Cassell Is Free, Set to Join Boston Three?
Sam Cassell finally got his release from the Los Angeles Clippers, making him a free agent when he clears waivers. The 38-year-old veteran has been pushing for a buyout for some time. His agent, David Falk, was in town last weekend to negotiate a deal and set a deadline of Saturday to get something done. Now it looks like he has a clear path to Boston, where the Celtics have already added P.J. Brown to bolster its front line. Old guys rule.
"After weighing all of the options and after conversations with Sam we believe this is the best solution for this team," Vice President of Basketball Operations Elgin Baylor said in a statement. "We know and appreciate the many contributions Sam made during the last three years, and we wish him nothing but the best."
