Senate panel kills House-approved bills targeting illegal immigration

By Fredrick Kunkle

A Democratic-led Senate subcommittee on Wednesday made short work of Republican bills sent over from the GOP-led House to crack down on illegal immigration, including a measure that would have applied Prince William County's strategy to the whole state.

HB1421 - the so-called anti-sanctuary bill sponsored by Del. David B. Albo (R-Fairfax)?

Dead.

HB1465 -- a bill from Del. Christopher Peace (R-Hanover) that would require colleges and universities to adopt written policies prohibiting the enrollment of illegal aliens?

Dead.

HB2332 -- Del. Scott Lingamfelter's proposal modeled on Prince William County that would require police to ascertain the immigration status of anyone arrested?

Dead.

Hurrying because the full Senate was to convene late in the day -- and perhaps because the outcome was all but pre-ordained -- Senate Majority Leader Richard L. Saslaw pestered the subcommittee chairman, Sen. John S. Edwards, to move things along. And Edwards (D-Roanoke) did, sometimes giving witnesses less than a minute to speak or no time at all.

Then Saslaw would make a motion to kill the bill, Sen. L. Louise Lucas (D-Portsmouth) would second, and the Democrats, joined by Sen. Henry Marsh, would inevitably swamp Sen. Frederick M. Quayle, (R-Chesapeake), who several times cast the lone vote for Republicans.

"No one who pays attention to these things at all is surprised," said Del. Todd Gilbert (R-Shenandoah), whose closely watched bill designed to tally immigrant schoolchildren also died. "The Democrats threw in with the open-borders crowd a long time ago, so they're just being consistent."

His bill would have required local school boards to count the number of children who could not provide a birth certificate or enrolled in English as a Second Language courses.

The panel did approve measures to revoke drivers' licenses from people who are deported and to require some large government contractors to begin using the federal, computerized eVerify system to check workers' immigration status.

Although the panel voted to kill a stricter House eVerify bill sponsored by Del. Charles W. Carrico Sr. (R-Grayson), the members agreed to roll another eVerify measure sponsored by Del. Richard L. Anderson (R-Prince William) into a more lenient measure that Sen. George L. Barker and Sen. Jeffrey L. McWaters (R-Virginia Beach) shepherded through the Senate.

An overflow crowd filled the hearing room for the fast-moving hearing.

Supporters, such as the American Council for Immigration Reform, talked about the hidden costs of undocumented immigrants and crimes committed by illegal immigrants who should have been deported, including the triple slaying in Manassas on Feb. 10 that allegedly was committed by a man identified by police as an illegal immigrant.

"Several murders -- the one just last week -- may have been prevented if that person had been held," said John Kwapisz, of the Virginia chapter of the American Coalition for Immigration Reform.

A small contractor, Fred Laube, who owns Duke Construction, Inc. in Goochland, told the panel that he cannot compete with people willing to work for $3 or $4 an hour under the table while he pays taxes and files forms for his crews. He estimated that he has lost one out of every five possible home improvement jobs to competitors who use illegal immigrant labor and come in 30 percent under his estimates.

"We are paying what we are supposed to pay, and they don't," Laube said. "It's not fair."

Opponents warned that some bills would stir irrational fear and bigotry against immigrant communities, making them vulnerable to profiling or driving them further into the shadows.

Beatrice Amberman, founder of the Hispanic Community Dialogue Organization, warned some of the measures would damage the relationship between police and the immigrant community, who might be reluctant to report crimes.

Rebecca Jaramillo, of the Democratic Latino Organization of Virginia, suggested that some of those who were motivated to take action against illegal immigration were motivated by bigotry and discomfort with sweeping demographic changes that she has welcomed.

"But there were some people who were not thrilled, and they have done and they have had some behaviors that, quite frankly, have made me ashamed to be from that area," Jaramillo said. "It is time for people like me to say 'Enough. We can accept these people into our commuintiy without changing the commuity too much.' "

Business groups, such as the National Federation of Independent Business, also pushed back against measures that would require them to use the federal eVerify program, saying that rushing to comply could be an extra burden, especially for smaller businesses.

Some Democrats also warned that the GOP-led crackdown could backfire in a state that has become much more diverse, according to the latest census.

"The Republicans are on a longterm kamikaze mission," Del. Scott A. Surovell, a Democrat in a Fairfax district whose percentage of white voters declined by 10 percent in the past decade. "What's next -- they're going to require the grocery stores toi find out if you're here legally before you can buy food?"

