Andray Blatche, JaVale McGee reportedly get into altercation

By Michael Lee

The Wizards have been dysfunctional on the court this season, but may also have some disharmony off it. Multiple league sources have confirmed that teammates Andray Blatche and JaVale McGee were involved in an altercation outside an area club early Friday
morning.

Witnesses have said that the players were screaming expletives at each other, but two league sources added that Blatche and McGee also exchanged several punches at the Shadow Room in Northwest Washington.

A Wizards spokesman released a statement late Friday that read, "The team looked into the matter earlier today and determined it was simply a disagreement between teammates."

According to one source, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not at liberty to speak on behalf of the team, teammate Al Thornton tried to step in and separate Blatche and McGee but was punched by a club bouncer. No arrests were made and no one was injured.

In two text messages, Blatche denied that he and McGee have any conflict, but admitted they did get physical in effort to avoid the disagreements going on around them. "Only one push cause [sic] we was tryin [sic] to leave and it was fights around
us. Why would we fight we are team mates [sic]."

The Wizards did not practice on Thursday or Friday and will travel on Christmas to San Antonio, where they will practice in the evening. They will play the Spurs on Sunday.

Rod Strickland and Tracy Murray need to talk to McGee and Blatche about living in harmony. Rod and Tracy got along very well back in the day.

THEY AIN'T FRIENDS ON THE COURT SO WHY WOULD THEY BE FRIENDS OFF. They don't pass to each other or cover for each other, they don't act like friends or teammates.

Blatche might have a greater upside, but I think McGee fulfills the greatest need. Besides, Blatche is freakin' black hole ... he'll put up any kinda crap shot without conscience. Trade him.

Rod Strickland/Tracy Murray. Murray had to play with a black eye. Brendan Haywood/Etan Thomas. They alternated suspensions and now both are else backing up other centers. Hard to tell if they were fighting to be the starter or the bench warmer. Gilbert Arenas/Javaris Crittendon. Gil served time in a halfway house and Crittendon is on probation. Now Andray Blatche/JaVale McGee. This can't be good. Let's see how Ernie Grunfeld resolves this latest drama.

BUT, he IS a "basketball player" who is BY FAR a better than Jameer Nelson who I LIKE better as a "ROLE MODEL" than Gilbert Arenas. Did I make my point clear enough for you?

Posted by: zack9633

@ crack9633,

Stop smoking that stuff, dude (or is it heavily spiked eggnog that has you out o' your mind). Nelson is shooting 46% from the field for his career and has a 2.9 assist-to-turnover ratio this year. Sadly, Arenas is shooting 38% from the field this season and has a 1.7 assist-to-turnover ratio. I know of NO starting SG or PG shooting that poorly or handling the ball so poorly. NONE! Deal with the facts of today and stop fondly looking back to circa 2006. I'll type it slowly since apparently you have trouble dealing with truths: Arenas...is...a...bench...player.

Barring injury (or a Wizards-style rebuild), Van Gundy will bring him off the bench, see what he's got on a given night and sit him when he's stinking it up. And it is fair to say that he is rancid on most nights. Pesky things, facts.

So Blatche is a coward on the court AND a drunk off? Great.

He hates the team? Too bad the team didn't cause the ball to squirt out of his hands the other night. Blatche is a LOSER.

From Marc Spears at Yahoo Sports...

With Jonny Flynn now back for the Minnesota Timberwolves, reserve point guard Sebastian Telfair has drawn trade interest from the Warriors, Knicks and Washington Wizards.

While his two under achieving big men seem to find enough courage to fight each other, yet bow down ever so meekly to Kurt Thomas and Carlos Boozer, Ernie strides boldly forward to add yet another proven under achiever to this roster.

A friend of mine saw Alex Ovechkin and Alexander Semin at a club the other night drunk as skunks w/ about 9 girls at their table.

2 Redskins defensive linemen slug it out in the weight room.

Blatche and McGee, probably loaded as well exchanging blows.

No wonder all of the local teams suk.

Yes, the coach makes all the difference away from the court. Flip should have told these guys not to get drunk. Van Gundy would have left a note on the chair in front of their lockers. If it worked for Gilbert, it should work for anybody.

Failing that, the team might want to invest in some really high-quality surveillance equipment. Blackwater might be interested. Maybe a joint venture with the Humane Society -- Dobermans trained to growl threateningly at their owners at the sight of a stripper or a bottle of Cristal.

Will the real leader/captain of this team, please stand up??? Like I said before, no one stood up and no one is standing now.

