Wizards and Hornets From Barcelona
(Update:) JaVale McGee will start tonight along with Antawn Jamison, Caron Butler, DeShawn Stevenson and Antonio Daniels. The word just came....David West is not playing for the Hornets.
I just chatted with Juan Dixon, who was getting some shots up and is good to go for his preseason debut. Dixon has been slowed by that sore calf muscle but said he's feeling much better.
"I'm just excited about playing in a game," Dixon said. "Compared to practice, games are so much easier because the other team doesn't know what you're doing and where you're going on every play. It's going to be good to get out there again."
- Antawn Jamison is warming up and will play. I don't see him favoring that right knee at all. What a relief that is given how ugly it looked when he went down in Dallas.
- Antonio Daniels, who sat out of the last game to rest, is also good to go. Antonio said he took a veteran's night off.
- Look for Caron Butler to come out a little more aggressive tonight. Sure it's only the preseason but he was not pleased with the way they got drilled early Tuesday night.
-Hilton Armstrong starts for the Hornets tonight in place of Tyson Chandler, who is getting the night off. Julian Wright is out. David West will go after not playing Tuesday. That's key because Chris Paul and West form one of the better point guard-forwards combos in the league. The Hornets killed the Wizards with the pick-and-roll the other night and it will be interesting to see how they respond tonight.
Another interesting thing about the Hornets and something that will make them very dangerous: this is a team that can potentially put Paul on the court with four players who can knock down jump shots. We know about Peja but Byron Scott also has at his fingers Morris Peterson, James Posey, Mike James and a good midrange shooter in Rasual Butler.
-I really dig the new Hornets uniforms, especially the roadies they are wearing tonight. They remind of the uniforms the Charlotte Hornets wore when they first broke into the league.
-Eddie Jordan on coming out with a better effort tonight than on Tuesday when the Wizards needed a second half push to avoid a real blowout: "We played so much better in the second half of that game so we talked about carrrying that second half and effort and things we did into the beginning of this game. The way we practiced and the way we had a good shootaround this morning, I think we're up to that task."
