Jamison honored, injury update

As crazy as it sounds given his amazingly consistent production this season, Antawn Jamison is sometimes overlooked. Not today. The all star forward was named Eastern Conference player of the week. The Wiz went 3-0 and Jamison helped make it happen by averaging 25.3 points, 9.7 rebounds and 1.9 steals. He also drained those three crucial free throws and made three critical three pointers to beat the Clippers Saturday night.

Suns F-C-Man Child Amare Stoudemire earned the honor in the Western Conference.

-Brendan Haywood, who was a late scratch for Saturday's game against the Clippers with knee soreness, went through shootaround today and will play. So did Caron Butler (hip, left wrist) and Antonio Daniels (left wrist). No update yet on Gilbert, who said he was taking an MRI exam on that left knee today.

I know he'll never win it, but Jamison's performance keeping this team afloat this season deserves consideration for MVP.

Posted by: GM | March 17, 2008 2:48 PM

Gotta agree with you on that one. He'll never win it. It's kinda like Adrian Dantley never getting credit for being a great scorer. Workman-like guys that are not flashy don't often get the recognition they deserve. He's been the one constant on the court for us this year.

Thanks for the update, I'll keep checking incase you hear/post anything about Gil's MRI - you know we appreciate it.

And Jamo has been awesome!

Thanks for the info Ivan. Much needed!

Kudos to Jamsion! Well deserved and a little late coming honor. He has carried this team since the end of last season in the playoffs. People can say what they want, but he is the engine that makes this Wizards team roar in more ways then one. Take a bow El Capitwan, job well done! Now, let's scratch out a win tonight! Go Wiz!

Forget AJ, TMac deserves MVP for carrying the team to 21 in a row and counting since Yao went down.

Posted by: DC Man88 | March 17, 2008 3:23 PM

Well deserved PoTW honors for Jamsion, who got kudos around the league last post-season by playing hard throughout despite his team being under-manned.

Posted by: CN | March 17, 2008 3:30 PM

And a bunch of us (my dumb self included) wanted to trade AJ for Randolph or Kirilenko or Jermain O'Neal or whomever. None of those guys would have lead this team the way Jamison has. None. It's situations like this year that magnify Jamison's importance, and make those of us who only see numbers and/or physical appearance utter and complete idiots. My thanks to AJ for being one of the most professional and dedicated athletes in the DC area. Hopefully he'll realize some post-season success. And Abe better hook him and GIl up this summer!

Posted by: Tuna | March 17, 2008 3:37 PM

AJ deserves all the honors he can get. I was really impressed with him in the playoffs last year. He was the only all star left standing and still scored in a major way when the opposing defense must have been keying on him.

With or without Gil, he is a proven scorer in his own right. He is also a leader and a class act. I am proud to root for him. I hope the Wizards can sign him for next year.

Posted by: Tim | March 17, 2008 3:41 PM

"Forget Jamison" spoken like the true Wizards fan we all know you are at heart.

I'm not so sure that the Rockets surge isn't more about EVERYBODY on that team buying into playing team defense.

Come on you guys, just ignore that post. This is about Jamison. Something positive. Let's not even let him take us there. He pretty much sullied the last post by Ivan. I have always been an AJ supporter even when most thought he should be traded. He has far more positives than negatives for the Wizards and I am hoping beyond hope that we resign him. GO Jamison! The CAP for real!

Am I imagining things, or has AJ started routinely going for the slam instead of laying it in? I don't think I've seen him dunk this much since he was a rookie. You have to love a guy who keeps ratcheting up his intensity level, to go with those patented finesse moves.

Posted by: John Brisker | March 17, 2008 3:48 PM

Oh great, now he's repeating himself as an illiterate, great....

We get the point, you don't have to repeat yourself...

For those of you that missed his last post on the last blog. "the bus is fast"

Got to be one of the great 88 comebacks of all time. Smoov, welcome to the blog. 88 will keep you in material for a long time!

When confronted with intelligent reasoned responses, 88 can always type "the bus is fast". Wonder if it can go 88mph?