Veteran influence and leadership/captaincy is no trifling trivial matter. For anyone or an organization like that of the Wizards to misunderstand the importance of this and they have for far too long is just plain pitiful.

It is plainly significant why mostly the same org's are hugely more successful than others. The have superior leadership and tradition as a constant part of the organization and they don't leave it to chance that idiocy and foolishness continually rears its ugly head and derails it's goals and it's purpose.

THEY UNDERSTAND that they share immensely in the shaping of these young adolescents to not only meet their own goals, but those of the organization as well.

Samson151, far too long The Wizards have suffered too much crap and it is time for them to bear the responsibility to become a winning organization.

It seems now that Ted has a more immediate problem than he realized. LEADERSHIP.

Who knows what the scuffle was about, it could have been over a misplaced beer. If expletives were thrown about then I would think it would be about McGee having to guard one on five all year. All you McGee haters, how would you feel if he did not block those shots and catch them in the air, or not block them at all. How would you like to be without the put backs he gets. How about the shot deflections and changing of shots. How about his steals. How about his thunderous lob dunks that take the wind out of the other team. He is not lazy, he is alone while Blatche is picking his seat. I like Blatche when he plays hard, and he has played hard four times this season.

Posted by: 1bmffwb | December 25, 2010 1:16 AM | Report abuse

Larry In Clinton, makes a valid point. Would Bird in Boston, Michael in Chicago, except for Rodman allow BS to happen. Everyteam needs a kind of enforcer. Someone that players who have no respect for the game or themselves will not challenge. Imagine Unseld or Ruland giving an order and it being ignored. How about Paul Silas or Willis Reed. It wouldnt happen, even Calvin Murphy or Isaah Thomas, they would smack you in the mouth in a second and then laugh at you. The point is that if the team does not fear and respect the coaches, captains, there has to be someone to keep order. Booker is learning how to play in the NBA, but he looks like a man out there. He is older than most of our youngsters, and he even looks mean. Michael is bring Oakley to Charlotte to have an enforcer on the coaches bench. Barney "Flip" Rubble doesnt have the cajones.

I guess Blatche will never grow up. Too immature and too stupid to remember what happened the last time he roamed the streets of the metro area in the wee hours.

Didn't someone shoot him several years back? A car-jacking or something like that?

I think the young and impressionable McGee is keeping bad company here, and someone should pull him aside and set him straight. Same for Thornton.

"all the black players" huh?

Some white posters just can't stop themselves from making bombastic, instigating, racially provocative, agitating, isht-starting, comments.

This nonsense is so well-rehearsed. I already know what your or another white poster's response is going to be.

It will be one of three fallacious counter-arguments.
1. Race Card
2. Hypersensitive
3. Poltical Correctness

1.Let me guess, because Zack and I came back on you for a dumb generalization, we're playing the race card and not you, right?

2.Oh, oh, oh, I see, because we came back at you, either you or another white poster are going to comment on how blacks are hypersensitive right, we just can't take a joke or the truth as you see it, right?

3.Wait, I get it now, because you have been challenged for throwing a lit match on this thread, it's political correctness-why can't a white dude say what he wants, no matter how ignorant, without blacks responding right?

So which one are you going to use?

How would you take it if I jumped on this thread generalizing about "all the whites" as I was commenting on Haley Barbour's comments?

C'mon DC, you usually make smarter statements than that on these threads...sigh.

Looking at team salaries on shamsports.com, it's not too hard to understand the reasons behind the madness and why we are one of worse organizations in the league at this time. We have a $57 Mil payroll which is among the lowest in the league (in line with the Clippers). Many says top level players won't come here when the real issue is that we won't pay top level players to avoid going over the salary cap. It's a 2 way street, we'll always have Blatche-McGee type incidents as long we don't have veteran leadership because we refuse to pay them "fair market value". Not paying Roger Mason and low balling Larry Hughes and J Howard is just small proof that we are cheap. I wonder if EG will low ball NY if continue to play lights out?

I've actually found the criticism of the grammar by the players humorous. The same folks that point out the "awful" grammar from 20 something year old players never seem to catch the grammatical errors from their white coaches!

I've listened to Norv Turner, Steve Spurrier and Flip Saunders butcher the English language with no one raising an eye brow.
Hell, the previous POTUS couldn't put a sentence together when all he had to do was read it from his speech writer's script.

But let a black kid open his mouth and misplace a preposition or use an incorrect tense...and it's "Katie bar the door!!"...

