Morning brew

Game day, at long last. Michael Lee checks in with Antawn Jamison, who was available to talk Tuesday, and he had plenty on his mind. Mike Jones of the Washington Times covers similar ground on the team's health front. The Wizards are actually getting healthy. Imagine that.

Mike Prada of Bullets Forever was doing some late-night number crunching (note the time stamp) in conjunction with the imminent return of Mr. Jamison.

On the other side, Cleveland played Tuesday night, eking out a home win over the Golden State Warriors, 114-108. And in case you're wondering: Shaq did not fly to Washington with the team. According to Brian Windhorst of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Shaq and Anderson Varejao were expected to travel to Washington for today's game, but both were listed as doubtful. [Updated 10:08 a.m.]

Game highlights courtesy of NBA.com:

Around the League ...

Marc Stein's power rankings are out now on ESPN.com. Wizards are 24th and sinking.

Ten was supposedly enough, but what do the New Jersey Nets do about being 0-11? After losing at home to Indiana, 91-83, last night, the Nets have the worst record in the league and are off to the worst start in franchise history (for most older NBA fans, who remember the pre-Jason Kidd Nets, that REALLY is saying something). But Lawrence Frank appears to be safe, according to CBSSports' Ken Berger.

Chris Bosh didn't exactly howl like Kevin Garnett did after the Boston Celtics won the championship, but when asked about possibly pairing with Dwyane Wade next summer in Miami, the free agent-to-be told Chris Tomasson of NBA Fanhouse that "anything is possible."

All that talk about Allen Iverson going to New York? Fuggetaboutit! At least that's how Howard Beck of the New York Times sees it. He writes that Iverson could inhibit the growth of the Knicks' young players, citing the release of Stephon Marbury last season for similar concerns.

The Golden State Warriors shipped Stephen Jackson to Charlotte. Is Monta Ellis next? Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News reports that Ellis's agent, Jeff Fried, has been given permission to pursue a trade. But Ellis tells the San Francisco Chronicle that he wants to stay with the Warriors.

Just when Rashard Lewis returns, the Orlando Magic will be without Jameer Nelson for the next four to six weeks after he tore a meniscus in his left knee. Orlando might stand pat, but General Manager Otis Smith tells the Orlando Sentinel that he hasn't ruled out Allen Iverson as an option.

Here's NBA.com's Daily Zap to get you caught up on all of Tuesday night's action:

Intangbles cannot be coached, practiced, or planned. We will see tonight what kind of intangible effect Jamison has for this Team.

I hope he is the right ingredient.

I actually think that AI would be a better passer to the post to Superman than Nelson.

However, thats about it.

We've got Oberto for the vaunted intangibles! Just drop a 25/12 Antawn!

If the rumors are true (and these kinds of rumors have a way of being true), Shaq is really the worst. And if they aren't true, he ought to come to DC and confront Gil. What a shame and a mess.

Why don't the Wizards sign Iverson. He's far better than anything they have.

"Mike Prada of Bullets Forever was doing some late-night number crunching..."

Yeah, I bet that wasn't the only thing Mike Prada was "crunching" last night.

Jerk.

"Why don't the Wizards sign Iverson. He's far better than anything they have."

Ummm, no.

Te Wiz will win tonight. Cleveland is coming on a back to back night and Jamison will spark the team.

I don't see the refs getting involved like they did the last game.

You've got it Divi3, like I said intangibles cannot be coached, practiced, or planned, so whomever thought that Oberto was it really don't know what intangibles is.

As badly as this team needs a win, and the way Shaq ALWAYS manhandles us up front (with every team he has ever played for), I am not shedding any tears should he happen to get a DNP tonight. We are due for some kind of break (not the ankles/knees kind). Shaq MIA would be a bit of a respite for us given our current situation (as long as we still come to play). If he truly is not playing tonight (I guess we won't know until game time), we should count our blessings.

Casual basketball fans see only points/rebounds/assists. That's all there is to the game of basketball. It's all about numbers. "Drop 25/12." Numbers! "He's only averaging 2 points a game." Numbers!

I didn't see any post from anybody claiming that Oberto was "it." Most who recognize his value also recognize that he is limited, but that he also has very servicable and valuable skills that this team needs. We didn't sign him to be an all-star. We signed him to play a limited role in spelling our starting frontcourt.

I would be willing to bet that none of you guys complaining about Oberto have ever played organized basketball.

I'm not hatin', but I do understand. I hope you guys get your numbers and we get our wins so you can enjoy your season. We all deserve a winner in DC, regardless of our perspective.

P.S. How the hell can you say "intangibles can't be coached, practiced or planned"? That statement alone says much about your knowledge of the game. Intangibles "must" be coached, practiced AND planned. It's called learning how to play the game.

Unbelievable!!!

re: Shaq's face. I expect Gil to play inspired basketball tonight. And remember: LeBron can't bring that crab-dribble s&!t to our house.

I wasn't really talking about the game..I think Shaq needs to show his face if he did in fact sleep with Gil's pregnant fiance.

hey bpybay, maybe we can get a team of 2ptt/2reb guys and intangible our way to a championship.? You know, guys who have learned how to play the game without scoring, rebounding, or blocking shots. What a wonderful team we would have, and all the knowledgeable fans out there would appreciate it.

but until then, i'll take 25/12 from Jamison thanks

Aptly put divi3. However, in his infinite wisdom he really dosen't know what intangible is, when it comes to balling. For, if you are producing like Oberto currently is, the value of his intangibles is very low.

Oberto might know how to play the game, but right now since he isn't excelling at what he brings to the table his intangible is squat.

You would have thought that bpybay would have realized that before he started acusing folks of not playing the game or having any knowledge of it.

Bpybay, just because you can make an accusation dosen't mean you really know what you are talking about.

By the way, look up what intangible means when it come to banking and money. It means simply, if you don't have any assets you don't have any intangibles.

Translate that to basketball and it means, that you can be knowleageable about the game all you want, but if you are not currently transferring that knowledge to the floor (Oberto) as in production, then your intangibles is nil.

I used money as an example for you Bpybay so you can clearly see what Divi3 are I are talking about when we say bringing some intangibles to the court.
