Mason agrees to deal with San Antonio

Roger Mason Jr. has agred to terms of a deal with the San Antonio Spurs. Don't have all the details yet but will shortly. This is not a shocker given the fact that the Spurs liked Mason last summer as well.

Good luck to Roger, he was an asset to the Wiz and will be missed. Looks like Nick Young will have a significant role wit Wiz this season and that's a good thing in my book. Time to sign Matt Barnes.

Good for Roger. He will most likely get a ring next season.

a classy player for a classy team. good luck to you, Roger. you will be missed.

Yea I wish all the luck to Roger Mason. He is a class act and sure can hit a jumper. I hope he gets a good contract and hope he gets good playing time for those boring ass Spurs.

All the best to you ROGER!!!

Instead if throwing all that money at Gilby, they should have kept a classy individual and true team player like Roger Mason.

Posted by: DC Man88 | July 9, 2008 7:38 PM

Mason was a goner anyways. Nick @ Nite is expected to step up and become a rotation player next season.

Best Wishes to Roger and here's hoping he does well in San Antonio

No chest thumping.
No screaming.
No acting.
All class.
Hope some of the Wiz learned something from him.
Good Luck, Roger

RM was too nice, the Wiz need more spice...Go get Ricky Davis from the Heat or Bostjan Nachbar from the Nets. I believe both are UFAs.

"They're going to get better results going all out against the weaker competition in the East than they will against the deeper stronger teams in the West."

Uh, no. They had better results going against the "deeper stronger teams in the West" than they did against the "weaker competition in the East".

"If they played a greater number of games against better, deeper, more talented teams (which they would in the West) then they would, as a matter of basic logic, have to expend more energy to beat those teams than they would to beat lesser teams in the East."

Again, wrong. As I stated earlier, and a point which you did not refute, the Celtics played with the same energy in every game, no matter the competition. Therefore, as a matter of basic logic, it does not matter what competition they're facing (whether playing the West or East), they're going to expend the same energy.

Good to hear. He's earned it.

Posted by: Buffalo Dele | July 9, 2008 8:02 PM

Oh and by the way, good luck to Roger. Wish him almost nothing but the best (almost being the Spurs defeating the Wiz in the finals...that I can't wish for).

And equal good luck wished upon Nick Young. Time to step up.

Thanks for everything Rog Mason Jr. You were a joy to watch and honor to root for. You will be missed...

Now, don't have any hesitation to come back and sign with the Wiz in a few years with a "hometown discount".

Young contributing next year seems like a big stretch to me. He seemed clueless most of the time last year, albiet there were a few big moments.

From what i've read, he's immature and not the brightest bulb in the kitchen, so expecting major improvements seems pretty hopeless.

i hope stevenson is working on his jumper.

What is this hype over Roger Mason? He hit a few shots last season, which shockingly, is what he was paid to do.

It's no major loss losing him. If EG wanted him, he'd be signed.

good luck roger. The hype over Roger is that he was the only guy on the bench that could come in and consistently nail shots... especially 3s. Terrible off-season for the wiz so far.
1. We passed on a tremendous talent in Darrell Arthur in the draft.
2. Paid Gilbert way way too much money too come back. Instead we could have signed Elton Brand and signed back Roger and probably added a guy like posey or barnes.
3. We let Roger go.
4. We have no intentions in signing a center- the position we need the most help in.

Oh sure...if Mario looked like crap in the summer league, I guess that would have been better proof that the Wiz should have drafted him...in your Bizarro world.

Please don't mention Opech. What he did in the summer league isn't what the Wiz need, and that's a 7 footer shooting long J's. Of course, EG drafted him anyway, knowing full well what he brings, and doesn't bring, to the table.

I didn't refute it because it has nothing to do with my point.

"Therefore, as a matter of basic logic, it does not matter what competition they're facing (whether playing the West or East), they're going to expend the same energy."

Nonsense. You don't even have to a genius to know that teams have to play harder to beat better opponents (like the 8 teams in the West than won 48 games or more) than they do to beat mediocre opponents (like the 9 teams in the East that finished below .500). And, as a matter of basic logic, the harder you play the more energy you expend.