I'm not surprised by the obvious bias, after all this is America.

Nobody was complaining about all of those contracts, only Gil's because he wasn't worth it at the time because he hadn't played much because of injuries. If they would have added pieces through free agency at that time, instead of thinking he had better than a potential 6,7,8 seed EG may not have had to blow that team up. Our "big 3" were not consistant at all ahd played little to no defense. Because they going to sell the team due to the death of A Polin, they needed to reduce the debt of the fanchise, that's how we ended up with this group of nothing! We lucked up and won the no. 1 pick, this is not the NHL, we will need at least 2 top level league talents, we have none and won't get any via the draft. Why do you think the Clippers are there every year? When you suck, all you really do via the draft is groom your good players for good teams to be stolen via free agency.

Trade Blatche for someone that can rebound and doesn't want to set the record for lowest FG% as a PF. Sure AB might become a star elsewhere, but what else is new Wizards fans?

We shoulda had Oakley as assistant and then asked him who is like him. Then go trade for em. There are a number of big men with talent that aren't being used by their teams that we could get for AB. Trade him to Sacramento if possible for JT and CL.

While I understand the allure of nightclubs (GROUPIES! VIP TREATMENT!), I just don't understand why so many young men with so much to lose put themselves into that circumstance. I don't expect these guys (Blatche, McGee, Thornton) to be puritans, but one thing I've learned is that being drunk in public is never a good idea. Have a few drinks, dance a little bit, get some numbers, then head on home.

I'm not gonna put too much stock into what may have happened between those two, since they were both drunk, apparently. But both Blatche and McGee need to understand that people are watching what they do, and how they conduct themselves in public. Not good form...

MEMO TO MIKE LEE:

Mike,
I wonder how big of an altercation where it required writing about. I am more concerned of an organization with no leadership than a "buddy brawl"! I knowit's Christmas and no NBA games in action but it seems more like a "non-story" than a real story. If they got into an all out brawl like the Mississippi St. players, then it's a story. I know you're "National media status" requires you to "get the story" but is this really a story or bathroom gossip? ESPN's version of the story seems to piggyback off of yours so I'm guessing they're going off your accounts.

Buddies often have "disagreements" especially when there's alcohol involved and one has had too much to drink. Maybe McGee hasn't ever been out with AB but has heard he's the "life of the party"! Who wouldn't want to hang out with him to see how he "turn's out a party" until you learn that he's an idiot when he consumes liquor? McGee's "boy" comes back to tell him to check his man because he's out of control and "drunk boy" goes off on him! Wow, where have we heard this story before except the police and guns aren't involved!

Signed,
J McGee's boy!

I guess it's not surprising that some folks around here have decided to blame team management for an incident that had zero to do with them.

After all, didn't some blame the Wiz for not having prevented Gilbert and Javaris from sneaking guns into the locker room?

At heart, a fan's a fanatic, after all. Let's quote Santayana: "Fanaticism consists in redoubling your effort when you have forgotten your aim."

"But let a black kid open his mouth and misplace a preposition or use an incorrect tense..."

"...never have never understood why posters feel compelled to comment on an athlete's grammar. They're paid because of their athletic talent."

I think there was a change in newspaper policy a couple seasons back. Noticed it first when direct quotes from Clinton Portis began showing up in Redskins reports -- if you've never heard Clinton in person, well, he can sound like he flunked third grade -- and the issue came up on the Skins' equivalent of WI. Apparently unbeknownst to readers, the print media had been sanitizing grammar for years. Once told to stop, they were confronted with the problem of quoting players who could be almost unintelligible. It was a big change.

I'm not sure what led to the shift in policy. But it's hard not to notice that some of our heroes sound really dumb. I know a few take remedial speech classes so as not to embarrass their agents. There's a difference between sounding dumb and being dumb, but as to which side our heroes are on, it's difficult to tell.

Marcus Camby, 3rd
Ray Allen, 5th
Erick Dampier, 10th
Kobe Bryant, 13th
Steve Nash, 15th
Jermaine O'Neal, 17th
Zydrunas Ilgauskas, 20th

I think we are being too hard on Dray because I called this before the season. I said that he would be a monster and the whole league will be talking about how there were a ton of big name free agent PF's who got big contracts but the best one may be Blatche who makes by far the least.

Then he got hurt and I said that people arent talking about that injury enough as he now instead of being a top PF, will end up being someone who's not even better then he was at the end of last season. I said he wont be nearly as good as late last season until midseason at best & probably the end of the year, if at all. I said no matter what, he has no chance of being a stud like he coudlve been.

