Gilbert, a Father

Gilbert Arenas was excused from practice today so he could be in Oakland for the birth of his baby boy, Alijah Amani Arenas. Arenas said he is going to fly back to D.C. on Saturday and should arrive at Verizon Center around 5 p.m., though he was a little...

Butler Out at Least a Week

Wizards forward Caron Butler will be out through the upcoming five-game, seven-day road trip with a left knee contusion. An MRI was negative and there is no structural damage to the knee, which Butler originally hurt last Wednesday at Atlanta. Jarvis Hayes will start tomorrow night against the Hornets...

MVP Is Nash's To Lose

Dirk Nowitzki had better hope he obliterates Steve Nash and the Phoenix Suns when the teams meet again on April 1, because if the league's most valuable player award was decided in head-to-head matchups, Nash stepped front and center as the favorite last night in the Suns' 129-127 double overtime...

Butler update

Caught up with Caron Butler after tonight's win at Indiana and he talked about his decision to pull himself out of the game early in the second quarter. Butler has been bothered by tightness in his left knee since getting kicked just above the knee last Wednesday night at...

Butler: "It's going to be awhile"

I'm sitting courtside here at Conseco Fieldhouse where the Wizards lead 49-46 at halftime. I just saw Caron Butler chat with athletic trainer Eric Waters and Butler mouthed the words: "I'm done." He started on that sore left knee and made 1 of 2 shots with 1 rebound in...

Butler starting, rotation to tighten

I just came back from the lockeroom here at Conseco Fieldhouse (great arena by the way, my favorite in the NBA) and word is that Caron Butler will be in the starting lineup despite that sore left knee that has been bothering him lately. I watched Caron warmup earlier...

On to Indiana

Caron Butler did not practice today but did go through some light shooting drills and will be a game-time decision for tomorrow night's game against the Pacers, a team that is going down faster than the Titanic. Indy plays at Minnesota tonight and needs a win to avoid a...

Dallas' Golden State of Mind

The Dallas Mavericks have been the best team in the league this season, and they can still win 70 games, but they keep saying that they don't care about the regular season; that it doesn't matter unless they can actually win in the NBA Finals. The Mavericks are still haunted...

The Knicks' Low Standards

Who knew significant progress was just six games? If the New York Knicks manage to lose every game for the rest of the season, it still doesn't change the fact that Isiah Thomas was given a contract extension today to be president of basketball operations and coach for an undisclosed...

Two Heartbreakers

I'll be catching the Wiz in about an hour when they get out of practice here in Miami and I'll know then just how devastating this weekend was to their "swag" as Gilbert and DeShawn call it. I do know this: I've been in a lot of losing locker rooms...
