The franchise that has dealt with major injuries over the years but the Wizards had an unexpected casualty on Friday - head athletic trainer Eric Waters, who came down with appendicitis and had to be rushed to hospital.
"We've always got something going down with our team. It's just one thing after another," Coach Flip Saunders said.
Saunders utilized his 24th different starting lineup, inserting Alonzo Gee and James Singleton for Al Thornton and JaVale McGee. Singleton received his start as a reward for grabbing a career-high 21 rebounds, while Gee got the nod because Thornton is still nursing a strained right hip flexor.
Before the game, Thornton ruled himself out of the game, and couldn't come up with a possible return. "This is one of those rare injuries," Thornton said. "It's tough to move. It's tough to put on pants in the morning. It's something I never had. Maybe it's two or three games. I can't even call it right now. I've got to rest it first. I haven't been able to get any kind of movement. I can't really guesstimate. I don't know."