Posted by: GM | March 17, 2008 3:54 PM

Jamison's definitely dunked more this year than he's ever since he's been with the team. Funny, since he's logging more pressure & mins with the injuries, you'd think he'd just save the energy & lay it in. Go Jamison

Is it just me, or is anyone else expecting that Caron is going to have to miss some time soon?

I just hope the Wizards can win this one in regulation, otherwise Eddie might play Caron 53 tonight.

Injuries have gotten so bad that there was no more room to list DS nagging knee injury, yikes!

I guess there's zippy chance that Gil plays tonight. ATL has some real athletic young guys, so we'll have to put a hurtin' on them with the big guys. Enter BTH

Wow! The better AJ gets, the more he's going to command in the free agent market. He'll surely get more than 10-12 mil/year!

I'm sure Abe is hoping for an injury to cool AJ down.

"No update yet on Gilbert, who said he was taking an MRI exam on that left knee today."

Ivan,

Do you know where Gil got the MRI at today?

I was visiting a friend at Howard County Hospitol today and I could have sworn I saw Gilbert walk into a side door as I was coming out.

If it wasn't him the guy looked like a dead ringer for him.

Howard University Hospital or Howard County Hospital? Why would he go to the latter?

Posted by: Anonymous | March 17, 2008 4:57 PM

Why would he go to the latter?

Not "university."

Because HoCo is apart of Hopkins, or an extension I should say.

I'm just saying I saw someone who REALLY looked like him and was curious.

I don't know if it was him or not and I got over too late to that door to see if it was.

"I am pretty sure the Wizards go to Sibley Memorial"

Cool, I was just curious. The guy was a "ringer" but I had to ask why he was there myself.

Last time I checked Hopkins was pretty good. Besides, were talking about an MRI and doctors usually work out of multiple offices anyway.

Posted by: rmcazz | March 17, 2008 5:58 PM

Fair enough. Just seemed that Howard County would be a bit out of the way for an MRI.

Yet ANOTHER idiotic statement by the Troll.....TMac and Jamison do not even play in the same division. The Troll's STUPIDITY never ceases to amaze.

Posted by: Spanky | March 17, 2008 6:00 PM

These trolls are IDIOTS on this blog....especially Spanky Troll.

Nobody said AJ didn't deserve Eastern Conf. Player of the week.

GM the idiot troll said AJ should be considered for MVP honors. I said TMac should be considered MVP before AJ.

If trolls on this blog think AJ deserves MVP, then how did the team do while Caron was out? NOT SO GOOD, except for some good wins against NO, but otherwise, NOT SO GOOD!

Posted by: DC Man88 | March 17, 2008 6:07 PM

Glad to hear one of you people who were pushing for an AJ trade admit they were wrong. And some of you even wanted straight-up trade for AK 47 in return. Andrei's putting up great numbers this year. NOT.

Anyone else want to cop to that mistake instead of turning an AJ-appreciation thread into yet another Gilby-obsessed rant?

Anyone who thinks T-Mac is carrying the Rockets isn't following the Rockets lately. Check the box from last night, it was Rafer Alston with 31 (T-Mac with 11). Check out a few of their games and you'll see it's a complete team effort: Alston and Battier are having career years, they finally have a talented power forward in Scola, young guys like Luther Head are making consistent contributions, and even the old man Dekembe is coming in and manning the interior defense for 16-20 mpg.

But what T-Mac is doing is better than carrying a team, and it's what Kobe has always had such a problem doing: burying his ego and getting his teammates involved. There's plenty of moaning about LeBron's ego on the other thread today, but LeBron does work hard to get his teammates involved. And he isn't nearly the baby that Kobe was about playing for an under-talented team.

Antwan is a class act and one of the most underrated players in the game. Not a lot of 20/10 guys out there.

Posted by: | March 17, 2008 04:57 PM "

If you want to die, you go to Howard University Hospital.

If you think Les BouleS doctors are bad, then you are going to die if you go to HU Hospital. They almost lost their accreditation a few years ago!!!

Gilby would go in for an MRI, and HU hospitals would amputate his other leg!!!
