GAO Pegs Top Government Challenges of '09
A Government Accountability Office report on 2009's "high-risk" areas in government. Federal Eye's Ed O'Keefe said the report serves as a "kick in the federal government's pants, reminding all agencies and departments that they need to think seriously about the best ways to get the job done."
The bi-annual report card noted 30 pressing issues the oversight arm of the government intends to watch out for, including three new concerns: the nation's financial regulatory system, including the $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program; the oversight of medical products by the Food and Drug Administration; and the Environmental Protection Agency's assessment and control of toxic chemicals.
