Washington Redskins Ink Deal With Russell Athletic

The Washington Redskins, one of the richest teams in sports, have signed a three-year sponsorship deal with Russell Athletic, expanding the athletic wear and equipment company's presence in the Washington market.

The deal will include Russell's promotions on Redskins radio broadcasts, stadium signage and in-stadium video promotions, according to the company.

The Redskins and Russell declined to comment on the terms of the deal.

The sports apparel maker is a major supplier of uniforms and equipment to high school, college and professional teams.

Russell is a subsidiary of Fruit of the Loom, Inc., a Berkshire Hathaway company.

It doesn't. It's probably just another way for Dan and crew to gouge the hell out of the fans. That's why they are one of the richest franchises in sports. I doubt this deal will make anything even remotely better for the people footing the bill. It probably just means that we'll see "Russell Athletic" on everything Redskins-related now. Big friggin deal.

And this helps the fans how?

It doesn't help the fans but then it's not supposed to; or actually, doesn't have to. All it is, is another advertising outlet for Russell Athletic. They get their name and product in front of more people; people see the name and the product, and if they want, they buy the product; Russell Athletic makes money from the sales. It's nothing more or less than that. Will we see Russell Athletic on everything Redskins, as you suggest? Probably, but who cares. If it makes you pay attention to their product, it's the same as any other advertisement; if you like the product, buy it; if you don't like the product, don't buy it.

Full disclosure: Warren Buffett runs Berkshire Hathaway and sits on the board of the Washington Post.

This is great news! It must mean the Skins will win the Super Bowl this year right?
Wake me in October or when their season is over, whichever comes first.
