JCN Is OUT

Luis Scola's eye-opening performance for Argentina in the FIBA Americas Championship had many - including myself - second-guessing the San Antonio Spurs for trading him to a division rival for little more than cap space.

But just like the situation with the Wiz kids and Juan Carlos Navarro, it may have been the case that the player's trade value didn't come close to his actual worth. Houston should feel fortunate that it was able to make a deal before the FIBA Americas tournament, because San Antonio surely would've gotten more for Scola, who averaged 19.5 points and 7.5 rebounds and was named MVP.

You won't get the chance to second-guess Ernie Grunfeld for dealing Navarro to Memphis for a first-round pick just yet. The Spanish guard will have to miss at the least the first three games of the European Championships with a muscle tear in his right leg. "This is really a setback, having really worked hard over the past month," Navarro told reporters in Seville. "But I'm not worried. We've got enough players to replace me."

According to the Eurobasket website, Navarro hopes to return to action on Friday.

So far, the reigning world champions haven't needed him much. Spain beat Portugal and Latvia by a combined 42 points in the first two days of action.

As for Wizards forward Darius Songaila, his back has held up through the first two games, as he is averaging 9 points and 4 rebounds for unbeaten Lithuania.

Sangolia going beast out this year

Man if Songaila hurts his back again I will be upset.

Navarro is out a couple days with a muscle "tear"??! Not a pull or a strain? That can't be right.

Back to the Wizards, they should pick up Hassan Adams. He was let go by NJ, and he's a physical and athletic perimeter defender who would be nice off the bench. I'd bring him to camp to compete for that spot with Taylor.

The closer the season is getting, I am getting more psyched about seeing Nick Young with us. I look forward to seeing him come in for Stevenson as the 1st sub, and seeing what he can do with those open looks while he's on the court with the big 3.

I also like what Blatche could bring to the table off the bench at center. With the added depth and youth on our roster, I expect us to run and gun more and take advantage of our speed, and with Ayers I hope we press more on defense and hit teams with alot of full court pressure and steals.

We can score with more variety too which I really like. Songaila, Pesh and Blatche are all big men who can actually shoot. NY1 and DMac can both attack and penetrate. It won't be all Gil, Twan, Caron and Hayes shooting all jump shots all night. When their shots aren't falling, which does happen, we got some other guys who can mix it up a bit.

Posted by: Rook | September 5, 2007 9:48 AM

Darnell, we actually have some guys besides Arenas/Butler/ and Jamison that will be able to finish at the hoop. From what I have seen of DMac he can throw it down going to the rack. And Young is gifted scorer and won't hesitate to go to the rack given the chance.
From the last post, so now we have a 19 yr old, apparently unemployed because he's on here 24/7 that makes the rules?
I thought the Post was supposed to do that, but since they've allowed him to do pretty much what he wants here I guess he figures it's ok for him to tell the rest of us what we can and can't comment on.
All after another one of his weekend vulgarfests. You know he's never seen my wife, but he can't seem to get that Lefty fantasy out of his sick little mind. Is it something about older bald headed men that really turns him on?

Posted by: GM | September 5, 2007 9:59 AM

As much as I like his effort, Songaila is a 9th or 10th man on a good team. He should be the 5th big off the bench after Blatche, McGuire, Pech and Etan and won't be much of a factor for us, in my opinion. It says a lot that McGuire is probably already held in higher regard by the coaching staff. (I say that only because of the Kenyon Martin reference that Jordan made).

"You know he's never seen my wife...Is it something about older bald headed men that really turns him on?

Posted by: GM | September 5, 2007 09:59 AM"

That's gross, I didn't know your wife was an older bald headed man!

Posted by: DC Man88 | September 5, 2007 10:13 AM

All this is just frosting. What it comes down to this coming season for your Wizards, is: Will Gilbert play the all-star level defense his is capable of playing? If so the rest of the team will step up as well...if not, it is another year of round 1 or 2 in the playoffs and gone.

Posted by: oddjob | September 5, 2007 12:33 PM

"He should be the 5th big off the bench after Blatche, McGuire, Pech and Etan and won't be much of a factor for us, in my opinion."

McGuire is by no stretch of the imagination "a big." Blatche barely qualifies. After Jamison (who prefers the 3 pt line) Songaila is the Wiz's best scorer in the post (low and high). He's a very good passer with a nice midrange jumper. Until someone steps up and proves otherwise, he's easily their best scorer off the bench. Not only will he be a factor, he has to be a factor in order for the team to advance.

