The Other Side: Minnesota Timberwolves

With Flip Saunders as head coach, the Washington Wizards will be linked to the Minnesota Timberwolves for some time. If/when Ricky Rubio finally comes to the NBA, possibly with the T-wolves, the pre-draft deal with Minnesota last summer involving the No. 5 pick will get heavy scrutiny.

But as the teams meet tonight, the only piece in that six-player trade who should see action is Randy Foye, with Rubio in Spain, Mike Miller hurt, Etan Thomas and Darius Songaila since traded and Oleksiy Pecherov not playing much.

The Timberwolves (6-24) have the worst record in the Western Conference, but they are coming off a 103-99 win over the New Jersey Nets on Wednesday. Here's what else you need to know about the Timberwolves:

1. New Coach Kurt Rambis is realizing that running the triangle offense doesn't work so well without Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Shaquille O'Neal or Kobe Bryant. The Timberwolves rank 26th in scoring offense at 94.4 points per game.

2. The Timberwolves have a crowd at power forward with their two best players, Al Jefferson and Kevin Love, both playing the same position. But General Manager David Kahn doesn't plan to make any trades this season.

3. Oleksiy Pecherov is still not playing. With Love missing the first 18 games with a broken hand injury, Pecherov received heavy minutes and played relatively well. He scored a career-high 24 points in a loss against the Boston Celtics on Nov. 4. He averaged 7.7 points and 4.2 rebounds in the first 17 games of the season, but he has played a total of 50 minutes and scored 12 points this month.

Any comment on Philly or EJ at this point?

They said they would keep Miller out until the start of the New Year but Gil seems ok. We have won 3 of 4 and I think we have a chance to win 4 of 5 and 3 in a row for the 1st time all year.

I love that Dave Johnson said Flip had a great dinner at his house last night with the whole team and everyone was feeling great. You have the team feeling confident that they can make a win streak, everyone is bonding with the X-Mas dinner, alot of guys are coming back to a familiar place in Minny, Wood is the only guy in the leauge who completely shuts down big Al, and Gil is now trying to expose smaller guards like Flynn & Sessions so he should look great if he's healthy. Rambis knows this so I wouldnt be shocked if he put Flynn on Foye and Brewer on Arenas but then Foye or NY should go off and Brewer is too big to stay with Gil. Foye is getting more comfortable so I expect him to play well against his former team tonight and be a little aggressive. I could see a vintage Gil-Larry Hughes type show with Gil & Foye.

Lets try to jump on them early and send a message to everyone in the league who will be watching on NBA TV that this team is totally different then it was earlier and we will be a major threat in the East

Saw earlier though that a Wolves beat reporter said that Gil & Boykins are game time decisions. I wonder is that just putting them on the injury report or could the really miss the game? Again, IDK if I want Gil to play anyways if he’s going to be affected physicaly or mentaly by it because when he’s like that then he hurts us more then helps. Hopefully he’s good to go because I dont think Minny has anyone to defend him.

They also said that Gomes will be back

any recs on where to watch the game online?

In response to that Hoops Hype gossip piece: I'm trying to think of an NBA club that would want to trade for Gil's contract, and coming up with nobody.

Maybe one of those gerrymandered deals in which the other team accepts Arenas plus an expiring and the Wiz agree to pay 50% of his salary next season... nah, still doesn't work.

Not that he isn't still a very valuable guy. But his value to the Wiz is greater than to anybody else.

On Pecherov not playing: I like him, but if I was coaching the Wolves, I probably wouldn't play him either. He's tough, but basically he's a bit of a stiff. The outside shot helps. But sharp elbows will only take you so far.

Does anyone have any ideas on where you can watch the game? Once again, the Cap's get the main CSN channel. The Wiz game is usually put on CSN+ when this happens, but it is not there.

I have NBA tv, where it is being broadcasted; but guess what it is blackouted. I thought that only counted on home games.

Mike Lee can you tell us the rules on when and how this works with televised games, or the lack there of? thanks...
