Flip Update

Just wanted to give you a mini update on Flip Saunders, since I know it's been a week or so since the news broke that the Wizards offered him the head coaching job. The ball is in his court right now and the Wizards are just waiting for his signature on the contract. The Wizards are confident that Saunders is coming and don't expect this deal to collapse. But they also aren't in any rush. They just removed the interim tag from Ed Tapscott's name, with the promise of a future role in the organization, on Friday.

The Wizards have been very particular in this deal with Saunders, hoping to ensure that every detail is covered so that there won't be a Tom Thibodeau/Billy Donovan (Orlando) situation, where something is agreed upon, the guy arrives, suddenly gets cold feet and backs out. As I stated earlier, both sides want this; it's just a matter of making sure both sides are happy with the agreement. Something should get done in a day or two.

It seems like the Wizards are looking for the ideal time (publicity-wise) to make this announcement and have the subsequent news conference, since most of this town is focused on the Washington Capitals and the NFL Draft. Because the Caps play on Wednesday and Friday and the Redskins make the 13th selection on Saturday, the prime window for the most media coverage is Thursday. But that's just me speculating.

Although I am hopeful, I'll believe it when it's signed, sealed and delivered to EG and officially announced....

I miss having questins posed by other post writers...here is one:

If and when Flip is hired, him and EG have a sit down and talk about the future. Now, what players are in and which ones are out?

the first player to go should be blatche. he's got potential, but mentally he's never there. he'll always be inconsistent.

his youth, size, and potential should warrant another team's interest.

combining him with a draft pick or hopefully James/Thomas should provide some salary help for next year and get back a player that can actually contribute on a nightly basis.

For pete's sake, don't let him meet Gilbert until after he's signed.

May I ask why? I could see the humor because Gilbert's confessed to being a goofball..
