Verizon Customers Hit By Outage In Burtonsville
About 500 Verizon telephone customers in Burtonsville lost land-line service today when a trunk line was severely damaged. Cellphone subscribers were not affected by the outage, but land-line customers along Route 198 between Route 29 and Interstate 95 may be without service until tomorrow morning, the company said in a press release.
The outage is centered near Old Columbia Pike at the Burtonsville Shopping Center.
Verizon is providing a limited number of emergency cellphones to customers affected by the outage. The cellphones will be available after 6 p.m. today at a trailer parked in the Zimmerman's Ace Hardware parking lot, located at 3801 Sandy Spring Road in Burtonsville.
Montgomery County Police said officers will be conducting extra patrols in the outage area.