"Also yesterday, the Wizards signed Utah Jazz restricted free agent point guard Dee Brown to an offer sheet for a two-year, partially guaranteed deal. Utah has one week to match the offer."

I see the Wiz signed an offer sheet for Dee Brown. Curious, as I thought Dee Brown played overseas last year...why would he still be considered a RFA of the Jazz?

Posted by: larry smith | July 10, 2008 12:15 AM

From Dee Brown's blog on June 29th (the "Illini Prince")...watch out GA.

...I will play with the Detroit Pistons or Washington Wizards in Las Vegas. I'm so excited and honored to be able to attend such an event and feel like its a great opportunity for me. I really feel blessed to get that opportunity, in this business that's what athletes are chasing.....OPPORTUNITY. I play everyday with some of my favorites players (all pros- Shannon Brown (Chicago Bulls), Luther Head (Houston Rockets), Will Bynum (Maccabi). These are the guys who are preparing me for the intensity and competition. Summer time "suppose" to be a time for rest and vacation, but I can promise you, I have never been on vacation, never just rest the whole summer, I continue to work and play the game of basketball because the best players in the game don't take breaks. Basketball is what I do, I love it, I think and dream about basketball all day. I feel I have to stay on top of my game because there are so many great basketball players who are working hard to reach their dreams. At the end of the day if you play basketball and you are reading this right now, me and you have the same dreams...to play basketball for a living first option NBA. What will you do to make this happen? Thats the question I never been asked because I know what I have to do and it will be done because its whatever I have to do to make my dreams come true. I will work, work so hard that I can't be denied. That's what it takes and I know that so I'm working hard but also enjoying my family time and being home it can't get no better than that.

I want to thank everyone who came out to the second annual golf outing hosted by me and made happen by my wonderful mother. This event will only grow because with Deron Williams (D-will), Luther Head (LU) in attend, great service, great food, and its for a great cause it will only become more attractive. It was a beautiful day, everyone showed up, the event went so well and I have to say thank you again to everyone who came, who donated, it means a lot to my family and this event will only continue to grow and become an event you have to attend for the experience. I really didn't golf that good, but I have become very interesting in the golf. It's a tough game but its relaxing, mentality challenging and its a game that I would love to explore. Golf will definitely be on my new hobby list along with music and bowling. I just love to go out and play 18 holes and enjoy the course and the shining sun.

Other than that, I'm just preparing and getting excited for this upcoming season. Where will I be? I can't stop thinking about it. Everyone who follow me and really love me understand how I'm feeling right now. I'm having serious problems with my team overseas, I went over there and played my heart out for that team and I thought it was a great organization. The fans were great and I love them so much because they are the ones who always showed me love and support. I have to first say thank you to the organization for giving me a chance to represent them and play the game of basketball THANK YOU. But on another note, I haven't received no pay and a lot of money taken away from me because the team wasn't successfu, which in my eyes is a good and bad thing. The team was ran by me, I was the point guard and controlled everything so if when we won I'm the hero, I'm this or that but when things go bad I'm the one to blame and take a hit. I play basketball for a living and when I'm not being paid its like going to your 9-5 everyday and receive no pay I work for FREE? No aint nothing in this life for free, thats why you have to work. I'm so disappointed with the whole Galatasaray organization because I deserve my money, I worked hard, and I lived in another country for 7 months playing great basketball and winning games. So for all my fans over in Turkey and Europe I had a great time over there, I played hard, I was honored to be on the team, I wanted to win but at the end of the day someone has to lose. I came over to Turkey to get better, gain experience, and to get money I have two kids and family to take care of. I just cant't believe the organization would do me like that but its only making me stronger and understand the business. I love life and love what I do so I know God will make things better and make things right. I will always show love to all my fans and I really enjoyed my time in Turkey....I'm a better man, better player, and understand the game of life and basketball now more than ever before. So I'm blessed and even though I'm upset about this situation LIFE IS GOOD and I'm dedicated to making it back to my dream that's the NBA. What I have coming up....music and basketball games. I will attend U of I ( University of Illinois) for some camps and open runs. I just love going down there so much love and I feel so comfortable down there. I know I haven't been writing much, but your boy been busy with basketball, music, family. I always think of my fans and want everyone to know I love yall and thank you from my heart for the love and support for me. I will make it happen I promise.

