*Royal Ahold appointed Carl Schlicker to succeed Jose Alvarez as chief executive of its Stop & Shop/Giant-Landover unit. Alvarez will become executive vice president for global business development and will report to Ahold CEO John Rishton, the Amsterdam-based company said.

I don't know about this. Jose Alvarez has turned this business around, and made Stop & Shop strong. Carl Schlicker will not move us into the future, as he is not innovative. Just look at the Giant Carlisle stores vs the Stop & Shop stores of today. S&S is the strongest it has ever been. That is a direct result of the new life that Jose pumped into it. Like I said...I don't know about this move. I am stunned right now...

I honestly beleive that Ahold has blown it big time Mr Alvarez was good for Giant and SS.He develop a trust and faith that hasn't been at Giant anyway since Izzy died

Jose Alvarez was good for Giant Food.He has help them through the ruff times as U.S Foodservices doormat.He was a man of his word and could be trusted.
