had won not by 17 points --but by 18 points.

Now, it seems he has started telling people he won by 19 points. Check out the video of McDonnell speaking last Friday at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington.

For the record, McDonnell received 58.61 percent, Deeds 41.25 percent.

So, can readers call this blog out as holding itself out to be influential when Technorati ratings place it at 1/10th the influence of such powerhouse blogs as Virginia Virtucon and Bearing Drift?

I am a dem, and really down that McDonnell won as easily as he did, but I don't think he is really that far off.

58.61 percent would round up to 59% and 41.25 would round down to 41%. Most media outlets likely reported an 18 point win (59 to 41). Also 19 versus 18? who cares, Ds got crushed and Mr. Bob clearly think he has a mandate.

Agreed, who cares? Pretty shoddy reporting in my opinion. Is it really that slow of a news day? Sadly, this is pretty typical of the WaPo.

I this the best thing she can come up with?

That's why VV and BD are spanking this blog.

That's it. That's the best you can come up with. No wonder this paper is in trouble.

Anita,

Taliban Bob is running for Vice President. If successful in getting the nomination, he will be the Sarah Palin of 2012. Let him be. (I can't wait to see who will play him on SNL. I'm thinking it will be either Seth Meyers or Bill Hader.)

All the issues facing this area, and this is what the principal architect of the Deeds catastrophic landslide defeat, Anita Kumar, chooses to write about? Not surprised, she's still bitterly joined at the hip with Cree baby..

Thank you for keeping us up on what McDonnell is claiming and doing to Virginia. I appreciate your hard work!

This critique is so bright, insightful, fair, accurate, balanced, meaningful, and perspicuous to slam someone for being 95 percent accurate. Can one of you progressive let me know where I can find the re-education camp that puts me on the road to the same level of awareness?