All of that wouldve been with no new injuries but on top of that he's been pretty much hurt all season so he has never gotten out the blocks. Im telling you that if he has no injuries this offseason then he will look way better next year. Way better. I just dont think people understand how hard it is to come back from stuff like that, and its near impossible when you keep getting hurt in the process. With that being said, he could be doing somethings different and playing smarter. However, he's just going to be way slower & way less athletic then the guys who have been working out non stop for the past 6 months

McGee. Blatche. My acid re-flux is erupting.

These two losers shouldn't even be in the NBA to begin with. They make Kwame Brown look like an All-Star. The idea they were "fighting" is encouraging given that in actual NBA games they avoid contact like a disease. We already knew they couldn't play and now, thanks to the text messages, we know they are semi-literate.

Look: get rid of the whole sad Grund-find roster, i.e., McGee, Blatche, Nick Young, and the rest, and replace them with some of the best of the D-League players (they are actually pretty good) sprinkled with a few generic pass, dribble, shoot, and rebound-type international players, and, with a coach who doesn't look like he's going to sleep, you WILL make the playoffs.

... and for goodness sake, start calling them the Bullets again.

Say what you want but we'd be silly to trade McGee. Very athletic but still a "work in progress". At this stage, he shows more promise that AB at the same stage. I think we see the best were gonna get out of AB, McGee has potential if he works with a bigs coach. Don't know if AB would be better if were drafted by another team but sometimes wish he would. Had perfect chance to show maturity after the "little 3" (CB,BH,& AJ)were traded but we saw no signs at all.

Still not sure why the Wizards and Skins get so much attention despite being losing franchises....must be the most overhyped losing teams of all time. I blame the Post for another exaggerated story. Two observations:
1. The altercation at the Shadow Room has been blown out of proportion.

2. No one is control of this team.

Most teams experience clubhouse fights, locker room incidents, hotel incidents, or nightclub/party brawls. We're talking about young men with too much money and easy access to women [Plaxico Burress, Ben Roethlisberger, Kobe Bryant, etc.]

The successful teams deal with the participants firmly [fines or suspensions] and get back on track.

The Wizards don't have leadership on the court, on the coaching staff, nor in the front office. Is John Wall going to address Blatche or McGee? Flip Saunders is probably waiting on instruction from Grunfeld. And Ted "We are not going to trade Gilbert" Leonsis is sitting back wondering which of his sports franchises will lose the most games this season.

Merry Christmas, anyway!

All

I was at the wizs naand bulls game the other night and as a fan I was pissed. The bulls were missing (Noah) who is one of the leagues leaders in rebounds and block shots, but the wiz never took it to the basket. I truly thik that the problem with the wiz players is that they have very low basketball IQ's. We praise Nick Young for having a great year, but the truth is, He's finally doing what the coaches asked. He's playing like RIP and Reggie Miller used to play. When I looked at AB, I see a guy thats 6'11 that can't jump or play any defense and is dumb as hell. I look at JM and I see a talent that needs a power forward that can rebound and shoots very little. I would say a taller version of trevor booker. We also need to pass some blame to Kirk H. as well. He was supposed to provide leadership and be a solid PG, but has had problems with turnovers and over dribbling.

Our recollection is Mike Wise and Mike Wilbon once wrote separate Post columns about the same comments by a local player, maybe Portis. Wise quoted the comments in their original ebonics, but Wilbon provided grammatically corrected quotes (as sportswriters have done since Grantland Rice). Wilbon took heat -- unfairly, we think -- for correcting the athlete's comments and thereafter the Post adopted this new policy. We liked the old (Wilbon) policy better.

I'm sure bouncers love it when they have to go up against huge professional athletes. They're used to tangling w/ scrawny, drunk 170 pound college and 20-something d-bags. The equation changes a bit when you have to get rough w/ a group of 270 pound 6 foot 8 and up testosterone and alcohol fueled athletes who get paid because of their physical prowess.

I was at the University of Maryland years ago and there were a couple of defensive linemen who would show up at the Vous and look for fights. They'd get drunk and start throwing the bouncers around like they were rag dolls.

