McDonnell hires coordinator for new federal health care bill
Gov. Bob McDonnell has hired Cindi Jones, the acting Medicaid director, to fill a new position as director of the Virginia Health Reform Initiative -- helping Virginia expand its Medicaid eligibility, plan for new health care exchanges that the law mandates in 2014 and make the state's system more affordable. She will begin July 1.
"This challenging and exciting position will allow me to work closely with the Secretary and the various stakeholders on shaping the health care reform efforts in Virginia,'' Jones wrote in an email to state employees this week.
Jones also says in her email to employees that McDonnell has filled the job of Virginia Medicaid director. We hear Secretary of Health and Human Resources Bill Hazel has offered the job to Gregg A. Pane, the former director of the D.C. Health Department.
D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty replaced Pane in 2007, saying he wanted a "more aggressive public health strategy," according to a news release from Fenty's office.
But McDonnell's office said this week that no decision has been made just yet.
