Gore coming to Reston to raise cash for Moran

Ben Pershing

Looks like it's Presidential Also-Ran Week in Virginia's 8th congressional district.

Tonight, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) will be in Alexandria to headline a fundraiser for Patrick Murray (R), the former U.S. Army colonel challenging Rep. James P. Moran Jr. (D). Now it turns out Murray isn't the only one bringing a losing presidential candidate to the district.

On Sunday, former Vice President Al Gore will be in Reston as the main attraction at a Moran fundraiser, to be held at the home of Don Owens and Chris Griffin. (The hosts, a husband-and-wife team, run an insurance and financial services firm in Herndon.) The cost of entry ranges from $100 for "guests" to $1,000 apiece for "hosts."

Moran is the prohibitive favorite in the heavily Democratic 8th district, and had a massive financial advantage over Murray as of June 30.

No word yet on whether Michael Dukakis or Bob Dole might decide to wade into the race too.

Bringing him to the district? Doesn't Gore have a house in Arlington?

He does own a house -- I have seen him on a bike ride in South Arlington. It is my understanding that he no longer lives there, unless recent personal developments have caused him to move from Tennessee.

The Post could have called him Former Vice President Gore or Nobel Laureate and Former Vice President Gore -- but you chose to give him a sad little title. Shame on you.

rebeccajm-looks like he was identified as former VP Gore in the story.

Alternatively, he could be identified as the pol who lost a 15 point lead, multiple debates and the presidential election.

Jim Moran is another ineffectual incumbent. It is past time for him to be replaced.

Ahhh, so we'll have 2 morons in Reston on Sunday. And gee, only $100 - $1000.

Wonder if the entry fee includes a massage?