So it's not the job of the GM to seek and scout players of great character? Is it not his job to seek winners with great work ethic? He just gave this guy a lucrative and long extension although his character and professionalism had been constantly questioned? And should we mention that he had all the leverage in the world as Blatche had a short term relatively inexpensive contract? Should we mention that the contract was given knowing that Blatche has never and has yet to contribute meaningfully in games that actually matter?
And with the recently tendered extension and the poor character, is this yet another situation where EG will be seeking a trade from a position of weakness?
But no, the GM has nothing to do with this and anyone blaming him is delusional. After all, he wasn't driving the car that took them to the club...

2- Finger pointing starts at the top. Eventually you become a P.O.M.E (Product of my environment)thus, no leadership!

3- An entourage is usually a group of "your boys" that you decide to put on a payroll to watch your back and chances are that they're the same age but we really don't know who his entourage consist of but, that altercation should give you some idea!

Don't be silly. Nobody's getting traded; far as we know, no charges have been filed. No reason to release either player. But there's also no reason to make excuses for them, or to use the incident as an excuse to indict team management. Unless, of course, indicting team management is your real agenda... then you'll use any excuse.

So your reasoning is that if back in 2009, Club Shadow had allowed in more Asians and minority lawyers, these two pro basketball players would not have gotten into an altercation on the sidewalk?

Now that's what I call thinkin'.

I hate to break the news to ya, but both Andray and Javale are men. They may not like the fact, but there it is. Check the law in your state.

"2- Finger pointing starts at the top. Eventually you become a P.O.M.E (Product of my environment)thus, no leadership!"

You're pointing fingers at everybody BUT the two players who were there. You won't allow them to take responsibility for their own conduct. That's enabling in my book.

"3- An entourage is usually a group of "your boys" that you decide to put on a payroll to watch your back and chances are that they're the same age but we really don't know who his entourage consist of but, that altercation should give you some idea!"

If you travel with an entourage, you're responsible for them, aren't you? After all, you were physically there -- unlike Ernie Grunfeld.

I hope your comments don't reflect badly on the failures of our public education system...

Here you go: the team says it never happened. Or they were misquoted, something like that.

"The Washington Wizards dispute a Washington Post report that teammates Andray Blatche and JaVale McGee were involved in a dispute outside a nightclub early Friday morning."

"The team looked into the matter earlier today and determined it was simply a disagreement between teammates," a team spokesman told the paper."

"Blatche sent text messages to the Post saying he and McGee had no problems."

"Only one push cause we was tryin to leave and it was fights around us. Why would we fight we are team mates," Blatche wrote in his texts."

"Andray Blatche, JaVale McGee reportedly get into altercation
" - Michael Lee

What seems like a lifetime ago I was a reporter for a fairly large newspaper. I can just imagine the reaction that I would have gotten from my editor if I presented him with a story wthat I said was based upon something that "reportedly" happened. He would he told me that it was my job to REPORT facts, not write about someone else's allegations.

Michael Lee should have made certain of the facts before running the story. However, I'm not surprised; he is more of a sports gossip columnist than a sports reporter. I've heard from several people who WERE there, and it did not happen like Lee printed it. In fact, according to people intimate with the situation, Blatche and McGee were laughing about it just minutes later...and Blatche tweeted Lee to tell him so.

I want to chime in on the discussion regarding Michael Lee's articles that "quote" players using improper grammar. It doesn't matter what color, race, gender, or creed the speaker might be, when people are talking, especially if they are excited, they don't always pay attention to tense, number, or gender of the words. It is appropriate and fair for a reporter to paraphrase what was spoken rather than attempting to use direct quotes in an effort to make the speaker appear ignorant and foolish. We still get the message.

It is easier to use correct grammar when writing because you can make corrections before making the writing public. However, I wish that I had a nickel for every grammatical error that I have encountered in Michael Lee's writing. I have previously asked if there are editors reviewing Lee's writing; and, if so, they should be fired.

Well, I see a couple problems with this argument. First, I wonder if the Post editors didn't decide to stop sanitizing grammar in quote -- if so, it may well be because they were being accused of misquoting. Second, it's not the reporter who makes the speaker appear ignorant and foolish --it's the speaker, isn't it?

Nonetheless, I don't know many posters here who could criticize anybody else's grammatical skills, however. Much of the language on this board would draw criticism from a fifth grader.

I think the beat reporters used to hide this stuff, so as not to embarrass the team or the players (who were busy embarrassing themselves). Maybe that's what's changed. Now in the era of cell phone cameras, we have to figure it'll show up on YouTube anyway, so might as well report it.

I was not being critical of any bloggers. I was being critical of Michael Lee; someone who makes a good living by writing. One would think that criteria for getting that job would include having a superior command of the language in which he is writing.