Posted by: kalorama | September 5, 2007 1:14 PM

Oddjob, there's really not any reason to beleive that Arenas won't improve defensively as our team develops more offensive options.
When he came here and even in his first year here he was regarded as a better defender than scorer. I'm like Darnell in that I'd expect that we may press and pressure the ball more on the perimeter than in the past.

Posted by: GM | September 5, 2007 1:22 PM

88'er, no my wife isn't an old bald headed man, but if it makes your little fantasy better for you go ahead and keep beleiving it. What ever you're into, but this is a basketball site.
There are other sites for people that like to talk about things that most of us here find vulgar. I'd suggest if you want to keep posting here that you spend a little time developing at least a rudimentry knowledge of basketball so that you could converse with others and not make a fool of yourself nearly as often.
Then maybe you could talk about basketball instead of ranting about how you're always right about every thing. It's been pretty clear that your understanding of the game doesn't even reach that of the most casual of fans.
And it won't until you read other's posts and try and understand their points of veiw and then think about the fact that there are different approaches to the game before you respond with another single minded rant about how wrong they are.
One very simple point, you constantly hold Arenas up to Jason Kidd for comparison. Fair enough, but Arenas is more of a combo point guard as compared to Kidd's style. But, is Kidd's style of play a quarentee of a title? How many has Jason won?
Billups is a guard that is more similar to Arenas, many thought he wasn't really capable of playing point at all and should move to the two, sound familar? But Billups has point gaurded for one of the top teams in the East and he has a ring to show for it.
Who's better, Billups or Kidd, I can't really say. But what I can tell you is that no one can be the best they can be trying to copy some one else. That's advice that goes further than the court. Think about it my young friend before you fire off another typical smart assed response.
If you'd allow yourself a chance to do it you could learn alot about basketball from reading and posting on this site. But it does reguire treating the other posters with an ounce of respect. Just food for thought, what you do with it is up to you.

Posted by: GM | September 5, 2007 2:01 PM

GM-
Stop feeding the animals. You're just as big a problem as he is.

Posted by: Joe | September 5, 2007 2:21 PM

GM needs to get off his high horse and stop convincing himself that he's the all knowledgeable about basketball. I've told you a long time ago that if you would stop with your not so subtle jabs at me, then you wouldn't have to worry about me responding to them. You and your bald "wife" need to take his/her wig on a long vacation and chill until the NBA season starts.

Posted by: DC Man88 | September 5, 2007 3:11 PM

There's people on this site that are far smarter about basketball than me. And I enjoy reading their posts, and I am just smart enough to try and learn something when I can. I also enjoy posts by even the most casual fan if they're here because they like basketball.
88 your response was about what I expected, if you'd stop bullying eveyone on the site maybe you wouldn't have so many posters taking jabs at you cause it sure isn't me that's been dogging you on here without leaving their name. In fact it appears quite a few have banded together on that effort. Me I just come out and tell you when you're being a bully.
But it's always somebody else's fault, typical.

Posted by: GM | September 5, 2007 4:21 PM

That idiot is not bullying everyone, just u fools that respond to her. He clearly is jealous of Arenas and I suspect she feels she is better than him for whatever unfounded reason. That's his problem, let her live in her misery!

Posted by: Anonymous | September 5, 2007 4:55 PM

I agree with Kalorama. Darius has a nice mid-range shot and is a little above average of a passer for his size. I realize that this comparison is a long stretch but watching him last year I always thought of him as a poor man's Chris Webber. Songaila played very well in the second half of the season. Hopefully, with Eurobasket, he wont get injured and will continue his consistent play this season.

Posted by: David | September 5, 2007 5:37 PM

so how do you guys feek the wiz will do this year

Posted by: get back to the wiz please | September 5, 2007 5:53 PM

with a little confidence Darius could be a decent go to guy inside. He has shown a nice arsenal of post moves, just maybe he doesn't beleive in himself that much. His numbers really don't change much wherever he plays. But he is still young and really hasn't played with and great post players

Posted by: jcrock | September 5, 2007 5:58 PM

"I realize that this comparison is a long stretch but watching him last year I always thought of him as a poor man's Chris Webber."

That is a stretch. I would liken him more to a better passing, better outside shooting version of Corliss Williamson when he was with Detroit (of course, Corliss never passed the ball and had no range, so maybe that's not saying much). He's an undersized PF who can make up for his lack of size with shooting and quickness against bigger players, and batter smaller players with his strength.

If he's healthy, he should play a significant role for Washington off the bench.

