Live from Vegas

I got off a plane here in Sin City earlier today and headed right to the Palms for media day before coming right back to the room here at the MGM grand to write so I haven't picked up any juicky stories. Yet. Just wait. Gilbert was his usual quotable self today and my story in tomorrow's Post will offer some highlights. The good news is that he didn't say anything too wild. He was good Gil today. Caron was pumped up as well. He has 19 family members out here from Racine including Mom and the grandfolks. I'm happy for him. He's had a great season.

I'll be checking back in tomorrow with some sights and sounds from All Star weekend but for now just a few notables:

-Gilbert walked in for media day flanked by Wizards PR man Zach Bolno, his dad and his dad's friend. LeBron James got out of a huge hummer limo and walked into the Palms surrounded by a swarm of uh, fellas. They looked serious and I don't think LeBron was going for the approachable vibe. I thought Julius Ceaser was somewhere in the middle of that gaggle but alas, it was only LeBron.

-I had to do a double take when Boris Becker walked by holding a mic for a German sports station. The guy was my favorite tennis player as a kid but I doubt that any of the All Stars even knew who he is.

-Gilbert's serious about wearing a jersey with "Agent Zero" on the back this Sunday. At least I think he is. Always hard to tell.

-It would be impossible for me to count the number of, uh, ladies hanging around the lobby of this hotel right now and I'm not even going to try. My flight from DC was packed and I think every flight from everywhere else was just as crowded. The place is crawling. If there was ever a time to be 6-foot-11 and wearing a warm-up suit, this is it. I don't even think they care whether or not the dudes play ball. I'll get some good blogging out of this, don't worry.

-As someone mentioned on the blog, I'm not a huge "scene" guy (I'm more of the jeans and t-shirt, corner bar type) so I'm not going to break myself trying to get into all of the hot spots and if I do go, I won't be staying long but I will be doing everything possible to get into Prince's standing show at the Rio. That's my guy from Minnesota and as we all learned on Super Bowl Sunday, he can still bring it.