These pandering senators reject these bills at their own peril. The majority of people in this country want our laws against ILLEGAL immigration enforced and the invasion stopped. Doing nothing is no longer an option!

This November every single one of those Senators is up for re-election, and control of the Senate of Virginia is in play.

It amazes me how illegal alien cheerleaders call citizens who want our immigration laws enforced cry "bigotry."

You know what's bigoted? People who think they are above the law. People who refuse to assimilate. People who feel fully entitled to their parasitic lifestyles at the expense of Americans who never asked them here.

Illegal aliens are invaders. They give no respect, and they deserve no respect.

The policies of giving our jobs to other countries and illegal aliens have already backfired for Democrats. Myself and many other blue collar democrats voted Republican in the midterms for the very first time.

Another threat from the Latin American Hispanics. It is good to know that that sort of corruption is supported by the Democrats in opposition to the citizens of the United States.

So tired of hearing how those here illegally deserve special programs and consideration of their culture when they disobey laws and commit crimes. Come here legally, assimilate into US culture, obey the laws of these United States, and face the consequences if you don't. Why do children of illegals deserve special programs for college when US citizens are held to higher standards? Why should my tax dollars go toward benefits for illegals?

Only the federal government can effectively deal with the illegal immigration problem. Everything else is just window dressing. The state should not use its limited resources this way, especially when the effectiveness and legality of some of these proposals is questionable. It really looks like some people are using this as a campaign brochure issue.

These senators are traitors to our country. We are under attack by foreign invaders, here to take what they can from U.S. taxpayers with no consequences. They steal our identities, evade taxes by working for cash and steal jobs, then get welfare checks for their anchor babies. And they are having twice as many kids as U.S. taxpayers. They are also a menace as they drive without licenses or insurance.

Another election is coming. We will see if the people are behind those who want to protect citizens from the invasion of criminal/welfare class overrunning us.

Good for the VA Senate. These racist and unconstitutional bills did not deserve to see the light of day. Shame on VA Assembly. What a bunch of utter bigots.

WOW! Democracy at its finest! Aren't you all proud of the way VA conducts it law-making? Makes me want to weep. I have now added VA to the list of states in which I will not spend any money. I'm really going to miss vacations in VA, which is one of my favorite places in the US.

This issue has changed me from being a life-long Democrat to an Independent who voted a straight Republican ticket in the mid-term elections, something I could never have fathomed doing 20 years ago.

As I watch the factions debate, I have to wonder if anyone is checking the citizenship status of those illegal-alien advocates. They act as agents of foreign nations. Then it all made sense when I learned that Congress had caved to pressure from the Mexican government so that naturalized Americans from Mexico are the only ones who are allowed to retain their citizenship in their country of origin and have dual Mexican and American citizenship. They are not required to swear to revoke their loyalty to their country of origin, like all the other naturalized Americans must. Personally, I do not trust any advocacy efforts from a person who is still a Mexican citizen. And I think their status as such should be publicly announced every time they make any public statements. Until Congress repeals this repulsive favoritism to Mexico and requires all who hold dual citizenship to choose exclusively one country in which to hold citizenship and loyalty, caveat emptor.

These democratic "representatives" are not enforcing law. They are pandering to a growing population of illiegal aliens in Virginia. They need to be booted out!!

Everybody says there is this RACE problem. Everybody says this RACE problem will be solved when the third world pours into EVERY white country and ONLY into white countries.

The Netherlands and Belgium are just as crowded as Japan or Taiwan, but nobody says Japan or Taiwan will solve this RACE problem by bringing in millions of third worlders and quote assimilating unquote with them.

Everybody says the final solution to this RACE problem is for EVERY white country and ONLY white countries to “assimilate,” i.e., intermarry, with all those non-whites.

What if I said there was this RACE problem and this RACE problem would be solved only if hundreds of millions of non-blacks were brought into EVERY black country and ONLY into black countries?

How long would it take anyone to realize I’m not talking about a RACE problem. I am talking about the final solution to the BLACK problem?

And how long would it take any sane black man to notice this and what kind of psycho black man wouldn’t object to this?

But if I tell that obvious truth about the ongoing program of genocide against my race, the white race, Liberals and respectable conservatives agree that I am a nazikkkmember.

They say they are anti-racist. What they are is anti-white.

