GOP's Kelly outpaces Zimmerman in fundraising

This was a hot summer for Mark D. Kelly, the Republican candidate for the Arlington County Board. Kelly raised more money within the July-August filing period than Democratic incumbent Chris Zimmerman, according to the Virginia Public Access Project.

In fact, he raised $10,113 and reported having $18,056 on hand. During that same period, Zimmerman raised $6,535 with $9,073 on hand. A third Green Party candidate, J. Kevin Chisholm, raised $395 with $24 ready to spend.

Zimmerman, who has been a board member since 1996, still leads in overall fundraising with $26,284 raised this election cycle. Kelly has raised almost $22,500 for his campaign and Chisholm has raised a total of $695.

Residents within the 22207 Zip Code have contributed 27 percent of the funding for all three candidates, according to Virginia Public Access Project statistics.

Doesn't matter. Kelly can't win in Arlington County; too conservative.

Kelly made a good impression at the Civic Federation debate (Sep. 7) - focusing on Zimmerman's mismanagement of Metro system, as well as skyrocketing County spending.

And many Arlington residents are outraged by Zimmerman's bizarre lawsuit ("HOT lanes are racist") - filing abusive legal actions against a mid-level Federal carerr employees, and spending more than $1 million in County tax dollars in the process.

Arlington is more than ready for a little balance on the County Board. And Zimmerman deserves to be sent packing.

CHRIS ZIMMERMAN: “Let ‘em eat cake.”
Who does this nonentity think he is? I will tell you who he is. Picture him as a woman in a beehive hairdo cavorting with the peasants in 18th century France, displaying an affectation for the countryside. You’ve got it. Marie Antoinette.
Chris Zimmerman is a male Marie Antoinette. He believes that people who live in Arlington are there to finance his boondoggles. They are there to pay for every one of his grotesque fantasies about how to spend their money. He pretends he is a simple man. He longs for the past. He spends our money to carry out his fantasies.
Picture another image. A laughing man in a white toga, playing a stringed instrument while a city burns in the background. You’ve got it. Nero fiddling while Rome burns. That’s another way you could think about how Chris Zimmerman operates.
Let’s dump this clown before your property taxes get so high that even if you rent, your landlord will raise your rent astronomically to finance the tax increase. If you have spent your hard-earned money to buy a house or a condo, you will have to sell and move somewhere else where elected government officials don’t rob you of it by enacting absurdly high taxes to finance equally absurd boondoggles.
Vote for Mark Kelly. Dump Zimmerman. Let’s dump Zimmerman and get rid of the bleeding. Stop sweating any more tax hikes. This is it. We have had enough.
I am not even a Republican. I just have had enough of this bleeding so Chris Zimmerman can carry out his absurd pet projects.

1996 was when Chris Zimmerman first assumed office on the Arlington County Board. 1996 was when the abuse began. When taxes began to rise and rise and rise like the ugly highrise buildings in Ballston. Like the even uglier highrise buildings all over the place in Arlington.

If Chris Zimmerman is such an environmentalist, why didn't he stop all thus unrestrained "growth"? Because Chris Zimmerman isn't an environmentalist.

He's an opportunist and he does it by doing what all cheap, sleazy politicians do, by raising your taxes.

I am not even a Republican but I say no Democrat should vote for Chris Zimmerman.
