Legal or illegal, just pay your share of the taxes.

He's not going to give illegals drivers license's. He will get stopped by the senate and congress. Obama needs to wake up and realize he isn't God and he isn't going to make the rules. Shame on the people who really believe it. Illegals are not citizens therefore will never have that luxury.

After reading uninformed comments like some of those posted here, I feel really afraid for this country, and sad that some people are so lazy that they would rather hate others than try to make America better. So poor, hard-working people leave their countries, their families, and their communities to reach for the American Dream? Although they are in the great tradition of this country (who gave Captain John Smith a green card?) they are branded as "illegals." People who care about the United States, instead of feeling comfortable throwing around the word "illegal" might want to understand that our intervention in the world--yes, remember El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua--results in suppressing social change that would mean their lives are better. We give money to the military in Central America, people flee the repression and poverty and come here to mop floors and work construction. Is that so hard to understand, Mr. Lazy Patriot? Love America more, learn about our role in the world, and maybe you can understand why your whining about "illegals" is so off key.

Go Obama, Time has come for our country to change its direction and future and the ony candidate is capable doing it is Obama, I am not fulish and stupid to vote for old Mccain that is going to follow failed policy of Bush, we had enough of Clintons and Time has come for non plitical binded and real representive of our people and he is Obama. Mccain belongs to history and Obama belongs to future our new generation are wise enought whom to Vote to save country from this hardship time caused by mistakes of Bush, stuburn Bush is lier he does not tell the true that Iraq was more safer and did not have any alquida before invasion, by his invasion he has created safe heaven for all terrorists. He lies and scares american people to cover up his wrong doing. Iraqi people once we come out will get rid of alquida and the only reason alquida is there because of our presensence.

I have my preference but I am excited about the level of respect and maturity of this campaign. A lot about this election shows we have grown up a bit as a country. Our candidates are demonstrating our educational values in their language and content of their speeches, and in their regard for everyman. There is little or no mud slinging. There is no hint of "connecting disrespect" in an attempt to identify with a group through stereotype in order to secure their vote. They are simply themselves...neither talking down nor up..but displaying who they are and what they have to offer and making us proud. THAT ALONE IS CHANGE

I am in favor of immigration. I am a third generation American. My Grandfather came over from Russia in 1905. With a third grade education, he raised six kids, survived the Depression and instilled a work ethic that is apparent in his Great-Grand kids! With a high school education, my father served in the Air Force, raised two kids, retired from the US Gov, started his own business and is now a millionaire. His kids are both college grads, one with an MBA, one with a doctorate.
And guess what? I have the papers that show my five year old grandfather coming through Ellis Island. Immigrant YES, Illegal Immigrant, HELL NO!

So, "Illegal Immigration" so you think America should be dominated by whites who stole this land forever? Basically all you illegal immigration whiners had fathers who stole a car, then you started using the car, and now someone else stole the car, and you're complaining that it was stolen. I hope wave after wave of Mexicans drive all of you to the sea.

The new Pew Foundation study shows the population of the US reaching nearly half a billion human beings by 2050. The Foundation calculates that 84% of population growth will come from immigration, both legal and illegal.
The refusal of the Democrats to contenance control of illegal immigration and reduction in overall immigrant numbers means that severe degradation of the American environment, of our 20th century standard of living, and of our traditional freedoms as citizens of a spacious republic, probably will occur well within my lifetime.
Obama's planned orgy of government expenditure seems to be the benchmark for a public unwilling to acknowledge the physical and legal limits placed on society by nature and nature's God. The globalist wing of the Republicans don't seem far behind.
Conservatives and conservationists (social and environmental faces of the same worldview) must continue to warn the nation. Our visions of freedom and sustainable prosperity must be tempered, however, by the probability that current trends may only be reversed after a catastrophe of our own making, and not, as is the goal of all good governance, before one strikes.

Dear Sir I appreciate Martin o'Malley supporting Hillary Clinton, a Woman for President she has the experience to be one of the best and first ever woman President. Obama is a fine young man, but doesn't have the experience of a Hillary Clinton. his day will come. thank you Tom Monaghan

I am a legal immigrant, waiting for over a year now for my residency application to be approved. My wife and I live in poverty; I cannot work, I cannot go to school, I cannot drive. Right now I volunteer at a community center and help people learn how to use computers and find work online.
This country was built on immigration - as evlanton said, who gave Captain Smith a green card? I understand that once this land was once and for all stolen from the natives, green cards have become necessary, but what I don't understand is why the immigration system doesn't allow enough people in to fulfill the demand (which obviously exists), and why it makes it so damn difficult for perfectly legal immigrants like myself to get on with their lives.

All you need to ask yourself is, for all of the talk, who do you really trust to do the hard work necessary to address this issue?
Not Obama....

I'm a firm beleiver in the immigration reform movement and I have a radical yet revoluntionary idea of how to solve the immigration problem-give anyone that wants to immigrate a free pass out of the country and they can take a few illegals with them. The sooner we get rid of the illegals the better off all of us "real americans" are!! The only good immigrant as far as I'm concerned is the one who stays out of the United States!!