Anti-racist is just a code word for anti-white.

Secure Communities a program that expedites fingerprints gathered by local law enforcement agencies to the FBI and then through a federal (ICE) immigration database to identify undocumented immigrants. Over a thousand jurisdictions in 40 States and others ready to participate. All these enforcement programs cost millions of dollars, but it touches nowhere near the hundreds of billions of dollars extracted from your taxes to support illegal aliens. The border remains frighteningly open and their is no program to guarantee that foreign airline passengers will leave after their entry visa expires? American immigration laws have been mocked since the 1986 amnesty law by both the US Government and the businesses that hire discount labor. If their was a real effort by any administration to halt the illegal alien invasion, any illegal invader would be facing a felony, not a stupid minor infraction.

I joined the Tea PARTY as more and more taxes are being taken, to support the education, health care and other social welfare programs in pandering to the illegal immigrants. I am also an activist of the million plus membership of NumbersUSA pro-sovereignty organization, that allows free faxes to your resident State Representative or even the leadership in Washington. You can also contact your politicians through the Switchboard in DC at 202-224-3121. Their is a Pdf file "Illegal Aliens and American Medicine."that every American should assimilate. It will probably give you heartburn and the billions of dollars we are paying to support health care for illegal aliens, that should be going in the pensions of old American warriors, OUR senior citizens, OUR homeless, Our blind, our sick, handicapped and those citizens living in poverty. This is just part of the deception and collusion of our legislators, who have been corrupted by special interests. We should bring our mil

IT'S EITHER MILLIONS WE SPEND OR A HUNDRED BILLION DOLLARS PLUS?

Just like the Great Land Rush of the 19th century, hundreds of thousands even millions of illegal aliens will be fleeing different States enacting policing laws. Idaho, Florida Utah, Missouri, Texas, North Carolina, Maryland, Tennessee, Minnesota and of course the great State of Arizona, who is battling for survival in the biased-oriented court system.,In swarms they will be loading their trucks, packing their families and leaving less hospitable locations. They are heading they think to other States with easy welfare pickings, with brought and sold legislators where the laws are not enforced. Even the cash strapped, Sanctuary State of California has numerous counties ready to embark with E-Verify, as a mandatory verification warning to foreign nationals you better not apply for a job here, as the business owner is unlikely to take the risk of losing his business license. Other States are introducing laws including the federal 287 (g) law to train local police in arrest and detain suspicious individuals on hold for ICE agents.

Thank you Mr. Kunkle for documenting for us play by play how "OUR" Representatives worked hand in hand with the ethnocentric groups and the greedy employers who don't want to use e-Verify to maintain the illegal status quo. The open borders crowd wins again at the expense of citizens and taxpayers. Glad to know who these Representatives really represent.
It's enlightening to know who exactly stood in the way of this legislation.
I hope each and every member is featured in campaign ads in the Fall working so hard to do the "peoples" business.

Why do Democrats hate Americans so much?

Posted by: pmendez
---------------------------------------------

The Republicans are even worse! We don't have much in Representation!
Democrats want the illegals here and Republicans won't be happy until all Americans live in cardboard boxes!
The GOP wants us super poor!
They want Social Security gone, pensions stolen by their rich friends! Medi-care
removed and all Unions destroyed!
That is just to name a few things.

We are in a mess Americans!

Do any of you know how long it takes to become a U.S. citizen? For one thing, if you come here illegally, you can NEVER become a U.S. citizen. You are barred except for very rare circumstances. Once you come here LEGALLY (up to a 20 year waiting process for Mexico, even if your family member is a U.S. citizen), you must wait 5 years to become a lawful permanent resident and another 3 years to apply for citizenship. There are only 5,000 unskilled labor Visas available annually. 5,000! Just one vineyard in California uses 5,000 immigrants. 98% of illegal aliens wish they could come here legally, but our immigration system is out of date and reflects a time period when most U.S. citizens were unskilled and the only Visas available were for doctors and professors. Now, most U.S. citizens are highly skilled and unwilling to work for $6 an hour in a chicken plant. If your only reason for hating Hispanics is that you think they should come here legally and become U.S. citizens, then give them a break. Trust me, they desparately want to, they're not trying to evade taxes and suck up our benefits. In fact, you can't receive food stamps unless you are a U.S. citizen in many states and you can't recevie welfare and disability unless you are at least a Lawful Permanent Resident.