I still believe that Mr. Lee goes out of his way to make certain players look worse than they are. Was he quoting what he thought that he heard or was he quoting from a text message which would be short and lacking in any semblence of grammar? If he wasn't quoting something that the individual had an opportunity to confirm, (tweets, text messages don't count) then paraphrasing is the more professional thing to do.

@Samson151 - You're probably right "...Now in the era of cell phone cameras, we have to figure it'll show up on YouTube anyway,...". However, I believe that Mr. Lee doesn't have to, and shouldn't, stoop to the level of YouTube. After all, he writes for one of the pre-eminent newspapers in the world. He should write like a professional reporter, not an internet hack.

Stop calling ab dumb. He is a very intelligent and creative passer when he chooses to be. He is soft, at times a ball stopper, lazy and very shy of contact, but I think his basketball iq is high. He just needs frequent kicks in the butt and a much better work ethic. Perhaps Magic Johnson can address the team weekly. Merry Christmas Bullets Nation.

I think we have to remember the difference between two conditions: not being an adult, versus being an adult and wanting to act like you were still a kid. These two professional athletes are more likely in the second category than the first.

You mean, depending on what his editor instructed him to do. If the editor told him to quote directly, without modification, then that would be the 'professional' thing to do. And that would apply to texts and tweets as well as verbal communication.

The issue is usually the quality of the source. Mike attributes to 'multiple league sources'. The language suggests they're not in the media, not associated with the Wiz, but are directly tied to the NBA. And there's more than one of them.

Posted by: LeBullet | December 25, 2010 4:45 PM | Report abuse

As far as the cell phone camera epidemic: it's basically changed the way the media reports incidents of many types. Reporters can no longer be assured of being first with the film. Joe Citizen probably beat them to it. There could be 45,000 hits on YouTube before the incident gets mentioned in the Post. Sure, it results in a rush to judgement in some cases. But read this blog sometimes -- isn't that exactly what readers are demanding? Check the howls around here if Lee gets beat by Yahoo or Fox, let alone a mutt with a cell phone.

It's a new world, and nobody's entirely comfortable with it. We'll see what the real story is as it emerges over the next day or two.

I think the fact is that if Arenas were to start for Orlando, he'd have the worst field goal percentage of any starting shooting guard in the league or if he started at point guard for them, he'd have the worst assist-to-turnover ratio of any starting point guard. Hardly the stuff of a top guard.

To be fair? Are you kidding? Arenas is lucky to have a job in the NBA, given the way he's playing. It's hard to believe how quickly he's become a has-been. Today he shot 22% from the field and had 2 assists against two turnovers (and I checked: he's shooting 38% from the field on the season). If his feet got any heavier, he'd stomp a whole right through the court. People talking about him starting on a solid playoff contender are delusional...but at least he's proud to play basketball for the first time since his knee injury.

This has been the worst three year's in the history of this franchise (since the firing of Eddie Jordan) Grunfeld undermined EJ's authority when he was the head coach. He hired an incompetent to replace Jordan (Eddie Tapscott) and then compounded that mistake twofold when he replaced Tapscott with Flip Saunders and made Tapscott the head of the scouting department. The Washington Wizard's have not recovered from the stupidity that is Ernie Grunfeld think about it; the roster is a joke sans Wall (who stays hurt) Josh Howard (just returning from a serious knee injury) and Rashard Lewis, who is on the downside of his career. This so called GM jettisoned four more then competent NBA player's(two of them all stars) off this roster (Jamison,Butler,Haywood,& Stevenson) last year in an effort to "clean house" and now what? that made the trade for Gilbert Arenas inevitable, i mean why would Gil want to stay here with this roster and a coach who even with this lousy bunch is in way over his head. The recent revelation of an altercation outside a DC nightstop is not surprising, here we have two D-league candidates (Blatche&McGee) masquerading as NBA players on a nightly basis, fighting. The fact that the so called GM gave Blatche( who has shown absolutely nothing) a contract extension is ground's for the immediate removal of Grunfeld as GM. This is why this franchise is stuck in reverse and will continue to be as long as Flip Saunders and Ernie Grunfeld continue their incompetence.

Mike Lee isn't a paid image consultant for the Wizards. His job is to gather information and report that information accurately, that includes accurately quoting what interview subjects say. Anyone who's shocked or discomforted by the revelation that pro athletes don't always use perfect grammar might want to think about talking to their doctor about a Prozac prescription, because they're clearly prone to worry too much about stuff that ain't worth worryin' 'bout.