Posted by: kalorama | September 5, 2007 6:00 PM

i think the wiz could get to Eastern conference finals cuz they have the talent, but they have to
1. gel
2. get rid of the injury bug
3. take a lead and stick it next year (division)

GM and his girls once again show their warped sense of reality. If you like Gilby, good for you. I'll continue to provide my unbiased opinion of Les BouleS matters. If you think I'm trying to be bully, oh well....

Posted by: DC Man88 | September 5, 2007 7:24 PM

the big test for the wiz will come with our first regular season game when we play the well hyped boston celtics...

Posted by: WizKid17 | September 5, 2007 7:33 PM

"i think the wiz could get to Eastern conference finals cuz they have the talent"

Based on depth and talent, I'm not so sure our Wiz team will make it that far this year. We're essentially relying on health and our only upgrades roster-wise this year are a young and unproven bench. Pech, McGuire, Young, and Blatche certainly all have great potential to be solid contributors maybe even all-stars one day but for this upcoming season I'll hold a little bit of reservation.

But hey, hopefully I'm wrong. We all know the playoffs are about matchups anyways so if we get the right teams...

Posted by: David | September 5, 2007 8:46 PM

Besides having stars, the most important thing for a team is chemistry. Look at the Spurs. There are no huge egos on that team. Ginobli is willing to come off the bench and do whatever it takes to help the team.

On Les BouleS, there's tons of talent, but the big question mark is chemistry. I see Les BouleS dominating the bad teams easily, but having a tougher time against teams that have their act together.

I'd venture to say that some on the team probably think EJ will be fired this season. Based on that, why give in to his demands on sticking to the Princeton, or be an obedient player and deal with his weird substitution patterns?

This season will determine if Les BouleS will progress or regress, b/c after this season, the entire makeup of the team could change.

Posted by: DC Man88 | September 5, 2007 8:53 PM

Since everyone else has seemingly weighed in on this: I think the Wizards can win 50 games and go at least as far at the Eastern Conference finals in the playoffs this year, if their main players stay reasonably healthy.

Since their front line will be playing together another year, I think they will have good chemistry and play even better together. I expect each of the big three, individually, will have improved their games in some way from last year, because I know they are working hard from past history (and reports I have heard).

The big question, again, will be their bench. As I have posted before, I do not see how it can be any worse than it was last year. The question is how soon will it be before Pech, McGuire and Young can make consistent contributions? At a minimum we should have an improved Song and Blatche, with AD providing veteran experience when the youngsters are on the court.

P.S. I might add that McGuire has to be better already than the departed Ruffin and Young can't be any worse than Hayes was last year.

Posted by: Tim | September 5, 2007 9:49 PM

Obviously the Big 3 can score with any threesome in the league. On the other hand, I don't feel the supporting cast has been upgraded enough to make the Wiz contenders. And another concern is injuries to the Big 3 since Gil, Caron and AJ are all smallish for their positions.

I thought I had seen everything when people here were comparing AB to KG. But now it's been topped: DSong is being compared to CWebb. Come on folks, get real!! No knock on Darius, but CWebb in his prime had a phenomenal combination of speed and power (for his position, of course). Just which of those qualities does Darius have in abundance?

Posted by: Mitch | September 5, 2007 11:39 PM

"P.S. I might add that McGuire has to be better already than the departed Ruffin and Young can't be any worse than Hayes was last year."

Tim, good point.

David, Darius reminds you of Chris Webber?! What??! That is hilarious!!

I gotta question for everyone. DOES ANYBODY REALLY CARE ABOUT THIS STUPID FIBA BS!!?? As far as interesting basketball, it's behind the NBA and college (regular season, not even talking playoffs or tourney), and ahead of the Dleague. All the press about this lame EXIBITION is unbelievable. All these reporters and writers going on and on about it! I don't think the average NBA could care less. We know US basketball is the best, no matter what happens in this sorry attempt to popularize the game in other countries. Who cares??! IMO we shouldn't be wasting our breath or our talent on this garbage. At most we should be sending our McDonald's HS All-Stars to represent us, or better yet The Harlem Globetrotters!!

I am so glad Gilbert or Antawn is not there. And if Songaila hurts his back again I will be so furious I might break something in my house I really like and wish I hadn't!!

Posted by: Darnell | September 5, 2007 11:58 PM

Arenas is hardly small (even ish) for an NBA PG. He's the same size (or bigger) than Kidd, Billups, and Baron Davis, who are among the biggest and strongest players at the positions.

At 6" 7', Caron may be at the shorter end of the spectrum for starting SFs (although he's hardly the smallest guy at the position), but at about a solid 230 lbs he's plenty strong enough.

