Wizards (14-30) at Nets (4-40)

Wizards starters: Randy Foye, Mike Miller, Caron Butler, Antawn Jamison, Brendan Haywood

Nets: Keyon Dooling, Courtney Lee, Chris Douglas-Roberts, Yi Jianlian, Brook Lopez

Line: Wizards by 3.5

Mike James was getting ready to separate his tickets for family and friends before the Nets game on Friday. As he glanced down at the tickets, it was impossible to ignore that Gilbert Arenas's picture adorned the glossy cover. Arenas was suspended for the remainder of the season two games before and the Wizards will move on with some closure as it relates to him. But Arenas continues to loom.

"It's tough to through this," James said. "We're like one big fraternity and when one of our brothers go down, we all feel it."

Antawn Jamison was asked before the game how the team moves forward and he said, "I think we moved on a long time ago. We had clarity knowing they are not going to be here for the rest of the season. After the first suspension, we figured it was going to be something severe and if we did have him it wouldn't be a long period of time. As a team, we realized the possibility of playing with them was kind of slim."

The Nets, on pace to win just seven games this season, are coming off their first win of the calendar year, snapping an 11-game losing streak with a 103-87 win against the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday. Kris Humphries had a career-high 25 points in the win. Humphries is averaging 14 points, 6.9 rebounds in seven games with the Nets.

Devin Harris will miss his third straight game with a sore right wrist. Brook Lopez has been one of the few bright spots for the woeful Nets. Lopez has 16 "20-and-10" double-doubles, which ranks third in the NBA behind Chris Bosh and Zach Randolph.

Well folks, it sure is lonely out here without Arenas.

Thought maybe all you bloggers that wanted him gone would be takin' up all the space.

Guess Gilbert really was the Star.

Nothing to talk about without him, Huh!

WOW, this is one of the most exciting games the WIZ have played this season!

Yeah, Wait and see if the Wiz's lose.

Down by 10 to NEW JERSEY! WOW.... They lose to these chumps, expect someone/a few people to be traded next week! U heard it here first!

Posted by: rf2litenva | January 29, 2010 8:42 PM | Report abuse

how about this trade for the Wiz:

Wiz get Shaq
Cavs get Arenas and Haywood

That works in the ESPN Trade Machine. That would help both teams. no??

Posted by: thepinched | January 29, 2010 8:42 PM | Report abuse

Can the Wizzies get 20 in the first Q???

Posted by: VBFan | January 29, 2010 8:43 PM | Report abuse

Larry,

Flip and Ernie need to win this game so bad they are going to play Oberto ahead of McGee?

This organization is stuck in thinking the big 3 could take them to the promise land they can't even get out of there own way and play some young guys to see if they need to resign them versus going in another direction.

Posted by: bulletsfan78 | January 29, 2010 8:44 PM | Report abuse

Ya' know like I have been sayin' all along, Blatche should be starting at the 4 and Jamison should be playing the 3.

Jamison will still give to the Team the same things he is giving from the 4.

So if Blatche can hold his own at the 4 and he has shown he can earlier this year when Jamison was out, this lineup should add more production for the Team.

It would allow Oberto and McGee to be the primary subs for the 4 and the 5. Its makes sense to me.

But as alluded to on the previous blogs, Ernie Grunfield may well be calling the shots on who plays, so Flip Saunders may not be even be allowed to put the best team on the floor.

Not putting your best players in positions where they have the best chances of helping the Team may explain the putrid production on the floor from this Team.

Does anybody think especially you folks that believe the Team should be blown up think that any player or players that we bring in will make any difference for Ernie and Flip?

I don't.

Cant do any worse than what we're seeing now!

Posted by: rf2litenva | January 29, 2010 8:47 PM | Report abuse

Why can't McGee get in the game? Please somebody ask Flip that. You're playing the worst team in the league. Give me a break.

Seems like BTH is definitely being phased out. What a way to run a railroad.

It seems as though FLIP has something against the youngin! I'd ask for a trade if I were him!

For all the comments that McGee is too green to play, the Wizards would look like idiots trading him.

That in and of itself says a lot about how the Wizards use players.

At the beginning of the season, I went along with the comments that Nick Young was too dumb to be an NBA player.

It seems that analogy of Nick Young is really not a fair assessment of him either.

using washed up bums like oberto and deshawn over trying to see what nick, dom and mcgee have to offer is horribly flawed, we are awful it's time to see if any of the young guys can grow

Posted by: bford1kb | January 29, 2010 9:22 PM | Report abuse

If the Wizards lose I wonder who AJ will blame the lost on?

Posted by: bulletsfan78 | January 29, 2010 9:47 PM | Report abuse

Look like the bench playing better than the starters! The bench keep bringing the game back after the starters fall behind!

Hmm, this star you're referring to...always....

Were Les BouleS a winning team this season with him?

Boinkins and AB bail out Les BouleS.

MeTawn with 3-13 shooting (1-5 from 3)...2 shots from the FT line.

A great win on the road...I feel this is the start of a winning streak...dare I think about the 8th playoff spot and a first round playoff upset?

Go Wizards...Give Ernie a raise.

Posted by: bulletsfan78 | January 29, 2010 10:40 PM | Report abuse

No bulletsfan, don't. I did that after the great start to the homestand and I was severely disappointed.

I was just on the Wizards web site and they changed the 3 c slogan to...

Chokers Clunkers Convicts

Now that the all star team is determined, MeTawn will mail in the rest of this season....especially if he doesn't get traded.

If John Wall watched this game he's staying for another year.

Maybe two.

Heck, since these two teams will be in the lottery the next five years, Wall will be doing post-grad studies at UK. He'll never want to come out and risk being taken by these messes.

Paging Doctor Wall...

Posted by: SteveMG | January 29, 2010 11:10 PM | Report abuse

With Les BouleS luck, drafting John Wall will turn him into Brick Wall.

Posted by: DC_MAN88 | January 29, 2010 11:14 PM | Report abuse

Don't think John Wall is any better prospect than Ty Lawson.

Now that is make basketball worth watching