What a wonderful article on volunteer Mary Boergers! Yes, immigration is a difficult issue. In multicultural Canada, where UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE is the right of all citizens since 1965 and Women's rights are enshrined in the Constitution since 1981 (unlike your ERA), it is fascinating to watch your Democratic nominee campaigns. My question to voters would be: Why would a neophyte kid barely around the (Washington) block like Hussein Obama who has shown no substance and has yet to learn to change his own political diapers be preferred as President over the woman who's given life-long commitment to the concept of Public Service and has travelled throughout the world using her diplamatic skills to help women and children and win friends to the US . Having watched the debates and Obama's flimsy, arrogant style, I know why Lou Dobbs called him "Precious Obama" on air recently!! Let him first learn how to walk before he runs with the job. His resume leaves a lot to be desired.
Hillary R. Clinton should get the vote if only for her wonderful Universal Health care plan alone! We'll never forget her gutsy speech in 1995 in Beijing when she bravely declared (much to the bewilderment of Chinese and other officials!) "WOMEN'S RIGHTS ARE HUMAN RIGHTS".
If American voters forget that the basis of a civil society is the healthy regard for its families, then Style will win over Substance and inevitably another catastrophic Bush-like regime awaits the rest of the world, as well..! Good Luck to Hillary and America! You deserve it.

If Mr. Obama wins the nomination and Mr. McCain becomes the invevitable President of the US, then perhaps Americans may consider the possibility of immigrating to Multicultural Canada where universal health care is the right of all citizens and women's rights are Charter-protected...

The question for me is "HOW MUCH immigration" do we need and can we afford? The Senate in its rush to try to pass Comprehensive Immigration Reform refused to address the issue of how many immigrants amnesty would be letting into the country now and into the future and just what those immigrants would cost us in terms of social services and displaced workers. Without some notion of how many people we want, how can we hope to have a rational and fair immigration policy? And without enforcement, whatever policy we have is doomed to fail.

Obama is the real thing.
When was the last time a politician's words were made into a popular American song and then to see it downloaded 10,000,000 times in a week across the Web?
Obama is bringing real hope to the country. The changes he will bring will be a result of his ability to get people to take action as they're doing now for his campaign.
I believe in this candidate and after nearly 30 years of a Bush or Clinton in the White House we will finally have a candidate we all WANT to believe in.
And yes, America is sick and tired of Lewinsky, the Rose Law Firm, Whitewater, Vince Foster, Travelgate, or cattle futures.
The real question is the potential for Clinton to steal the campaign with vote-rigging as seen here on YouTube testimony to congress:

They say that Clinton cannot win caucuses, just where voting machines are involved. hmmmm.....

Think what you like but I believe most Americans don't have a problem with legal immigration, it's the illegal immigration that's the problem. And yes, 500 years ago illegal settlers came in to this country and yes the white man fought and killed and drove the indians off and stole their land. That is in the past and it cannot be undone. I bet the Indians wished they had been tougher on illegal immigration. Legal immigration is good for this country in limited numbers. Half of the world cannot come to the USA. There are no wild lands or open plains that need settled. At the rate of the illegal's entering this country in a short time this country will not be able to take care of or handle the population that exists in the USA let alone give help to other countries as we do now. Any jobs are hard to come by now let alone find one that pays decent money. The "American" way of life that everyone has enjoyed will no longer exist. The USA will become a 3rd world country within itself. This country is the same as your household, you may be able to help feed one or two of your neighbors. But if the whole town shows up for dinner, all will starve. And for the ones who complain about what happened 500 years ago, give up your spot and move to France and correct the error.

Dear 'Evlanton':
Then YOU can pay my share of increased taxes, my health insurance increases due to abuse of our hospital system, my auto insurance increases due to unliscensed and uninsured drivers and your childs medical bills when that illegal immigrant, unliscensed, uninsured driver puts her in the hospital.
Then drives off calling you a bigot.

Dear 'WangBang' (you've got to be kidding with that name!)
Go back into the woods bigot! There was no mention of any race in that post.

I do not mind and gladly welcome immigration. What I do not welcome are illegals circumventing the 'natural born' loophole in the US Constitution. When I lived in NC, I asked my Congressmen/woman to consider the following: if a child is born here in the US of illegals, give the child five years of citizenship and within that time the parents have the opportunity to become naturalized and at the end of the five years if they have done so, DEPORT THEM ALL! Then it would be obvious, that they have no intention to become apart of the system and therefore should NOT be allowed to abuse the system by which is a 'given' by its own citizens!

Dear "arioch",
You are correct blame all of America's problems on the illegals. It's the new trend. The illegals told Bush to invade Iraq and seek revenge for the plot to kill his daddy. Blame the illegals and not the greedy lenders who helped cause most if not the entire mess with the housing market foreclosures.
And of course blame the illegals for the depression, the rising cost of oil and even better yet, just fill in the blank. Illegals are responsible for _______.
Take a hard look at who has been running this country for the past eight years and you should get a better understanding of where possibly some of the problems with America's economy began.

I have a mind of my own. Fenty or any other politician will not help me make up my mind on a candidate. As I see it, Obama and Clinton are liberal on the illlegal immigration issue. If either are elected, they will open the borders to Mexico and Central America. If this happens, the United States of America as we know it will be finished.