Posted by: kalorama | September 6, 2007 12:05 AM

first of all I am A big wizards fan. I like the direction the Wiz are going in the future and into the upcoming season. I really like the three rookies the wizards got from the draft in Young, Pech and McGuire. Young will be a great guy coming off the bench both scoring and playing much important defense, something the wizards at many points of the season did not have. Pech will give the Wiz even more firepower on the perimeter and help with much needed rebounding on both sides. McGuire will hopefully improve the wizards defense dramatically along with great rebounding like he did in college along with extra scoring power possibly more than what Jared Jefferies provided in my. opinion. I am glad that the wizards traded JCN because the wizards have plenty of scoring plus ive heard that he is not a great defender so getting a first round pick for him is a great move by Grunfeild. I watched nearly every game last season and I repeatedly saw the two greatest weaknesses of the wizards last season which was getting defensive rebounding and defending the three. If the wiz improve those two areas in any way the wiz will immediately be much better and win a lot more games. It would have been nice if the wiz could have added another solid veteran like a Ruben Patterson to bolster the defense and add even more rebounding but I understand completely that Grunfeld needs to do what ever it takes to resign Arenas because it could be devastating if they don't. It is very annoying that no one is talking about the wiz for the upcoming season but think the wizards will surprise a lot of people next season and possibly go to either the eastern conference finals or the NBA finals depending if the wiz can stay healthy especially the big three of Arenas, Butler, And Jamison. Even last season if the wiz would have stayed mostly healthy they would have for sure gotten 50+ wins and have made it to likely the second round

Here's more proof that dcBOY88 is actually the Wizards- and Gil-hating Clewiston88 from the ESPN Wizards board. Clewiston88, aka ClueLessOne, also misused the word "regardless" by attempting to use the non-word "irregardless."

Both dcBOY88 and Clewiston88 also insult other posters by calling them "old," etc.

They both have "88" in their screen names.

They both hate Gil.

They both hate the Wizards.

They both criticize the team's defense.

They both insist that they will continue to criticize Gil and the Wizards no matter how many people ask him to stop or ask that they be banned.

There is no question that dcBOY88 and Clewiston88 are the same person. How miserable an existence that must be, all pimply faced, weak, and full of hate.

I'm a first-time Poster here.
have been a Bullets/Wizards fan beginning in 1969. In reading some of your comments
it seems clear to me that I will have to develope some thick skin real quickly.
In response to DCman88's comment ref: EJ's job security, and quirky rotation. In am in agreement. I really liked him in his role much better as an assistant coach. Where he was truly effective and successful. I just don't think that he has a strong enough resolve to be an NBA head coach.
It just appears to me that he really doesn't seem to have much control over the squad in general. He preaches a good game. And he's really a good guy, good P.R., camera friendly, says all the right things. Just what ole' Abe likes.
But the preaching from the good book of defense, rarely ever manifests itself on the court. And why why why is Donnell Taylor still on this roster??
Y'know I actually believe that our wonderful G.M. Ernie will make a coaching move this year. He never really wanted Jordan as the head coach in the first place.
And coupled with the recent things that have transpired ie: Hiring of Randy Ayers & Tapscott, the limiting of ED's grossly benign coaching staff from last year. Only to a one year extension, Sort of smells of change in the air. FRESH Air. Couple other comments, I think we missed a golden opportunity to trade our OTHER, "D"fense-less liability, AJ this summer. Just cringe everytime I watch this guy try to play defense. Running alongside of his apponant slapping at the ball.
Imagine that, a three point shooting Power Forward, who plays no "D", incredible.
And has anyone yet addressed the Brendan Haywood issue? But speaking of the three point line. I watched the Summer leauge games with our Rookies and free agents.McGuire is a potential BEAST!!!
Butit seems that our last years No#1 also loves the 3'Point line, just like AJ. My question is, Is THIS what we really need this guy to do?
We are truly Top Heavy with Shooters already. A Tougher low Post presence and stronger rebounding seems more of what is required from us at this time to maybe get past the first round.
And finally; I love Gilbert. His offense and energy are electrifying. But if he is to move up to the next level from "Stardom" to "SUPERSTARDOM" He also needs to play some damned "D"
I recall last year, when we suffered some injuries and ED indicated in the media that more time would be spent on defense. Do any of you remember what Gilbert's response was.It was embassasing to say the least. He all but dismissed the notion of making a greater effort in the area of defense. And can anyone tell me why the hell is Donnell Taylor STILL on this roster? To say the least, it wasn't about urging the team to play any LOCK-down defense. And our head coach seemed to allow that comment to go out unchallenged, and as all could see once again on the court, the results appeared to be unchanged. THIS year Caron Butler should be team Captain. AJ says all of the right stuff, camera friendly, wonderful demeanor. A Jordan carbon copy...God Bless em.
But we need a strong voice who has all of those other qualities, who plays BOTH ends of the court, and is not afraid to mix it up. Sounds like "Tough Juice" to me. We'll see though. And why is Donnell Taylor ON THIS SQUAD?
Well, I guess I'll stop now. And I'm wondering if I've made an enemies today.
But thats my story, and I'm stickin' to it!

