McDonnell names Davis to Metropolitian Washington Airports Authority
Gov. Bob McDonnell (R) has named former representative Tom Davis (R) to the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, a key Northern Virginia post that oversees the area's two big airports, the Dulles Toll Road and the Dulles rail project.
Davis replaces David G. Speck, an appointee of Gov. Mark Warner (D) whose term is ending. Davis's appointment becomes effective Nov. 24. Davis is currently the director of federal government affairs at Deloitte LLP. His wife, Jeannemarie Devolites Davis, is a former state senator and serves as McDonnell's liaison in Washington.
The Davis appointment is one of a number of appointments made by McDonnell on Friday. He also named Craig M. Burns, a 22-year state financial analyst, as Virginia's Tax Commissioner. Burns had held the job on an interim basis since July, after the unexpected death of Commissioner Jeanie Bowen.
He reappointed Paula I. Otto as executive director of the Virginia Lottery, a job she's held since 2008.
He also named four new members of the Governor's Advisory Council on Revenue Estimates. The group is a key economic forecasting panel that devises predictions of tax collections that help drive the governor's budget. GACRE will meet this month to come up with revenue estimates that will help shape the budget McDonnell unveils Dec. 17.
A spokeswoman for McDonnell said the council's new members will participate in this month's meeting, along with 12 sitting members McDonnell has reappointed . GACRE's new members are:
- Karen Booth Adams of Glen Allen, chief executive of Fahrenheit Technology
- Frank Genovese of Midlothian, retired president of the Rothbury Corp.
- Jonas E. Neihardt of Alexandria, senior vice president of Government Relations for Hilton Worldwide
- Deborah Petrine of Hardy, president and chief executive of CCR Inc.
