McDonnell names (another) group to examine cost cutting measures

Anita Kumar

Gov. Bob McDonnell (R) has tapped Bill Leighty, chief of staff to former governors Tim Kaine and Mark Warner, to head a new task force to look for more ways for the state to save money.

Leighty serves as special adviser to McDonnell's government reform commission, which is examining similar issues.

"This task force will further examine ways to eliminate inefficiencies and reduce excess waste,'' McDonnell said. "We need to identify and implement best practices that help ensure state government is a good steward of our taxpayers' hard earned dollars. This is collaboration and teamwork at its best and I thank Chairman Leighty for his leadership in this endeavor."

The task force will complete its work no later than Nov. 12, and will present a report to the Governor's Commission on Government Reform and Restructuring.