Posted by: Timothy Cotton | September 6, 2007 7:40 AM

Timothy, I don't know why Donnell is still on the squad either. Good kid but he isn't a point guard.

AJ is here because his offense hurts the opposing team more than his defense hurts ours.

Posted by: Mitch | September 6, 2007 9:42 AM

twan definitely plays poor poor defense, but he can ball and even his defense improves in the heat of the moment, I do think he should be moved soon(next year) but he balled in the playoffs, when we had no hope, he did, personally I thought that performance was amazing. It just goes to show if you have a player who cant play good defense on every play but can score 50 when you need it, keep him or get fair value, with twans age fair value is not asy to get at this point.
Gilbert is what im worried about, I just hope he comes back full strength, hopefully his jaunts at barry farms will accelerate the inevitable reluctance to truly play free without worrying about the knee. From the videos ive seen he looks pretty pedestrian right now, so I pray gil can come back the same player. If he can hold up we will be a better team, the only thing holding us back would be some of the ignorant rotations that are beloved coach has put forth in the past. I truly like eddie as our head coach, if he can grow up a bit and embrace his roal as head coach, fueds with players that result in players like haywood and blatche not playing in obvious situations where there presence is needed asap is inexcusable, we want wins not sideline lessons of civil obedience. Other than that I think eddie can be great but that is no small issue apparently, since it has not been resolved this long.
lastly nick young looked like some shiggidy to me in summer league. he plays too loose in the open court, has no body to be anywhere near the box, and dissapears for long spells, he does have upside just not not as much as I was expecting, especially ballhandling wise.
until next time, be good posters !

Udonis Haslem would disagree.

Obviously someone on this blog loves to give me attention. That is so great!

Posted by: DC Man88 | September 6, 2007 12:20 PM

"Udonis Haslem would disagree"

Hilarious!

I hate the way Antawn will yell and makes this face like he's all fired up during a game after he makes a play. It makes a great photo op, and makes him look all fired up like he's some intense physical player. But he does it when the play is over and done. He'll clinch his fists and arms and yell with this like angry face. Like he's trying to psych everyone up or something. But it's like he does this little show to make up for the fact he is usuall so mild manored. I wish he would actually play they way he does this display of his. He plays the opposite of physical or angry, he gets out of the way, offers no contact. He plays like he is so concerned to get a foul, or touch somebody. It just annoys me cause whenever I see a picture of Antawn on the Wiz site or something, it's him yelling like he's all intense, when he doesn't play like that AT ALL. And you look at him, that dude is built! There is no reason for it, not like he's some skinny weakling. With his athleticism and strength, the way he plays the game is pathetic IMO.

Posted by: Darnell | September 6, 2007 3:46 PM

Another thing annoying about AJ is that instead of going to the hole strong and drawing a foul, he's mastered the ability to make strange layups. I don't think he likes contact.

Posted by: DC Man88 | September 6, 2007 4:22 PM

I don't believe Donnell Taylor is officially on the squad. He has been invited to camp to compete for a spot. Whether he makes the team this year is not yet certain.

Posted by: Tim | September 6, 2007 4:43 PM

Tim C ... I don't know why Donnell Taylor is still around. I think the team overall is about a 45 win team. Wiz didn't really improve anything over the summer. I just don't think you can rely on rookies. Our best shot at something very good right off the bat is probably Pech. From how he looked in summer league, I don't see Nick doing much the 1st half of the season, probably not the 2nd half either. Maybe something from DMac ... but if he is Ruffin's replacement, then rookie or not, that's a big improvement. Did I mention that I did not know why Donnell Taylor is still on the team? Every year, cyber analyst rave about how great draft picks are ... then the year starts and most warm the bench the whole year. I think EJ is OK as a coach. He's better than anyone the Wiz have had in a long time. I think he does OK with the personnel that he has. I also think Ernie is just OK. He hasn't addressed many problems the Wiz have had since he arrived here. I give him credit, that he, also, is the best the wiz have had in a long time, but still has issues that he needs to solve before he gets A's and B's from me. Whats up with the Haywood - Etan saga. That should have never made it back to this season. Its only been going on for 2 years. Oh ... and I don't know why Donnell Taylor is still around.

