Wizards (10-18) at Grizzlies (13-16)

Wizards starters: Gilbert Arenas, Randy Foye, Caron Butler, Antawn Jamison, Brendan Haywood

Grizzlies: Mike Conley, O.J. Mayo, Rudy Gay, Zach Randolph, Marc Gasol

Line: Grizzlies by 6

JaVale McGee will be placed on the inactive list for tonight's game with a sore right knee. McGee said that the injured himself by bumping knees with someone at shootaround on Saturday. Mike James has been put on the active roster in his place.

Coach Flip Saunders also said that Randy Foye has been experiencing some discomfort in his left knee after a collision during the Wizards' win against Philadelphia. "He's had some soreness where his burst is at or whatever," Saunders said. "He seems like he's okay right now."

If the Wizards run some plays that seem similar to what they run under Eddie Jordan, it is because they are running some old plays from the Princeton offense. During the loss to Minnesota on Saturday, the Wizards ran some of those sets in an effort to free Gilbert Arenas from some of his playcalling duties, Saunders said.

"We've had that all year," Saunders said. "I've done that some to take the pressure off Gil with the ball. Not have him handle the ball consistently all the time. We used to run that all the time for [Kevin] Garnett and Rasheed Wallace. That was our fist up roll. We've always run it.

"My offense has always had different looks to give it a different look," Saunders said. "You want to have an offense that is diversified, so if something isn't working, you can go to something else. It was more of a situation, it opens the floor up a little more and make sure you swing the ball from side to side a little bit."

DeBrick's 1st half line:

1:16 min
-5 rating
1 foul

Um yeah I'm gonna need you to stay on the bench from now on OK... yeah thanks.

Boykins is killing me, how many times is he going to dribble out the shot clock and throw up some garbage?

I'd rather see Nick or Foye get his minutes.

On DeJuan Blair -- since the subject keeps coming up -- here's what is wrong with him:

Blair tore both ACLs in high school, followed by surgery. As sometimes happens, the scar tissue that resulted from the surgery was absorbed into other tissue. The upshot: Blair doesn't have any AC ligaments.

He's been playing without them for years. But because no NBA team doctor would sign off on a player with that sort of physiognomy, nobody drafted him. Until San Antonio in the second round, that is.

Basically, he's using his quadriceps and his hamstrings to stabilize his knee (functions normally involving the ACLs). If something happens to his quads, for instance, his knee(s) could destabilize.

Shooting 53% against a bad team and still losing. Not good. Almost nothing from the bench.

By the first of the year if this is continuing (and it will), something's got to give.

Change the team name, colors, play outside - something.

First 11 possessions in the fourth quarter:

1 for 7 from the field with four turnovers.

Score went from one down to 10 down.

Game, set, match.

Andre Blatche is lost out there.

Andray, Andre whatever.

What a mess. Not quite as bad as the Skins but let's not push our luck.

Man this is hard to watch wizzies down by 10 with 5 minutes to go

Posted by: rnorris6 | December 28, 2009 10:04 PM | Report abuse

At least Flip recognized his security blanket (Boykins) didn't have it in the fourth tonight. The Wiz can still pull this one out if they show patience on offense.

Nobody knows you because you are a nobody.

Given that, you can not dispute anything that I have ever written, and the proof is in your pudding with this sorry Les Boules team that's fully healthy with their "small 3" but still look like a lottery team.

If calling for EG's job is a surprise to you, then you clearly must have just crawled out of somebody's crack.

One can only blame the players and the coaching so much.....it's time to blame the idiot who put this team together....namely with failed draft picks, failed FA acquisitions, failed coaches, released coaches (Hopla), etc.

Focus on the facts that this is a sorry Les Boules team, not the truths that I write that you cannot digest nor dispute.

Moron.

I've said it before....this dude is just auditioning for his next contract.

At least with Gilby, you knew he was going to take a bad shot, but not run out the clock.

Boinkins likes to overdribble, run down the clock, and then take a shot.

Nice foul Brendan... what a dummy.

Would you like him to just stand there? Wasn't the most obvious foul. I'm not mad at him for that.

I don't care if it doesn't count. Gil is the man.

Only the elite players can sink shots like that.

Marc Gasol is already a better NBA center than Brenda.

He has a nice array of moves, better than average footwork and he hits his FTs.

Another awful loss.

They might be 10-20 this time tomorrow night.

10 AND FRIGGIN 20. This is a disgrace.

tell you how bad arenas basketball IQ is lol 9 seconds left down by 4 arenas takes the inbound pass at 3 point line and instead of shooting whats he do he drives to the basket takes a contested layup and misses game over oh well

I cannot believe that the Wizards play well during regulation then run out of gas (again) during overtime. The players and coaches need better time management so that they can win the game in four quarters instead of lose it in five.

honestly kalo_rama i cheer for the wizards only because they are the home team other than that all i really enjoy are competitive games and sadly the wizards do not believe in competitive basketball lol

they were playing so bad that if it was the lakers or the celtics or cleveland it would of been over way before the fourth quarter forget about overtime lol

LarryInClinton will have fun with this loss he will say Flip Saunders needs to leave. The only sad part about Flip coming here is him getting talked into believing he could mold this group of has been all stars into a cohesive group of NBA players. Because believe it or not Flip Saunders is a great coach but he needs players willing to give their all into playing his system in order for it to work!!!

Posted by: rnorris6 | December 29, 2009 12:02 AM | Report abuse

Rnorris6,

Our inside presence sucks. Flip and a whole crew of folks continue not to give or think that it would be better to give Brendan help in the paint.

It is so easy for any Team in the League to beat us in the paint. I've said this before and I will say it again.

Play two of our bigs together for major stretches in the game.

There bigs killed us. However, we have bigs but we think it is cute to play them one at time.

Has it dawned on all of you that keep harping on low BB IQ by the players might be because that darn Flip BB IQ ain't quite clicking either.

As bad as Darius Songaila and Etan Thomas looked trying to play center, Andre Blatche is going to start looking the same way.

Andre Blatche ain't no darn Center for Gods sake, he is a POWER FORWARD and he should be playing the game with Brendan.

I gaurantee you that Mark Jackson would have Blatche and Haywood on the floor together.

Blatche is useless coming in at the Center position and it adds nothing to the Team and waists his talents.

not reallt that bad IMHO. a 3 is as good as a 2 when you're down 4 you still gotta score twice, and the wasy memphis was rebounding, there was no way the wiz would get a second chance shot off of a missed 3. taking the ball to the basket quickly could have put a near certain 2 pts on the board and possibly even a and one foul. all of this is moot cuz he blew the layup, but i'd luv to read the comments about his bball iq if he took a contested 3 with 6+ seconds on the clock and other players open for better shots. gil took a contested 3 and made it into what shoulda been a gimme layup. the result was bad the thinking not so much. now if you wanna talk about our front line givin up 15+ pts and 10+ rebs to both Gasol and Randolph we can get it in.

Posted by: lilhollywood10 | December 29, 2009 8:56 AM | Report abuse

Gilby with only 2 FT's taken in the game means he was gunning all night.

Not a winning formula, but then again, what's new?
