The JaValevator goes up

JaVale McGee became the second player this season to have eight dunks in one game as he caught lobs, attacked the rim for put-backs and soared along the baseline for an impressive highlight reel.

Trey Kerby from Yahoo! Sports' Ball Don't Lie blog put up an interesting post that lists some of the notable players who don't have eight dunks this season, let alone in one game. The most surprising name on the list is three-time slam dunk champion Nate Robinson, who only has three dunks this season. Three!?! Nick Young also only has four dunks, which is a little shocking as well.

According to CBS Sports' Dunk-O-Meter, there are 132 NBA players who don't have more than seven dunks this season. McGee is tied with Ben Wallace and Spencer Hawes with 41 dunks this season. Dwight Howard, the only other player with an eight-dunk game, leads the league with 152 slams.

We love Javale and only hope he gets continued playing time to develop - he and Drey are our points of light in an otherwise dismal season.

Mcgee and Blatche give me a teensy-weensy itty-bitty smidgeon of hope for the franchise.

JM is a young guy and this will make him feel good about himself--which is great. Since we're otherwise getting our butts kicked, it's nice to have someone who can send a few back. If Chris Paul or Nash or Kidd was at the point, Javale would be averaging four-five dunks a game.

Mcgee will probably get abused at some point during this stretch, no way he's in good enough shape for the current gauntlet.

Hoepfully that's old man talk on my part though, a 22yr old may actually get in better shape during this stretch

For McGee and Blatche, I'm less concerned that they might get abused than I am about how they respond to it and to the grind.

If the keep their heads up and keep fighting and doing the things they can do, personally I'll be satisfied.

As one of the few experienced vets who sees the court for them right now, this would be a great time for MM to demonstrate some leadership. It doesn't have to be in points or even stats necessarily, but just in helping to keep guys focused and fighting through the fatigue. Based on that very thing, I'm imagining we will see Boykins more and more towards the end of this stretch.

I am a card carrying member of the JaVale McGee fan club, ever since I saw You-tube video of him at Nevada and when Indiana selected Roy Hibbert I was on my knees praying that EG would take him and my prayers were answered.

I know that you can't tell a lot by video but his athleticism was unquestioned for a 7 footer and his potential is tremendous.

He is definitely raw but is getting better every game for the most part.

Strength and experience is all that is needed, desire is already a trait he has in spades.

The lack of playing time he received when Eddie Tapscott took over last season was disturbing and frustrating for a team that was going nowhere and made ET my least favorite person, ever. lol

I noticed that JaVale's mother was in the stands last night behind the basket on the Wiz side of the court.

I'm sure he was inspired to play the way he played because of her presence but he needs to bring it like that every night.

Amen.
We're in the same boat this year.
Play Nick Y. Shawn L, Gee and anybody else that might grow with some extended playing time.

If they had given McGee 10-15 mpg his rookie year he would have made the rookie all-star team.

The Wizards have slowed McGee's development in the NBA and the only reason he is getting pt now is because of the Gunfight at the VC.

Nearly unstopable thunderous dunk after dunk and numerous blocked shots are okay, but show me a player that doesn't bite on a handful of pump-fakes and I'll show you an All-Star!

I agree with the play-the-kids now philosophy. In fact, we might we might as well go all the way and if-and-when we get into a close game situation late in the fourth quarter, give the ball to NY and see what he can do. He's got to get used to taking important shots.

Years from now we will look back at the actions of Gil Arenas as the turning point in the Wizards dynasty. Maybe the $111mil will be earned by causing the breakup of a failed concept to begin with.

Wizards are playing aggresive defense & playing as a team. Looking for the open man on offense.