Posted by: luv the wiz | September 6, 2007 5:30 PM

What did Donnell Taylor do to receive all of this hate today? He may not be superstar material like Gilbert but he does a good job of coming in the game late. hopefully he is practicing hard in the offseason and will earn a spot on the team again.

Posted by: Hater Nation | September 6, 2007 6:15 PM

In response to, "luvthewiz." I'll say that we have toyed with the mid fourties for the last couple of years. And it has become quite obvious that this team now has a real identity. And are ever building toward greater success.
And perhaps fourty-five games is maybe not such a stretch beyond believability.
But I think that we should also remember that the Eastern conference got a bit stronger on draft day.
Due to players moving from team to team.
Look at the Celtics for starters. The draft and the players that they acquired
just may have saved Danny Ainge's career,
And ditto for "Zeke" in the Big Apple.
As for our cituation here; it appears to me that our moves have largely been marginal. The jury is still out on our last years pick. From that which I observed in summer leauge play. It seems that he still needs to bulk-up some more.
Surprizingly, the team says that he gained
a lot of mustle and strength for the coming season.
I just simply can't see it. He still looks real thin to me.
It is also said that he is a fantastic rebounder. nor did I see this in the summer games that I watched. And remember THIS WAS, just summer leauge. Sure wouldn't
want to see him get eaten alive this season. Seems that he's really in love with that jump shot though.
As for Nick Young, I must say that I wasn't that impressed...YET.
But it really appears that they may have found a real gem in Dominique McGuire.
Let's just hope that he doesn't languish on Eddie Jordan's bench in the same manner in which Andray Blatche has. I'm believing that Andray could have made a much greater contribution to our overall effort at the end of the season and perhaps in round one of the "Offs" had he been given about 10 minutes a game last season.
But Mr. Jordan just continued to wear out his trio of horses to the tune of fourty three to fourty six minutes a game.
Well, that BIG THREE looked real good in the press guide. The threesome leading the leauge in scoring and minutes played.
It truly raised some interest. Got Eddie Jordan his Head Coaches seat at the All-Star game didn't it? FOOL'S GOLD!!!!
By the time part two of the season began, the big three was suffering from big fatigue. And as generally as it will. They eventually paid a price for those heavy minutes that they logged. Thus the injury bug to the biggest two of the three.
No small wonder that the one still standing was the one, (Jamison) who plays with the least amount of contact.
And we struggled just to achieve a .500 season. Frankly, I believe that EJ should coach the All-Star game each year. We all know that there isn't any "D" being played during the All-Star game. And Eddie doesn't coach defense anyway. I dunno, sounds like a match made in heaven...to me.
One final word about this "BIG THREE"
When will EJ realize that aside from risking injury through fatigue for playing that many minutes per game. That playing Gil,"Tough Juice" and Jamison for those long stretches. Will only result in the lack of a real effective and cohesive bench rotation, same as the last four years that he has been at the helm.
Makes me wish that Doug Collins had really had an opportunity to coach this team, rather than having to watch MJ do it and loose his job for him.
O.K., there, I've said it. Now i'll sit here and brace myself the the response.

P.S. Can ANYBODY say why Donnell Taylor isn't selling cars, BY NOW???!!

Posted by: Timothy Cotton | September 6, 2007 6:48 PM

Ref: Post by Hater Nation regarding why is
Donnell Taylor receiving so much hate mail today?
Partner, I really don't mean to be cruel to the guy, but gracious this IS Basketball, not Soup Kitchen Nerf ball.
And for all of his size and quickness.
He turns the ball over far too often, His ball handling is real questionable.
His shooting is laughable. And his defense seems to be about equal to that of the rest of the team.
Actually if you remember, at the beginning of last season.
Just after training camp, in fact. The team reported that,
Donnell taylor had had a terrible training camp. Not my words my Friend. This was reported by the Beat writer to the washington Post.
So I ask. Why then, and why now is this guy on the Team? Especially now. Though neither player could help us, all things being equal. I would have opted to keep Jarvis Hayes...and I didn't like him either!

