Live from Philly

The Wizards put a real beating on the Sixers at VC back on Nov. 20 so you would expect to see Philly come out with some real energy. Philly (4-10) is coming off a home loss to Utah on Wednesday night but has been playing better ball since the 116-101 loss in DC. Also, the team got a boost by the return of three-point ace Kyle Korver.

Not a lot to update from the lockeroom this evening but I did catch a glimpse of Andray Blatche and rookies Nick Young and Dominic McGuire as they rolled in. They were wearing, and I swear this is true, matching Dickies pants and shirt combinations, you know, the kind you used to see cats wear in NWA and DOC videos back in the early 90's.

I asked Roger Mason about this and he just shook his head: "Man, I don't have anything to do with that."

Andray on the attire:: "You've heard of the big three? Well, we're the future 3." Oleksiy Pecherov isn't with the team on this trip as he continues to rehab from that ankle injury but if we see him walking around in a similar outfit, things will get really funny. Something tells me that Agent Steinberg is going to love December with all the home games coming up. Lots of blogging material, even without Gilbert around.

On a serious note, I've noticed and folks with the team have confirmed that Andray is carrying himself in a real solid manner this season. He's working hard in practice, taking care of his body and generally approaching the job like a vet. The other night in Memphis, I saw him walk into the lockeroom about an hour and a half before the game and encouraged McGuire to join him for a weight room session.

Needless to say, "The Future 3" will be huge factors as this season rolls along and so far, it appears that all three of them are coming along at a good pace.

The young kids are really bringing a lot of energy to this team, on the floor and off. Nick really is a cut up. I don't recall the name but a fairly well known sports reporter was asked about NY before pre-season began. He said he knew Nick pretty well from USC and that he was one of the most charasmatic personalities he had ever encounted. He went on to compare him with a young Muhammed Ali in that respect.

I don't have the pleasure of knowing NY, but just from the videos with DMac I really like the guy. Hope all those guys continue to have fun here for a very long time.

This place is as dead as any arena I've been in. Someone coughed in the section on the other side of the court from where I am sitting and I heard it.

Ivan,
That sucks, lot of scar tissue from Iverson's departure. I am just getting radio and it sounds like a morgue. Take care.

Wow, that's really encouraging news about Andray Blatche. Let's hope that the lessons that he has learned rub off on Nick Young and D-Mac from the start.

The team came out flat from the very start and stayed pretty flat up until the very end.

Eddie waited too long (down 11) to bring some firepower off the bench. I don't think a win was meant to be tonight, but when the team is flat, the coach needs to make the right adjustment.

Conversely, when the Wiz are getting hosed, there are some decent defensive alignments that can be used.

For time being, they just need some home juice at the Verizon center. No excuses.

Wiz let this one get away. DS did not play very good at all and I am suprised that CB did not hold the ball and take the last shot. Can't fault NY for the shot, he had to take it.

Just wanted to pass along that I had the opportunity to play bball with Sean Taylor last April. He played on my team for a league game at my gym. He was an awesome hooper. Outside shot, inside game and great defense. He was all over the court. When the word got out that he was playing, the gym got packed with people watching. He was humble, but very competitive and supportive. He had never met any of us before. We were down at the half and he said, hang in there guys. We ended up winning 88-86. At the end of the game, he slapped hands with us, said great game and left. I told him that I really enjoyed watching the way he played safety and he just got this big smile and said thanks. It was my bball thrill to play with him. Even though it was for one game, he was my teammate and I am sick about what happened.

Rest in peace ST.

I just read the recap and my question for everyone that saw the game (because I didn't) was it a good play or a screwup that Nick Young took a 26-footer in the final moments?

nick had a decent shot at the end. Jamison maybe shot 1 shot in the lane everthing else was forced outside shots. He needs to post up more. eddie Jordan flat out sucks. He just lets AJ shoot where ever he wants. Smallball a lot in this game. Help us coaching God!!!!!

Great story.

It's just too bad none of this came out while he was alive, so we wouldn't have to hear all this negativity about him after his death.

To Section101 - great story. I know you will cherish that day. We will all miss him.

NY had a wide open jumper, and until that point, he had missed only two shots the entire night. The only thing is we did not need a 3 pointer to win. He had enough time and was open to step in 2 steps and take an easier shot.

He just missed it. It was a very good look. It shows he is not afraid to take the last shot. He is going to be awsome.

The team was flat in the 1st and 3rd quarters. Eventhough Jamison was missing a lot of shots, when he was out of the game, no one else was scoring.

Caron got started late. The wiz had trouble with the press, and Daniels was in early foul trouble.

I didn't see a lot of small ball. Andre was in the game most of the time when Brendan was not. Andre was playing very well, but didn't take a lot of shots. Brendan played very well when he came back into the game, but before that, Andre was playing better. Songalia played very well when he was in the game.

Everyone got what they wanted in this game, no Roger Mason, which was suprising considering the foul trouble with Daniels. DS did a fairly good job of running the offense, but he did not shoot well. If you don't harp on his shooting, he had a very good game. Its funny how a lot of folks on this site trash Eddie and/or the wiz about offense vs defense, yet when a player like DS has a bad offensive night, but otherwise shines and stands out (defensively and running team on offense), he still gets trashed about not being able to shoot.

Other than a bad first period. The wiz kept the game at 2 points the entire time until about 5 minutes before the end. They let the 76'ers get up by about 7 points, and had to work extremely hard to get it back to one with under a minute remaining. Nick just missed. It happens. Good, open shot.

Last thing ... I hate these long posts, don't you. Will try to stay away from them.
