Poll: What do you think of Arenas's jersey change?

I'm not going back to Zero. (Photo by Ned Dishman/NBAE Getty Images)

By now, you are already aware that Gilbert Arenas is changing jersey numbers from No. 0 to No. 6 next season. Arenas has spent his entire career marketing his image and his persona around his jersey number and his something-from-nothing life story.

Agent Zero has officially left the building. Arenas appears ready to move on to another chapter in his career after completing a season-ending suspension for bringing guns into the locker room. Arenas will be sentenced in two weeks for a felony gun possession charge, but I wanted to see what you all thought about the change. What will you remember about the Agent Zero era? Place your vote and fire away.

IDK if any of you saw this on the Raptors board but I found it interesting. What are you guys thoughts on it? Im the biggest Gil fan there is and I think he will mentally & physically be great next year so if all things were even, I wouldnt trade him for hardly anything but I still am very worried about him fitting in Flip's system. I just think the PG's are limited in it and the only shot they can get off is the quick pull up off the screen. Thats basically it.

I just dont know if he will ever be dynamic in this system but I think if he goes the to Raps or Magic then he will look insanely good. Thats why this is the 1st time that I would consider this trade since it gives us a guy who probably would be good in this type of system and some expirings even though Jose's D sucks. I probably still wouldnt do it though because I just want to see Gil play with this Wiz team so bad. I want to see him play with guys like Blatche & McGee so bad. I think it could look special.

Nevermind about that trade fellas. I had no ideal that Calderon's contract was for that much money and had that many years still left on it. No wonder why alot of Raps fans liked it. Thats what made me interested because every other team's fans pretty much destroy all Arenas trades but they seemed to like it. Now I know why. I would never do that trade.

Arenas will be our pg next season if he isnt in jail.

stop looking to old and injured players.
I was just waching evan turner 6.6 ohio star scored a three far from the arch as the game time expire.This man will be a real star, people are compering him with BR,I think he is much faster than him.I think 50% of lottery teams will pick him over J wall in the draft because of his size, defense , multiple way of scoring and flexibility to play at both gard positions effectively. I hope allthe wounds in two bad season will heal.

sorry, not possible to pretend the club doesnt owe Arenas $80million nor think that he'll just sit on the bench next season.

Posted by: divi3 | March 12, 2010 3:45 PM | Report abuse

Divi, the wiz are leaving all options open. They'd obviously love to get something for one-leg 0. On the other hand, if he does get jail time, all bets are off on the contract.

I am not one that is convinced that Flip will get a pass because of his contract. A smart business move would secure the financing for the price of the Team and Leonsis might have Flip's salary as a liability if he intends on replacing him.

Meaning that to fire him and hire a new coach going forward next year might already be being considered in this appraisal process.

I just cannot see Flip Saunders as the right coach for a young rebuilding Team.

So to just keep him because he is already under contract would seem to retard where you want to go as a Team and that does not appear to be Ted Leonsis style.

I think if we are bringing Gill back, I think Flip has to go.

I am equally surprised that Gilbert's request was approved without a hitch. I think it is a good thing.

Gilbert's changing his number might also signify an awareness by him that he himself has some growing up to do and he as accepted that fact.

So will they disapprove Lebron's request?

Who cares what number he wears - can we just get a point guard who can score and pass and not create all kinds of chaos and confusion and drama?

We can all dream. I tried the ESPN lottery machine 12 times and the wiz ended up in 7th, 8th, and 9th spot each time, and each time got Cole Aldrich.

I got Evan Turner once and Ed Davis a bunch of times. I'm a Tar Heels fan, but I don't think we need another thin big man

That's better than what the Wizards got last year. *snark*

Has anyone seen Arenas making a big deal out of this? The only reason it's newsworthy is because of his celebrity. So we assign a whole bunch of meaning to it saying that this is proof that he's too easily distracted.

The guy can change his number. it's not a big deal. He's not making it a big deal (granted...not yet). As of right now, it appears he's done it for himself, not the publicity. And everyone is just judging him on the publicity that naturally follows.

We might already have a good point guard that can score and pass in Livinston, but Gilbert is a bit more than just that.