I am an attention cynosure who uses this messageboard as a high in my pathetic life. No matter if it is bad attention...attention is attention!! I feel better when people respond to my posts after I bait them in by my hate comments to the Wizards. I do this because my life sucks. :-( I need use attention on message boards to make up for this sad fact. Little do you know that if everyone quits responding to me, I would not get the high anymore and do something else to satisfy my pathetic life.

I had to speak the truth. Now I will put on a facade as a hater again and continue to be the cynosure to pass my time. Especially keep mentioning my name on your posts. It gives me an uplifting feeling like kissing a girl for the first time. I have never done it, but the feeling is probably similar.

Posted by: DC Man88 | September 6, 2007 9:46 PM

Great job posting using my name!

You're the pathetic one who loves to hate me. I'll keep offering up my critique of Gilby, so that you'll continue to suffer and do the things you do.

Sucks to be you.

Posted by: DC Man88 | September 6, 2007 10:06 PM

PS. Ain't the name "Gilby" catchy?

Posted by: DC Man88 | September 6, 2007 12:24 PM

No ... the name "Gilby" doesn't seem catchy to me. I've seen two people use it to refer to Gilbert ... you and someone replying to your post. Agent Zero ... now that's catchy ... but it all depends on the person.

Posted by: luv the wiz | September 6, 2007 05:38 PM

The "Agent Zero" moniker should have been retired after he had his "coming out party." When you throw yourself a party to signify to yourself and to tell others that you've arrived, you can't really keep riding that "I'm an unloved, unwanted underdog" angle any more. It's a contradiction, but then again, Gilby is a living contradiction.

Oh yeah guys remember that from now on I will stop being sentimental like I was in my last confessional post. I will also deny it so that my facade of seeking attention is not ruined and I can keep getting my high. I look at this board almost every second in hopes someone would respond to my posts or call me out, just to get the attention and feeling of kissing a girl.

Also I will keep denying that this is really me so you guys do not know my true feelings. You guys love to hate me but really I am a sad case so instead you should feel sorry for me, therefore keep giving me attention by not ignoring me and I feel happier about my pathetic life!!!

OK...remember for every time I post, I look at this board 100x more with the faint hopes someone will give me my high for the day. In fact the last 5 posts have been mine...PLEASE SOMEONE ELSE WRITE SOMETHING ADDRESSING MY NAME!!! I plan to live the rest of my life like this. Oh yeah back to the facade in desperate hopes of attention so...

And...

GILBY SUCKS!!!

(More to come including much strategic denial)

DCMan, there's plenty to criticize about Gilbert. But there's plenty to criticize about anybody. Who in this world isn't a hypocrite?

I still think you're overly harsh about Gilbert. Why is it a contradiction to throw yourself an "I've arrived" birthday party while still using the moniker that marks your unglamorous beginnings? If you're someone who's pulled yourself up by your bootstraps you'll always try to keep some of that close at hand, maybe out of pride at your accomplishments, maybe to hang on to your humility. Either way it's not a contradiction.

And aren't you the one who preaches keeping the commentary about basketball? What does Gilbert's birthday party have to do with his on-court performance? So let's get back to basketball: are you able to admit that Gilbert Arenas is one of the best offensive guards in the league?

Posted by: Prazak | September 6, 2007 10:41 PM

Tim Cotton, I agree with a lot of what you said in your next-to-last post. I wasn't impressed by Nick Young and also feel that the FO moves in this off-season were marginal. And the jury's out on Pech as far as I'm concerned.

But as to the Big Three, the thing to keep in mind is that the NBA is all about winning games and the Big Three are talent and production-wise on a completely different level from the rest of the team. So if EJ wants to win games he needs to give them as much PT as they can handle.

Posted by: Mitch | September 6, 2007 10:57 PM

What is really laughable is that DC88 actually calls himself "DCMan88" when he is still a flippin' teenager - and a twisted one at that.

Posted by: Laughable | September 6, 2007 11:57 PM

Actually I AM a man. I just have a pathetic life.

Posted by: DC Man88 | September 7, 2007 1:42 AM

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

I will continue to do what I do, and you can continue to use my name and make comments. It's actually kind of funny. If I'm supposed to be a 19 year old with no life, what does that make you in how you spend your precious time following me around? C'mon now!

Prazak, I talked about Gilby's tired moniker in response to someone's question to me.

Posted by: DC Man88 | September 7, 2007 7:54 AM

Nick Young will be an upgrade over Hayes eventually, he's a gifted offensive player, but he's got work to do defensively.
TMac and Pecherov will get more early playing time because they're more NBA ready defensively, but Young could eventually big the bigger star. The kid just looks gifted and explosive offensively.

