Averill to lead Americans for Prosperity's Virginia office
Americans for Prosperity, a group that supports a free market, low taxes and transparency in government, has hired longtime Republican activist Trixie Averill as its new state director.
Averill, the party's Sixth Congressional District chairwoman who serves on its Republican State Central Committee, replaces Ben Marchi, who left the organization Sunday after three years.
"Averill has played an influential role in Virginia's conservative turnaround," Marchi said. "She's a great example of how conservatives can be community organizers too."
Averill is well known -- volunteering on campaigns, lobbying for various consulting firms and serving on community boards, including the Virginia Tourism Corporation.
"Virginia has the potential to be one of the most economically competitive states in the country," Averill said. "The Virginia chapter of Americans for Prosperity is ready to organize its members to urge the governor and legislature to rein in wasteful spending and get a hold of the state's unsustainable budget."
Averill has notified the Republican Party of Virginia that she plans to step down from her party position on April 5.
