Juan Dixon Press Conference at 11:30

The Wizards will hold a presser for Juan Dixon today. It was just moved from 10 a.m. to 11:30 am. As you read in today's paper, Juan signed a one-year, partially-guaranteed deal that could earn him $1.03 million, the minimum for a veteran with seven seasons of service.

The deal appears to make sense for both sides. With Gilbert Arenas down for a while, Coach Eddie Jordan needed another guard while Juan could have a chance to get some playing time on a good team and possibly earn himself a better payday on the free agent market next summer.

More later following the press conference.

Does make sense for both sides - I wonder how much Juan could have earned in Europe or if he even considered going overseason.

So glad we have Ivan Carter and Michael Lee covering the Wizards instead of the guy doing the Redskins blog...

I couldn't agree more with the comment about Ivan and Michael. Applies to Goff over at soccer insider also. You can be critical without getting personal.

So, how does this affect the lux tax threshold?

I assume 1/2 guaranteed keeps them under, but what if he stays on the roster for the entire season?

Will they lop him off the roster halfway through the season?

JD is not a guy worth losing 8 mil lux tax welfare that Abe needs to stay in the black for this team.

In fact, if EG is serious about going deep into the playoffs, the team as it is now hasn't gone past the 1st round, even with Gilby in the lineup (yes, LH is not on the team anymore).

Talk about putting a small band-aid on a gaping hole in the lineup for Les BouleS in both starting PG and a 4 who can defend.

It reminds me of EG's draft strategy....just holding steady, pick where you're slotted, be a good boy, and just getting the best available, whether he fits in your system or not.

Just keep pounding that square peg into the round hole while other team uses precision machined parts.

I'm glad to see Juan back in a Wiz uniform. He's a nice enough pick up--the problems of the Wiz weren't going to be solved by what we had left under the cap, and at least he's a feel-good player, nice to watch, fun to root for, fits in the locker room, etc. You hope the guy has a good year and gives us a spark every once in a while.

Yup. J.LaC stinks. Thank goodness for Ivan and Mike.

Well said. Have we all forgotten that Dixon can't guard ANYBODY in the NBA?

On a non-guaranteed 1-year deal for the minimum, Dixon is a low-risk pickup. But, contrary to the orgasmic delight being displayed by some, he's also a low-reward pickup. There's no reason to not want him on the Wizards, because at that price there's not much better to be had, but there's also no reason to think his presence is going to make any real difference.

And that's assuming he actually makes the team.

So, JD gets a press conference for signing a partially guaranteed deal. Whooppee!

So when are Les BouleS going to have press conferences for Dermarr Johnson, Linton Johnson, Taj McCullough, and for that matter, any new janitors, ballboys, or parking attendants?

a press conference for a 12th Man?

Posted by: George | September 24, 2008 11:56 AM | Report abuse

Dixon not making a difference?? Tell that to the Bulls when Dixon poured in 35 points in a PLAYOFF game.

Good sign and will take some pressure off of not having Roger Mason Jr. this year.

If they ever try to bring back Awvee Storey he should demand a re-introductory ticker tape parade.

I think this means that Dee Brown's days as a Wizard are numbered. should be a competitive training camp.

Stop hating.
Juan Dixon is getting a press conference because he's a hometime hero not because of the contract he signed.

Posted by: hi hater! | September 24, 2008 12:18 PM | Report abuse

What a waste!!! How do you not sign Demarr??? Dixon won't be ablt to duplicate what roger mason jr did last year....In fact won't even come close. He couldn't even get on the court for a banged up raptors squad last year.

Once again EG is a joke and needs to be FIRED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man I'm glad Gilbert saved the team all that money so we could get a huge difference maker like Juan Dixon.

Keep making those power moves Ernie will be in the finals in no time.

What a terrible organization...at this rate we will be like the raiders in about 3-5 years.

It's not hating, it's logic.

And, he only signed a partially guaranteed contract and he must make the team.

It amounts to much ado about nothing.

You so called "fans" whine and cry about anything and everything. No matter what, you find a reason to complain. Try cheering and rooting and having hope for a change. Nothing is guaranteed, that's why the games are played. Only one team can win the championship, but it's the excitment along the way that makes the season worth following. Don't you all remember when we perinially NOT making the playoffs? There are no truly dominate teams in the NBA as was yester year with the Lakers, Celtics, Pistons, etc, so a break here or there can change anything. I know there are probably 10 teams/cities or more who wish they had the personel the Wizards have, with a great chance for the playoffs and beyond. I would love to see this site change the constant hating on Arenas, Eddie, Ernie, Abe, Antwan, etc. Be a positve Wiz FAN! Stop Hatin' all the time!!!!!!!