Thanks for the love and support. I'm working hard and chasing all of my dreams. Much love and respect from your boy

Quote of the day: "Live your life, smile, dream, play, laugh, no matter what comes your way live this way".

Happy for Roger but thrilled to get more PT for NY!

Nick is a truely gifted athlete and a natural scorer. Not sure how much explosion Gilbert will have if he even does come back "100%" healthy. NY should get a real opportunity, used well he should be starting by the All-Star break. DeShawn has been very inconsistent on offense and somewhat less than the lock down defender the Wiz (EJ at least) keep hyping him as.

Yes, as a relative kid NY is going to miss assignments but he will have to miss several hundred more before being able to approach Gilbert's complete disregard for defense...

Brendan and Blatche are going to have their work cut out for them when these two are in the game together.

Really wish Ivan would give us a status on Etan. Not a word in a very long time and I would like to know if the guy is even playing contact basketball.

Dee Brown 6'0" 185 Point Guard. He played 4-years at Illinois University, and his Senior year was named Second-Team All-American. Drafted by the Utah Jazz #46 (Second Round) in 2006. His nickname is "The One Man Fast Break".

Played the 2006-07 season with Utah, averaging 9 minutes per game with 1.9 ppg (33% shooting), and 1.7 apg.

I see Dee Brown as a potential replacement for Antonio Daniels in a couple of years.

He showed some potential in 2006-07, but suffered a neck injury in the first round of the Playoffs that year - Utah, subsequently picked up Ronnie Brewer and Jason Hart to back up Deron Williams at the Point.

Brown played for a team in Turkey in the 2007-08 season.

I just found out what DB's contract status is:
"I have a two year contract with Cafe Crown but its my option I have a NBA buyout and Utah still own my rights. I will go work hard and hopefully I will be back in the NBA."

Posted by: oddjob | July 10, 2008 12:34 AM

This move for DB also explains why Ernie didnt have a decent PG on the summer league team...the mastermind must have been planning this all along.
It not earth moving, but like this move...under the radar, low risk, decent potential for success, and undoubtably minimal cost. DB was a hell of a player for the Illini, where he basically played out of position 3 out his 4 years. He gives the Wiz something they dont have and may fit in nicely with the other young bucks.

Why am I not surprised that you can't see even a glint of potential in ANYTHING that the Wizards do as an Organization?

Last year, you were moaning about the Wizards lack of bodies (specifically at Point Guard) when a rash of injuries had the team down to 8 or 9 players.

With Arenas coming off 2 knee surgeries, and Antonio Daniels also hurt for stretches last year; and with Roger Mason being signed by the Spurs - the Wizards find themselves in a position of having only 4 guards on the team.

People were begging all last year for the Wizards to obtain a lightning quick "pass-first" Point Guard.

Now, Ernie goes out and makes an offer for a second year player to fill that EXACT need - and at an attractive price that will still allow the Wizards to go after ANOTHER Free Agent (perhaps a SF to back up Butler) - and for the first time, have a full 15 man roster - - - and you're STILL p*ssing and moaning.

Note - Dee Brown was a second team All-American Guard at Illinois University. He played with Deron Williams and Luther Head for 3 of those years- playing out of position (at SG) until his senior year. In 2006-07, playing for the Utah Jazz he showed some real potential, backing up Deron Williams at PG... Playing an average of 9 minutes per game.... That year he had 83 assists and only 31 turnovers... so he's a dependable guy that doesn't turn the ball over.

Not a very good shooter, especially from 3-point land; but a VERY good assist guy... and pesky on Defense. He hustles, and works hard. Bad shooting can be fixed with coaching (Dave Hoopla)... but Desire, hustle and hard work can't be coached...

He showed some real talent in Utah, but suffered a neck injury in the first round of the Playoffs that year - Utah, subsequently picked up Ronnie Brewer and Jason Hart to back up Deron Williams at the Point; and since there was no room at Utah, Dee Brown went to Turkey to play in 2007-08.

Not a bad guy to have on the end of the bench for an emergency, and to groom as a replacement for the backup PG position.

Why not just wait until after you see the guy play in ONE game before you P*ss and Moan about him...
