Miller out, Haywood ill

Mike Miller will not play and Brendan Haywood may not play against the Philadelphia 76ers tonight, Coach Flip Saunders said at the morning shootaround. After saying that the chances of Miller returning from a strained right calf were "50-50," Saunders ruled out using Miller on Tuesday. But the Wizards may also be without Haywood, who came down with some illness last night and stayed back in the team hotel.

"He just didn't feel good, kind of feeling 'blah' or whatever," Saunders said. "It wasn't a fever or anything thing. Maybe it was something he ate, maybe a 24-hour thing."

If Haywood is able to play, Saunders said he would stick with his current big starting lineup with Haywood, Andray Blatche, Antawn Jamison, Caron Butler and Gilbert Arenas. If Haywood cannot go, the Wizards could start either Fabricio Oberto at center or go with Randy Foye at shooting guard and move Blatche to center against the smallish 76ers lineup.

I forgot to get into this a few days ago, but Saunders really was infuriated with that Yahoo! story about a rift between him and Arenas. He was adamant that he and Arenas don't have a problem. All that I can say is that I never witnessed any problems between the two during training camp. I've spoken with someone who told me that Saunders is in charge of his practices and hasn't been afraid to criticize Arenas and challenge him. I've also heard that at times, when Arenas starts yapping or goofing off in practice, Saunders has been the first to yell, "Shut the [expletive] up!"

Arenas has responded by zipping his lip. "He's done that plenty of times," Arenas said. "Like I learned in high school, when they don't cuss you out, that means they don't care."

All you can say is that you haven't witnessed it? How about saying that the media or the reporter in particular is a liar and is writing stories to get ink and not interested in the truth or the consequences of his writing. Typical media, afraid to go after their own whey they are savaging the inmates.

Everyone should probably brace themselves for the sudden torrent of angry ranting prompted by the fact there's no mention of starting McGee if Haywood is out.

Why shouldn't there be outrage that the guy we drafted to be our future Center, has curiously been a DNP for most games recently and can't even get playing-time when the starting C is possibly out. This is insane. Ugh! only the Wizards are this stupid.

Posted by: lilhollywood10 | January 5, 2010 2:40 PM | Report abuse

@glawrence007

do you seriously mean trade NY, JM and Gil and a first round pick for "an older marginal player or two in return"? if not i'm cool with you, but if so, that sounds crazy. why do we need to get rid of a first rd pick and our last two first rd pick and a top ten scorer and assist man for some marginal old players (like we don't already have enough Earl Boykins, OLDberto,Mike James). Aren't we trying to improve this team. How bout all you chicken littles wait for the other shoe to drop before you pull out the doomsday plan. No one will take Gil right now or if he's suspended, at least not for much in return. But what if somehow he slides and gets probation and comm service a few games suspended? Is he the reason we lose now? No. Is he a reason why we can't bring in a big FA? Yes, but there are a couple other guys who are very well compensated and don't play as well who i'd dump first.

Merely my way of saying GIL stays. After whatever STERN and/or the club does to him, he stays, and he plays. And the cancer he brings to the club stays with him.

I had a teacher one time pull me aside and tell me that I pi**ed her off because I would get an "A" the first semester and not show up for the second one. ;)

I never believed the Yahoo story.

"He must have watched the last 4 minutes and OT of the Heels' loss at College of Charleston."

Yeah, they just showed that. :)

My thought was he's been hanging out with Albert Haynesworth or something. ;)

I'll be one of those people. Unless the dude's knee is really bad, why not play him??

Makes no sense.

When i saw the Rev.AL Sharpton blog i thought this should be very interesting and of course it was with comments from people who only listen to Limbaugh and Fox news and some people who are just piling on,that being said i was a little surprised at the Reverend's comments but i understand the method to his madness Rev.Sharpton has had numerous town hall meeting's concerning black on black crime a subject that is hardly addressed by the media unless they are quoting crime stat's he was referred to as an ambulance chaser that would hardly be the case concerning the Reverend Sharpton he has unlimited access to the White House and Pres.Obama and VP Biden he is currently conducting a nationwide forum on inner-city education along with former Spkr.of the House Newt Gingrich and Sec.of Educ. Arne Duncan the three of these gentleman are adressing the issue of improving test scores for minority kids especially young black males. I had the pleasure of meeting Rev.Sharpton about four years ago through one of my clients Joe Madison(formely of Radio One,now with XM/Sirrus satelite) who has a nationwide talk show, Rev Sharpton couldn't been nicer and more humble while we are busy passing judgement on Arenas and his stupidity we all would be better served if we tried to take the time and make a difference in our communities especially the african american community where our young black males are dropping out of school at an alarming rate and are the most likely to be incarcerated,that is where we all could make an impression and a difference.

Philly's centers and forwards may be smallish but they are athletic. They'll go right over Oberto. I forget if Dalembert is healthy, but given he's limited offensively and mostly gets put-back, he's the perfect match up for McGee who should get some decent minutes.

What ever is going to come up let us talk about basketball.
Washington has the best schedule this month, they have 10 out of 15 home games.they lost the 1st to spurs and expected to loss to cavs.If they play good basketball i will give them a 10/4 run and by the end of the month will have a record of 20/25 which is a possible 7th or 8th spot in east.

Let's make one thing abundantly clear. BTH talking to the police about firearms in the locker room is not snitching. It is being a responsible adult.

And the reason McGee isn't playing tonight is because all of the professional basketball men in charge of running this team, people who have dedicated their lives to learning about the game, cannot evaluate talent as well as randoms who watch on Comcast and post on blogs. Obviously.

Or maybe it's because he makes lousy decisions on offense, gets lost on defense, and gets winded after a few trips down the court.

Nah, Flip is just an idiot.

Does it matter who brought the situation to management? Haywood or Jamsion, who cares. Would anyone on this blog want to come to work with a goofball bringing in guns to keep in their office or locker? I seriously doubt it. Arenas is an unresponsible, immature, and a negative influence on the team. If he isn't suspended by the NBA, the Wizards' management should try to trade him for anything short of a bigger contract.

Posted by: wizfan89 | January 5, 2010 5:26 PM | Report abuse

If you are going to trade Arenas at least get something in return. Remember when the Wizards grew tired of Chris Webber's antics and traded him away for Oldest Thorpe and Mitch Richmond. It took years to recover from that. Any trade has to make sense.

It's very interesting how Gilby's position takes a clear 180 turn after his lawyer puts out a statement from Gilby.

First it was "I'm Goofy...." and then after the lawyer scrub, it's "I'm sorry."

Note also that Gilby said (aka lied) that he brought the guns on Dec. 9th to VC because of his baby, but then pulled those weapons out on Dec. 24th.

If he indeed wanted to turn them into security, was Security not available for almost 2 weeks?

Gilby = F'n liar.