Posted by: GM | September 7, 2007 7:56 AM

Again, if all of you stop responding to me, I'll get off this board and go elsewhere. How simple is that?

Posted by: DC Man88 | September 7, 2007 8:35 AM

That wasn't me, this is me but it that last post is true, don't acknowledge me, don't mention me in your responses and I'll eventually realize no one likes me and I'll leave.

Falls Church, Va.: My sister ate one table over from Gilbert Arenas the other day. They were at Roy's in Baltimore. She said he was dressed casually and seemed to think he was on a first date.

Roxanne Roberts: Perhaps she saw him out with longtime girlfriend Laura, mother of his two children? Hope so.

They've Got Game -- and Tapas, Too

By Tim Warren
Sunday, September 9, 2007; Page B02

GRANADA, Spain I couldn't get to sleep last Monday night. It was partly the late-summer-evening ambience of this graceful old city, where locals and tourists linger in the outdoor cafes over platefuls of tapas and a couple of cold cervezas, enjoying good companionship and the soft breezes that blow in from the Sierra Nevada mountains.

But mostly what kept me awake was the memory of the thousands of Greek fans who'd filled the Palacio de Deportes hours earlier on the opening day of Eurobasket, the biennial European basketball championships. For two hours, they'd put heart and soul into urging on their home team.........

Great, now DC woMan88 (Clewiston88) has gone back to the ESPN Wizards board to torment everyone there.

She/he had not posted on ESPN in weeks, then she showed up as soon as he stopped posting here. It's so obvious they are the same person, even though she denies it.

Posted by: Anonymous | September 10, 2007 12:54 AM

With apologies to those who read/post on the ESPN Wizards Board, I hope that 88er will stay there -- and away from here so that we can concentrate on hoops at not on him/her!

Posted by: Anonymous | September 10, 2007 10:07 AM

You must be very ignorant on top of being retarded. There hasn't been a posting here b/c Ivan went on a vacation and there's nothing going on in the NBA.

Again retard, I don't know who you are associating me with on that blog, but I do not post on the ESPN blog. I hope you're not stupid enough to get on that blog and accuse that person of being me on this blog too, b/c that will make two different people who think you are a total retard.

Even if I was that person, who gives a sh!t? What does my association with that person have to do with anything!

Posted by: DC Man88 | September 10, 2007 10:21 AM

Uh, this is tormenting...too many people with too many psychological problems...

wiz basketball where are you..

The Tim Warren story points out two of the big problems with the NBA. Players that have come into the league too young and relying on pure talent. And too long of a season and a long stretched out playoff system.
When teams that go deep into the playoffs can play 100+ games it's hard to expect players or fans to treat a tuesday night game in Feb. like a life and death situation.
Combined with young players that have grown up playing for themselves, bouncing from one high school to the next. And in some cases having advisors that broker them from one summer league team to another or position them in the camp that's sponsored by the shoe company that's going to line somebody's pockets.
The High School system is gotten kind of warped with prep schools sniffing out and recuiting younger and younger talent and it's now become commomplace for players to have played at two, three, or more high schools or prep schools in their career.
Top talent had been skipping College all together or most are now one and done before jumping to the Pro's. Contrast that with the Euro club system where young players are virtually owned by their teams through their development process.
Not only do their players spend more time working on fundamentals they have to be coachable because if they aeren't they're just buried by the team. You don't get many second chances if you're a head case. Our players might be more creative and have always expanded the game because they have so much court time to just be out there trying to catch a recuiter's eye. But in Europe they've been drilled in the skills for years.
USA Basketball has tried to tackle some of these problems, but it took generations for them to evolve and there are no quick fixes. At the NBA level there's been talk for years of reducing the number of games and compressing the playoff schedule more, but both would reduce income. Neither the players or the owners are going to be quick to reduce income.
I may just be a silly old fart, but I for one yearn for the days when in the NBA they just rolled out a rack of balls warmed up and played a game like they used to do in the old Boston Garden.
Just plain good basketball packed the house and built
this league that is the cash cow that many that play in or watch don't fully appreciate.
At what ever level it's played good competitive basketball where the outcome of the game means something packs in the fans, what else would explain March Madness?

Looks like DC woMan88 /Clewiston88 /CluelessOne is a split personality type. They/he/she/it have one thing in common, besides being the same person, and that is they (he/she/it) all hate Gil and the Wizards.

For benefit of those who haven't been following the FIBA European Championships, D-Song dropped 17 & 7 on France yesterday helping Lithuania stay undefeated. Let's hope he uses the tournament to get back in shape and that his back holds up OK.