Believe it or not, Gilbert is news and he isn't going away just yet.

And yes the numbers that athletes choose have always been something that they care about one way or another.

There are numerous intriging stories and reasons why certain numbers are picked.

Check them out, you might find them quite interesting.

To LarryInClintonMD.

Why do you hate Flip so much?, actually he is not doing a bad job under the circumstances. I would not mind if he's the coach next year.

Also with the moves Ernie has made I would rather he stick around next season too.

One trade I think I would consider is try to get Harris from the Nets. Especially if the Nets get the #1 pick. This may be a good time to move Gil to the 2 position. Gil is a better scorer than passer. Harris does the things that GIl struggles at and vice-versa. Harris is a true point, dives the ball well, finds the open man and get he’s team mates in good position. But Harris struggles with he’s jump-shoot witch is a strong suit for Gil.

It would no take much to get him also, maybe our second 1st round pick and sign and trade with Foye (or FA of there choice).

@dsquare,

Ummm..no thanks on Harris. That would be a move that would take us nowhere and cost too much. In case you haven't noticed, he's done next to nothing on an all-time bad team and has a history of injury problems to go along with attitude problems. I think we've had enough of that already.

All of the Miller bashing is just silly. He's a role player whose role--in the wake of the team's dismantling--no longer exists. He's a guy who's good at complementing primary players with his shooting and all-around game but, as he's proven in multiple stops over his career, he's not a primary scorer or playmaker himself.

Posted by: kalo_rama
------------------------------------------

While the analysis on Miller may be true, here is one overlooked fact: He is drawing the starter salary (comparable to Caron Butler's, and was among the top 4 even before the team dismantled).

As it is said, it comes with the territory; when you are drawing a big check, people's expectation will be high.

It is just simple capitalism, noting silly about that.

@dsquare,

Larry hates FS so much bc he thinks he is a coach with his bizarre coaching theories he likes to spout on occasion. Some people you just have to ignore. FS is a proven coach and has had to deal with as bizarre of a season as a coach could be given. Before it all unraveled, I was pleasantly surprised by how many games I had nothing to say negatively about his rotations. A couple of end game situations bothered me, but in an 82 game season that is going to happen. In contrast, I could barely get through any game EJ coached without wanting to pull out my hair. His small ball, benching of hot players, and weird match up decisions always baffled me. Not to mention his horrendous defensive concepts. Thank god the overall talent level on the team then overcame his sub par coaching on most nights. I can say that EJ was a class act who probably got the most out of the "Big 3" on the offensive side of the ball, but not overall in the least.

@dsquare,

Its how you play/coach the game that counts in my book. Flip isn't coaching a very good game.

Also our 2nd 1st rounder for Harris is a bit premature. Let's evaluate Livingston for the rest of the season and hopefully Flip plays him.

He may already be our point guard in hand.

@saga,

That may be true. It's why I said a thread or two ago that I would bring him back possibly at $4 million not that he would come back at that price. But, it's not MM's fault he is being paid what he is. Whomever signed him to that contract would be the one at fault.

Posted by: rphilli721 | March 12, 2010 7:11 PM | Report abuse

Fourth highest salary on the team he was traded to play for sounds about right. He was projected as possibly the fourth option in a starting five that included Butler, Arenas, Jamison and Haywood.
It also has to do with where Miller is in his career salary cycle.

Posted by: midlevex_ | March 12, 2010 7:22 PM | Report abuse

I personally don't hate FS but I'm severely underwhelmed by him as a coach and here's why. He was brought in on a "win now" mandate by EG. He got Foye and Miller for the No. 5 overall pick, a fit big 3 (before the gun debacle), essentially no injuries, so essentially no excuses ... and led this team that he chose to lead not only into the basement, but turned it into a bickering dysfuntional circus (both on and off the court) and a national joke that forced EG to blow it all up before the trade deadline. All on Flip's watch. Nice coaching job.

Arch, you forgot to mention the injuries to Jamison and Miller and then Howard and the gun show in the locker room leading to Arenas and Crit suspensions etc.

"essentially no injuries, so essentially no excuses"

Jamison missed like 10 games to injury before being traded...
