Wizards Insider: October 7, 2007 - October 13, 2007

Game update

It's halftime here at the Patriot Center and it's tied 42-42. Dallas is playing without several key players including Dirk Nowitzki, Jerry Stackhouse, Erick Dampier, Jason Terry and Devean George. The Wizards started the normal five and have everyone available. Brendan Haywood, who was matched up against DeSagana Diop,...

George Mason Wizards

I haven't been inside the Patriot Center since I briefly covered George Mason during my first winter in the district (2005). Of course, that was one year BEFORE Jim Larranaga's squad shocked the hoops world by making it to the Final Four. Can't say I saw it coming either....

Etan update II

Etan Thomas underwent successful surgery yesterday morning at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Mn., and is still recovering, according to Dr. Hartzell Schaff, the surgeon who performed the four-hour procedure. According to Schaff, Thomas had a congenital condition that led to a leakage in the aortic valve and required...

Checking in

If you read my story in today's paper you know that Etan Thomas underwent surgery yesterday morning at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Mn and is in the process of recovering. Neither the doctors nor the team provided detail about the procedure last night because Thomas had yet to...

Kobe Bryant Is Not Untouchable

So, the great mystery of the summer has been solved: Kobe Bryant still wants to be traded. His "trade me/don't trade me" demand from the Los Angeles Lakers left many wondering exactly where his head was - and his refusal to address the issue while training with the U.S. Men's...

Etan update

I spoke with a cardiac specialist with a background in aortic valve surgery and wrote about it in detail for tomorrow's paper. While the specialist (Dr. Ammar Bofi of the Washington Hospital Center) didn't want to get into too much detail about Etan Thomas is facing because he doesn't...

Thomas to Undergo Aortic Valve Surgery

The Wizards announced a short while ago that Etan Thomas will undergo surgery to repair a leak of the aortic valve in his heart tomorrow. The situation is not thought to be life threatening and neither Thomas nor the team has discussed his basketball future. The team said it...

A solid start

It would be foolish to get overly worked up over a preseason game but Wiz fans should feel good about tonight's 81-62 win here in Cleveland. The Cavs shot 30.6 percent (yes, they missed some open looks but the Wiz were active in closing out on shooters, generally closed...

Arenas will start

I just got back from the lockeroom where Gilbert Arenas was in uniform, with his head phones on and looking like he's ready to play some ball. Arenas said he'll start and wants to come out playing hard. Coach Eddie Jordan said Arenas will play most of the first...

Heading to Cleveland

Is it just me or do the Wizards play the Cavaliers 20 times a season? The team is flying to C town this afternoon and I'm heading out in the morning. The main thing to watch tomorrow will be Gilbert Arenas but when I talked to him yesterday, he...
